Horrible Final Grade For The Semester In An Elective Anyway To Get That Off My Transcript

Does an “F” grade stay on a transcript forever?

If you have a transcript after graduating college and if you got a poor grade in one of your classes such as an “F” and if you don’t repeat your class that you failed, does an “F” stay on your transcript forever? If it does, it is pretty bad and makes you look bad like you are a loser in life, especially if you go to a job interview and your employer requests your college transcript! How do you get an “F” or a poor grade off your transcript if it is impossible to repeat a class?

Horrible College Transcript?

Basically, I took some college courses while in high school and made a couple of C's. I didn't understand the whole "COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS ARE YOUR LIFE!!!" concept yet, so I didn't think too badly of these C's. Well, it's my third year of college, and I have six C's on my transcript (as well as 2 D's).

To be honest, I feel completely miserable. I try to reassure myself by saying that I can re-take these courses, but that's so much money, and I feel guilty "wasting" it on my feeble second attempts.

Anyway, I'll find a way to pay for these courses. Will this awful transcript follow me in the future? I feel like if I re-take the courses, then future employers will still see all of those C's and D's and think less of me. I hate college so much! I can't stand how grades are permanent and follow you forever. I can't believe I'll have to live my life like this! Why do my grades have to determine my overall self?

How to erase your grades on the your high school transcript when you retook the class and replaced the grade?

I have ugly grades on my transcript. I retaken my classes on florida virtual school, but my bad grade is still on the transcript and with the retaken grade on the side. I want the bad grade to go away since i retaken it. So is there anyway to remove that?
for example
Algebra 2
D A
thats how it looks. i want the D to go away because i retaken it and got an A.

Can one semester of bad grades ruin your chances of MIT/Ivy League acceptance?

As for my qualifications to answering this question, I was accepted to Harvard, MIT, Stanford and UC Berkeley and graduated with a degree in Computer Science. In addition to my job as a software developer in Silicon Valley, I volunteer as an admissions interviewer for Harvard. To be honest... yes it does adversely affect you chances of being accepted, but have hope. You fell into the "trap" that admissions officers are specifically warned to look out for - students who blow off their senior year after sending in their college applications because they think it "doesn't matter." While, a slight drop in grades is not unusual, dropping to C's and D's is a big red flag to admissions officers as a sign that this student lacks internal motivation for excellence.Your test scores are quite good so you are still have a decent chance of being accepted despite this. Just make sure to spin your personal narrative during your college interview. You'll need to admit to having some personal motivational issues which caused you to burn out a little at school, but you were able to recover and return to your previous level of excellence. If the interviewer doesn't mention it, you might consider bringing it up yourself because your senior fall grades are going to leave a big question mark in your application when it is review by the admissions board later on.Actually, beyond mere college applications, I think you need to use this as a teaching moment in your life. When you are at college, there is no one there telling you to study and your parents often can go for months without actually knowing how you are doing in school. I've seen plenty of classmates and friends in Harvard/MIT/Stanford wilt under the pressure and basically "go rogue" by skipping classes to party and play video games, most were able to pull themselves back together after a semester or two... some were not and never completed their degree. If you are already having motivational issues in high school, you might want to stop to think about what you really want to do in life, what steps you will need to take to reach that goal in life, and internalize (I know it sounds silly... but the human brain is Predictably Irrational about such things)Good luck!

Are "W"s or withdrawals on your transcript as bad as they sound?

I'm an English major, hoping to transfer to UC Berkeley. I signed up for a Creative Writing class this semester, but things have gotten a little hectic and I'm considering dropping the class. The last day to drop a class without a getting a "W" was last week, but I didn't think about dropping until this week. I've been working every day, and am currently enrolled in six classes. I'm also trying to get two honors projects going for this semester. I'm starting to feel disoriented, and feel the need to drop this class, seeing that it gives me the most stress. This isn't a class that is required for transfer, nor is it a part of the IGETC. It's just an elective class I felt like taking. Would it be wise to drop it to save the grades for my other required classes? Or would it be suicide cause it would make me an English major who dropped out of a writing class?

Does having a W (Withdraw Grade) affect graduate school admissions?

When I look at a transcript, I only care about some courses.  If you withdraw from "Maoist Theory 101" or "Winemaking Practicum", I really don't care. For courses I do care about (e.g., "Algorithms"), if you eventually take the course and do well that's fine too.  Perhaps you had a busy schedule or the professor sucked.  But if you withdraw from a lot of classes that I care about and then never complete them, that's a really bad sign (either incompetence or grade grubbing).

Will having an F on my transcript kill my chances at a top school? Last semester, I got 5 A's and 1 F in AP Stats (elective credit) due to an extremely low grade on the final (40% of overall grade). Is there anything I can do to remediate this?

If you are a junior, re-take AP Statistics and replace the grade. If you are a senior, then the only thing you might do is include a letter explaining why you have the low grade. I would only recommend writing the letter if there was a non-academic contributing factor that led to the F. Are the A’s you made in other AP courses? (This might make a difference) Did you also take AP Calculus and do well?I will be honest, if you are aiming for “top” schools, then yes, one F will probably be enough to disqualify you. Like job interviews, these admissions committees receive lots of applications. They will look for any indicator to disqualify you and reach their quota for admissions.

Will one C in one quarter of an elective greatly affect my chances of getting into a top tier school despite an otherwise perfect transcript?

Not at all! If this was early on and you have shown improvement in the academic performance in your classes, then it shouldn’t matter much. Especially if it is in a class that college admissions are not really concerned with when looking at what you applied to them for.I wish you the best of luck!
