Homeschooling In Nc Questions Help

Do you get paid for homeschooling your kids?

You do. You receive a payment in joy and a deeper connection with your family. You watch with pride as your child concurs obstacles and challenges. You watch them grow and learn and all the while you are rewarded with the knowledge that you have been instrumental in helping your child to prepare for adulthood. These things are priceless.  As for mere money? You will put out a whole lot more than you bring in but it is worth every penny you invest in your child’s future.I did however teach at a homeschool co-op and received a small amount for each student.

Can i start homeschooling tomorrow?

I live in the state of North Carolina and I've been thoroughly researching laws on homeschooling in this state. I understand you have to send a Notice of Intent to DNPE, 30 days ahead of time to be on their curriculum. My first question is:
1. Is DNPE an online based curriculum and you attend classes on the website? Or is it a group all over in NC, and they only set the requirements for all home-schools?
My second question is, I've never home-schooled before, but i've been thinking about it for years.
2. And what are the motions? How does daily life work? And if I were to not go through an online source, is it possible to use resources from the library, such as history books and the like in order to learn - write papers, do presentations, and such from those? Or MUST I use textbooks?
3. My mom - being the only one that's home all day - would be the one grading my things and putting them on a transcript?
4. Now, the information at the top, I'm speaking about this in regards to a quick answer, which may not come. However, that being said, Is it possible for me to start homeschooling tomorrow, through the local library books, and not attend school - withdraw is the correct term. Keep in mind, I have just moved to NC about a week and a half ago, so I have no grades in the system here yet.
i know most of you are going to say "Just give the new school a chance" But I can't concentrate on my school work with all the stress from moving so much, so is it possible to start homeschooling immediately?

My parents say this school is better for me because it's a newer school. However, the newer the school does not mean the better it is. The teachers are new to teaching and do not know what they're doing most of the time. But the thing is, I know what is best for me, and they don't seem to understand that I need to just take time off from moving around - which my family does a lot - and take a breather and study at my own pace, not what the "Better school" seems to think.

Please, I'd prefer to have websites with things to show my parents how this can work. I really am a trustworthy person and I am an all A's student. In my entire education career, I've only recieved three-four B's. I'm 16, if that affects any answers. Please, help me!

Why do people still hate homeschooling?

I work in a school system and we often have people bring their child to enroll after they've homeschooled for a while. The issues I see most are the following:The parent is not qualified to homeschool. This is acerbated in many states because homeschooling is not regulated. There is no regulated curriculum, no place where the parent is held accountable for the child's progress.The lack of socialization is often problematic as well. These kids falter when introduced to the rough and tumble of normal interactions, whether it is in school or when they enter the work force. A lot of what you learn at school is not found in books. Learning to defend yourself against bullying is something you need to know for all aspects of life.Their knowledge tends to be fragmented. They may know a great deal about one subject, but have absolutely no idea in another. Generally speaking, I find them very lacking in maths and sciences, because those subjects require resources parents don't always have.Finally, in my state, most homeschooling is done for religious reasons, and people who come out of that background are often extremely rigid and judgmental, which, again, doesn't translate well in social or work situations.Now, all that said, there are also parents who have done an outstanding job of homeschooling their children, have given them the socialization necessary, and have prepared them for the skills needed in the workforce. In my particular part of the world, though, they're pretty much outnumbered by the others.

Homeschooling in North Carolina?

North Carolina isn't the easiest state to homeschool in, but it's doable.

Requirements http://www.ncdnpe.org/hhh103.aspx

Parents/guardians residing in North Carolina and desiring, in lieu of conventional school attendance, to home school their children who are at least age 7 but not yet age 16 must:

Hold at least a high school diploma or its equivalent;
Send to DNPE a Notice of Intent to Operate a Home School. The notice must include the name and address of the school along with the name of the school's owner and chief administrator;
Elect to operate under either Part 1 or Part 2 of Article 39 of the North Carolina General Statutes as a religious or as a non-religious school;
Operate the school "on a regular schedule, excluding reasonable holidays and vacations, during at least nine calendar months of the year";
Maintain at the school disease immunization and annual attendance records for each student;
Have a nationally standardized achievement test administered annually to each student. The test must involve the subject areas of English grammar, reading, spelling, and mathematics. Records of the test results must be retained at the home school for at least one year and made available to DNPE when requested. Also, see testing FAQS;
Notify DNPE when the school is no longer in operation.

Homeschooled.... And looking for weed?

Hi.
My name is Savannah . And I am 14 years of age .
I live in Raleigh,NC .
Suburbs....

So there is quite a few people who do smoke .
But recently I was pulled out of school, because my mom wanted to try homeschooling.
Okay so ...

I have smoked before. I smoked when I went to my best friends, she would always hve a stash. Never occurred to me to ask where she got it .

But she has moved.
And I don't know where to get any .
That was my ONLY friend , and I don't have any opportunities to make other friends , and ****. Okay , so , I'm an honor student. I'm not ADDICTED, to where I sorta get sick or anything. Lol , but I do like smoking . It just lets the stress off . And I don't do it often . Like once every other month or so .

So don't say
Any crap about how this is bad , or how it melts braincells , cause obviously I DO NOT CARE . I know , and I just wanna do it a few times .

So where do I get weed .
Oh and I don't have a lot of money either , lol
So nothing toooo expensive , and I definitely can't have anything shipped , because I am not getting caught by my parents , they would get the cops involved and all my education and stuff would be ruined .
And believe it or not ,
I DO CARE ABOUT MY EDUCATION , and MY FUTURE .
I also care about some weed .
It takes off emotional stress .
Kay
Thanks
Bye .

This is serious . Btw .
No mean answers , or snotty answers or anything. Please .

I am considering homeschooling my 3 children which one of them has IEP and have no idea where to start?

I reside in NC and we are in a military family.
My oldest will be in the 11th grade and has a IEP and is developmentally handicapped
then I have a 9th grader and a 5th grader
Any advice suggestions would be helpful and how do I do this with kids that are different grades?

Can my mom homeschool me?

Yes, your mom can homeschool you and she does not need a college degree, especially if it's elementary or middle school grades. Have you asked her about it? Just type in homeschool and the city you live in and you will get lots of info.
Also, it sounds very much like you should go see a therapist. Trust me, a good one can help you understand why you are feeling the way you do and then help you overcome it. It may be what is called Social Anxiety Disorder. They often give medication for that, but I am adamantly against throwing drugs at a problem. It is only a stop gap-not a solution! Please talk to your parents or another adult who could act as an advocate for you--aunt, grandparent, school counselor--and get the help you need. Wouldn't it feel so much better to get over this than spend your life hiding from it? I personally know people who have overcome this and worse!

Good luck to you, dear!

What are the homeschool graduation requirements?

These are the subjects that you are required to teach in a homeschool in Texas. --
◦Good citizenship
◦Math
◦Reading
◦Spelling
◦Grammar

But for high school, you would want to add to that. You need to learn the basic things that you would learn if you were in a regular public school. (For example, biology and algebra, etc.) Here is a link about homeschooling high school that should be helpful. -

Make sure when you plan out your classes that you are following a "college prep" diploma plan.

Where do you hire teachers for your homeschooling children?

Thanks for the A2A.As others have said, most people do not.However, I have known of two cases - one a divorced father, one a family where the Mom had cancer - where families were seeking to hire a fill-in homeschool teacher.One spread the word through friends at church. The other spread the word via a homeschool co-op. Ads in homeschool publications, on websites frequented by homeschoolers, or even in a local paper are other options.But in general, there is not much precedent. Part of the core of what homeschooling is involves parents teaching their children. Thus hired teachers are very rare.
