well actually there is no mention about this in valmiki ramayan or tulsidas’' ramayan .however acc. to sangam literature urmila wanted to accompany but lakshman told her to stay back to serve her in laws. he also said that if she accompany him he would not be able to give protection to his brother and bhabhi.but a conflict is seen here too. acc. to another legend lakshaman was trying very hard to restrain himself from falling asleep on first night in order to protect ram and sita .just then devi nidra(goddess of sleep) arrived there .lakshaman requested her to leave him alone for 14 years so that he can perform his duty .but acc. to law of nature someone has to sleep his share so he requested her to go to urmila .so she slept for 14 years day and night while laksham continued to stay awake. legend also holds that he was able to kill meghnad due to this only because meghnad could be killed by a human who has not slept for years. also it is said that at time of coro nation ceremony of ram lakshaman suddenly barked a laugh .everyone was surprised and then lakshman said that he had waited for 14 years to see this coronation but he wont be able to see this as goddess nidra has come back and now he have to surrender to sleep .so he returns to his chambers to sleep and it is finaly urmila who see this coronation after 14 years of sleep . hope you have found your answer!!!!

An 80s movie which hardly gets mentioned (I've never heard anyone else mention it till now).This movie stars Archana Puran Singh and Hemant Birje, it was one of my favourite movies as a youngster.
