Usually there are two kinds of scrapes - the wide flat ones and then the sharp pointy ones like a rock. I trust you did not have a pointy rock but a broad area where the elevation changed due to going over a curb or speed bump.When you hit a broad elevation change, you usually scrape the bottom of the bumper air dam area if there’s a dip.If there’s a rise you hit the center of your car as you said, middle section.A broad bump usually precludes hitting any suspension parts and usually the motor centered over the front wheels because the wheels lift that part up.When you hit the center going over a rise (if the rise is too large you “high center” the car leaving it teetering. Key crushable or bendable parts such as brake lines, fuel lines and drive shafts (if rear wheel drive or AWD) will probably be up above the bottom of the frame and you will just have scraped the iron frame with no damage.Worst damage is caused by pointy objects which stick way up and between the wheels so the car does not get any lift. In that case, the oil pan or transmission or cooling parts can get damaged. But this does not sound like it happened to you as evidenced by lack of overheating or oil pressure indicators soon after.ANd 3 mph would be insufficient to do much damage anyway as the car body would not have deflected greatly.

There is no lack of butcher shops and you need to do your homework before you spend your money.If you went through your insurance, the way I would go about it is you call your company and ask “at what amount paid (by your insurance company) does it count as a claim against you?” Most companies have a $1,500 threshold, anything above that and it counts as an incident and could raise your insurance rates. Make sure you get an estimate from her repair shop and if possible one of your choosing. Then you provide that picture with the estimates to your company so it will keep the shop honest and not take a hammer to the quarter panel to increase the repair cost.You can’t blame her if she wants the car repaired back to perfect condition because when it’s time to return it if it’s a lease or resell it or trade it in, a poor repair will certainly be noticed and will lower the vehicle’s value and if it’s a lease return, she will get a charge to re-repair it the right way.I hope this long answer helped.
