Horse Height Vs Rider Height Question

Height of Horse For Me?

ok so im like 5'1''.
i know, im really reallyy short.
been there all my life xD

anyways, ive been searching some horses because (if i can EVER convince my parents) ive aways wanted a horse. someone recently posted a question that asked if their pony was to small for them, her pony was 14.3hh and she was taller than i am! anyways, i used to ride a pony who they said was 14.3hh but she was pretty small, even for me, so im thinking either they measured her wrong, or the other girl did.

So what height horse would be ideal for me?
Also, if this has any relation whatsoever to the question, im not super obese but im not really thin either (darn legs) so i dont know if that should affect the size of the horse either. Or how drastically it affects it or whatever.

haha ok so thanks for your help/answers! =]

Does anyone know where a good rider height vs. horse height is?

Thier really arnt charts because the thickness of the horse (or even rider) can play a big part...so if it says a 5ft person is good with a 15 hand horse who knows? This 5ft person can be close to 200 lbs!!!

But this should help!!

Withering heights questions?

1. Explain heathscliff's "almanac" and its relevance to Catherine's behavior.

2. Describe the conversation between Nelly and Heathcliff before the dinner party.

3. Describe the conversation between Cathrine and Nelly, in Edgar's presence.

Thank you in advance! :)

Horse/ Height?

A horse is only too short in two cases.
1. The horse can be fully saddled and walk between your legs with out disturbing you.
2. Your feet drag the ground when your riding.
Thats pretty much it. My roping horse is 14.2 with old shoes on(being old shoes, his feet are longer). Luck

Height/weight vs. your horses' size?

Much of the information related in that excerpt can be found in the article I'm posting, and it is accurate. This article sites information from the research done by various experts, including the renowned equine anatomy and conformation analyst, Dr. Deb Bennett.
The 20% rule is not based in science and never was. This article lists the factors that actually do determine the weight-bearing capacities of horses, and heavy draft breeds carrying excessive body mass, or some bulldog type quarter horses are not designed to carry weight. Their bones cannot develop the circumference required to be able to support more than their own body mass. A sturdy little 14.2 hh Arab with good conformation and correct bone to body mass ratio can often carry 35% of his own weight with no soundness issues.

What height of horse or pony is ideal for a 5ft 4 teenager?

I seem to remember answering a similar question last week. It depends, among other things, on what type of riding you are doing, your level of confidence, and how much more you think you will grow. If you grow very tall with long legs, you may feel that you can't use your legs as effectively or keep them in place as easily as you might on a larger horse. This might hinder your performance in equitation classes. On the other hand, if you are still fairly new to riding and/or find larger horses somewhat intimidating, having a smaller pony who is that much closer to the ground, may provide you with greater confidence. Lastly, if all you want to do is go for casual hacks through the countryside, then the pony's personality and trail savvy are much more important than his size.

Maximum height a rider should be for a 14.2hh horse?

I don't think there is one, as long as the pony in question is chunky enough to carry the weight/take up the rider's leg so they don't look too big.

I am 5'5" and ride a 14.1hh Connemara - he's quite chunky and has a good amount of bone and I am not too heavy and don't look too big. I can get away with riding a 13.2hh traditional cob because he's chunky enough to take up my leg. I'd swap a slightly built 14.1hh pony.

I do county level showing with my Connemara - I've seen people about 5'10" riding 14.2hh and they look fine.
