High Capacity Pistol Magazines In Ca

What pistol has the highest capacity magazine?

police for the most part have the same access to equipment as everyone else.

Police can get 30 round magazines, but they stick a foot out the bottom of the gun, just like anyone else with a 30 round magazine

Para-0rdinance P14 is a 45 single action with a 13 round mag +1 in the pipe, being the original high capactiy 45, recently matched by the Glock 21 (originally 12 rounds, now 13 rounds in the mag after a redesign) and Springfield XD also making a version with a 13 shot mag.

The FN Five-seveN (yes, capitol N on the end) has a flush sitting 20 round magazine, but then it fires the anemic 5.7mm cartridge, good for busting body armor, bad for actually finishing the job after it gets through

Of course all of this is moot if you get a double drum for your glock 18 full auto capable handgun

But those are for Civilians Only, we don't trust cops with toys like that

Is it good that in California we can now buy high capacity magazines?

First, of course what comes standard with the gun is called a standard capacity magazine. That could be 13, 15, 17, 19, 20, 30 for a few examples. But of course its good that in California can now buy standard capacity magazines. I believe can now buy things that are actually high capacity such as 100 round drums. Criminals could care less about the law and would get whatever size magazine they wanted, it only meant that the criminal would be carrying more rounds then the law abiding citizen. Hopefully California shall get rid of more of its gun control and become a shall issue state so it enjoys the violent crime decrease of all the other states. If you look at the FBI numbers at Table 4 you shall notice two things with one being California has more crime then the national average and the second that District of Columbia is the worst as far as all violent crime and homicides. Now District of Columbia became shall issue on October 6, 2017 and has been seeing a decrease ever since. Meanwhile California enjoys violent crime over the national average that increases many years Table 4. If you look at the FBI list by counties California the ones that are less gun friendly and don't issue permits are the worst. But hopefully lifting the magazine size limit which shall hopefully never get appealed is a good first step to getting California to see the decrease the rest of the country is seeing which is generally seen in the more gun friendly states that are either shall issue or constitutional carry. Now some people think it makes some difference in the size of the magazine a mass shooter uses. This Sheriffs demo should show you how wrong that is, its a 14 minute video but very informative for people that think magazine size makes any difference to a mass shooter.

Are there any high capacity .22 pistol magazines (like 20-30 shot)? Are they legal?

Others have good answers but I’d just like to add in CA .22 rimfire is one of a number of guns not covered by the 10 round magazine restrictions. Those are all lever action rifles with tube magazines of any cartridge and any .22 rifle with tube magazine any action is fine. Now the law I read just said .22 caliber but I’m pretty sure they mean .22 long rifle some grow I doubt you could load a .223 with round nose bullets and call it a day. So a nylon 66 with a 14 shot magazine is perfectly legal to buy and sell despite being semi automatic and having more than 10 rounds in fact you could even mount a pistol grip since the “assault weapon” ban only applies to centerfire cartridge guns. I’m just waiting for a gun company to reintroduce a larger bore rimfire cartridge just so that you can have all those scary features in a legitimate bore. But as far as I know any pistol even one with a tube magazine would be illegal to hold more than 10 in CA.Take care-Daniel

My Glock 19 9mm magazine 10 round capacity?

I bought my 9mm Glock 19 new about 4 years ago in 2005ish and it came with 2 10 round factory magazines.

Anyway lately I was on Glock's website and was reading the G19 specs and it says it holds 15 rounds, also I saw a couple YouTube videos reviewing the G19 and heard them mention it holds 15 rounds and weren't using hi cap mags that extended below the grip.

Do I just have an older Glock 19 that didnt have the 15 round magazine capacity yet or what? Thanks

Why can't people have a 30 round high capacity magazine in California by themselves?

First off 30 round magazines are not high capacity. Its the standard magazine for an AR-15 and many others. Just like many handguns have a standard magazine capacity between 13–19. What a gun is made for is a standard magazine for that gun not a high capacity magazine. People that know nothing about guns think a magazine size makes any difference as far as a mas shooting. Here is a Sheriff demo on how little magazine capacity matters. Now California decided that reduced magazine capacity is 10, other states have reduced magazines to 15 or 20.Now California like many other states has the goal of no guns for law abiding citizens. Now I dont agree with Feinsein at all but at least she is honest about that fact. Meanwhile California enjoys violent crime over the national average according to the FBI Table 4 that goes up many years Table 4.

When did California ban high capacity magazines? Is it illegal to own them?

The Republic of Kalifornia has banned standard-sized magazines in favor of reduced capacity magazines in order to pander to the ignorant anti-gun crowd who fear particular weapons based on their appearance. Think about it... I could easily kill you with an 18th Century muzzleloading musket. If I have a modern semi-auto rifle, does it really make any difference if my gun has 30 rounds in it or 10? Ever heard of carrying more than one mag? Oh, I get it, you are going to tackle me when I start reloading in the middle of my massacre, because you are a big hero. The only thing that a reduced capacity magazine law accomplishes is to force citizens to reload more often, and to force manufacturers to produce an unpopular product they will have difficulty selling in the rest of the country without similar laws in place. It is a major and cynical first step in the erosion of our most basic constitutional rights, which will likely have no positive effect and may well make criminals out of millions of otherwise law abiding citizens.

Is it now legal to buy high capacity magazines in California, or only standard capacity?

“Standard capacity” magazines are what has been cut off in California for so long, in favour of the neutered 10-round jobs.Standard capacity for a Glock 17 is 17+1. Standard for a G19 is 15+1. Standard for an H&K Mk23 is 12+1. Standard for a Beretta 92F is 17+1 (I think, may be 15+1.) You get the idea. The standard, OEM magazine that comes with many pistols holds more than 10 rounds (those 33-round stick mags you see that fit the G17 and G19? OEM for the Glock Model 18.)And rifles? There’s no such thing as a STANAG 10-round magazine, it’s just not bothered with in issue circles. There’s a STANAG 20-round and a STANAG 30-round, both are issued, but a 10-round? You go to a military armourer or a military quartermaster and ask him for a 10-round magazine, he’ll look at you like you ordered a lightly grilled weasel on a bun. Then he’ll probably chase you up a tree and set fire to it, for asking such a stupid question. The AR-10 uses, I believe, M1A magazines, which are themselves M14 magazines - again, 20- or 30-round boxen, same results on asking for a 10-round box (weasel, tree, fire, &c.)Now, if you want a genuine “high capacity” magazine, SureFire is now making a STANAG-compatible 60-round quad-column box mag for M16/M4, that’s pretty high-cap…

How does the california high capacity magazine ban actually work?

Effective January 1, 2000, SB 23 generally prohibits, the manufacture, import, sale, giving or lending of large capacity magazines (defined as any ammunition feeding device with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds, but does not include .22 caliber tube ammunition feeding devices

The magazines that were owned by an individual prior to this date are legal for that individual to own. I own many such magazines that I had before that date.

None of the magazines that I own are stamped with a date. Kalifornia does not have a provision for stamping them, there has never been such a provision. Kalifornia does not have magazine registration.

Many people go to the Reno gun shown and buy magazines. The CA DOJ has busted people who buy large quantities by following them to their cars and following them back into the state.

Most magazines are not identifiable as to their date of manufacture. The exceptions are magazines for firearms that were not made before that date (e.g. Springfield XD-M), Magazine models that were not made before that date (e.g. Magpul P-mag), or serial numbered magazines, such as a Beta C-Mag.

Pistols that are sold in the free world with a standard capacity magazine are sold in Kalifornia with a reduced-capacity ten-round magazine. These typically have an extended plastic base on the bottom of a steel magazine.

At gun shows in Kalifornia it is possible to buy "magazine repair kits" for 30 round AR magazines that include all parts. It is also possible to buy magazines that have been "permanently modified" to 10 round capacity with blocks that are pop-riveted in place and the base plate pop-riveted in place.

How is changing a magazine, to one of a larger capacity, modifying the pistol? Maybe I missed something, or is a magazine swap a modification in California?

California mandates “low capacity magazines” for those who aren’t either in the movie property business or wear a badge. So…A Glock 21, as it is said the “perp” used, normally has a 13 shot magazine. There are special, “low capacity magazines” made for areas those aren’t allowed, in this case, lowered to “10 shots”.It isn’t specified how many rounds the shooter had available. It may have been a “standard capacity magazine”, thus upping his round count by 3, or it might be an honest to Gawd “high capacity magazine” that was made to hold more than 13 shots. The Kriss Vector family if firearms uses the Glock pattern of magazines but there are extended capacity modifications over 13 shots available.More information is needed for specificity, but that’s all we’re being given.
