Homeschooling In Perth

Public high schools perth near the city or in the city?

I know his is a stupid question but I would prefer one that didn't care about school shoes aslong as there black because my old one gave me detention all the time for wearing black vans! First best answer the names a school or schools gets best answer.

Do you think in Australia private school kids become more successful than public schooled kids?

I am a first generation graduate and PhD and I went to a lousy public highschool. It was about 20y after I got my STEM PhD that I realised that the elite would never accept me, no matter how well I behaved. They never have.Never lift a finger to help anyone from a private school background. It is pointless. I witnessed 3rd year science students at Sydney Uni teased by their classmates because they went to a public school. I have a false Ox/Bridge accent I picked up from my PhD supervisor: they did not guess where I came from.I work as an Assoc Prof in Thailand.

I was camping around Australia and something was wrong with the camp fridge, so we took it to a camping place and they fixed it and refused to take any money. Is this just the nature of Australians?

Yup, we are wonderful…Seriously, I have seen many a time a situation where I needed something small done, and the person has refused payment - I just pay it forward.Mind you, I have seen similar in the USA - I lived there for a while, and a friend told of the hat that he bought from L.L. Bean up in Maine. A lot of their clothing lines, tend to go on forever. He had a hat - he gardened with it on (he was bald as…) he went fishing with it, and it had fallen in the bilges more than once. He decided after 20 years, that it was due to be retired, but he loved the look and the fit, so he walked into LL Bean, went to the service counter and started to say “I bought this hat from you a while back…” to which the sales person interjected - “And it hasn’t stood up to wear and tear very well, has it - let me get you a replacement” - He insisted he wanted to buy a replacement - they would have none of that and insisted on giving him one…

About the Stolen Generation....Australian Aboriginals?

As you can see by some of the answers you've received so far, racial bigotry is alive and well and living here on YA. As a member of another type of "stolen generation" I was adopted during the baby snatch era of the 60's and 70's........I totally disagree with those idiots Bingalee and Mulga, I would hate to think that their opinions are taken as a general view held by Australians, its not. There never was, and never will be, any justification for stealing children from the parents who gave birth to them. No, I wasn't taught about the stolen generation in school, Im in my 40's, it was all brushed under the carpet. What I know about the subject I have learned by research and in homeschooling my teenage daughter. That anyone could be of the opinion that child stealing is ok amazes me, the colour of your skin or cultural heritage has nothing to do with your ability to love and raise your children. Just because their lifestyle was different to the white way of doing things didnt make them wrong and the crimes committed against the stolen generation, or for that matter those of us affected by the baby snatch era, where young single women were considered to be mentally and morally deficient if they became pregnant, can NEVER be adequately compensated for.
Edit: Just wanted to add that alcohol would not have been an issue for the Aboriginal people if us bloody arrogant white people hadnt introduced it to them in the first place!!

Why do americans always ask dumb questions about australia?

The educational system in the United States is in horrible shape.
Basic geography is not taught here. We continue to give more money to the educational system and the results have been dreadful.
I have seen educational materials from one hundred years ago and they were far more advanced . More was expected. My grandparents had only a grade school education but grade school is about equivalent to what highschool is now. Students on the slow track don't have to take electives like geography or world history. They let you graduate with general mathematic skill level.
It is ridiculous.
Yes, we have been an egocentric country but even with this , the real problem is with a major need for educational restructuring. When George Bush was in , he tried to raise the standards and give more money to schools who performed well. This was overturned by the new adminstration. We go one step forward and one back. I didn't vote for George Bush but it was the one thing he did that I felt might have been helpful .
If you have a poor family environment, it is true your parents might be on crack or drunk and they are certainly not going to check your homework. The problem is that better teachers often do not want to teach in these districts for safety concerns. In spite of all the ripping on home teadching, these students do better scholastically in most cases. This is without the five thousand per student budget that we paid from our city taxes. If you kid can read and knows where Australia is , thank a homeschooling Mom. My kid went to Australia and New Zealand for three weeks when she was fifteen . It was her choice. She knows something about the country.
Sorry , for the stupid.

How long would it take for a Roman legion to cross Australia?

From Brisbane to Perth is about 4,000 km. At a reasonable marching-rate of around 30 km per day we are looking at about a fortnight. But that is not allowing time for pitching camp, warding off hostile wallabies or gathering supplies from billabongs on the way. Caesar’s amazing march in late winter 48 BC from Brundisium on the ‘heel’ of Italy to Ilerda in Spain, a little over 2,000 km, took 27 days, but that included crossing the Pyrenees.LGHH
