Back at work your rejuvenated and feel a million bucks. Then you get the medical bills Crikey I'll need to work my buns off to get out of debt. Now your tired, very tired and depressed with lots debt

What to say when someone's dad is in the hospital?

What to say in a card to my landlord?
Rent is due. Last I spoke with my landlord he wanted me to mail the check rather than he pick it up because his father is in the hospital. I bought a blank card that says "thinking of you" to mail the check in. What is a nice message I could write inside?
Something about happy new years? Something about enjoying the past holidays? Something along the lines of I hope everything gets better? Something about his father?
Also should I sign it from all the roommates or just me? Because is the part about his father something I should have kept to myself?

Have you ever been so stressed you ended up in the hospital?

Yes. I was so overwhelmed with stress and anxiety that I went for five days without sleep…it was actually longer than 120 hours of no-sleep so it was actually a little longer than 5 days. I was so exhausted, I couldn’t walk, couldn’t eat, became so nauseous that even after everything came up, I dry heaved for hours. I literally thought I was suffering a slow, painful death. After falling down several times and feeling delirious, I called 911. I was taken to the hospital and placed on three IV’s and even the medications would not induce sleep. I begged for the doctors to simply give me something that would simply put me under…I could take it no longer. I stayed the night in the hospital (awake the whole time) and then simply removed all the IV’s, unhooked all the monitors, called Uber for a ride home and then in the middle of the day (my sixth day awake) I FINALLY fell asleep. It was the worst misery I have ever experienced. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy although I can definitely appreciate how sleep deprivation would be an effective torture technique. I’m on Rx Restoril now and it usually works but not always. I still (at times) go for a day or two without sleep and it is the definition of suffering.

What are some good movies to watch while in the hospital?

I prescribe light comedies. While laughter is a very good medicine, you may not be in a proper condition for the shaking that comes from outright belly laughs. So just some good, 'old fashioned' feel-good movies for you!

May I suggest:

Mr. Hulot's Holiday. Mr. Hulot (Jacques Tati) goes on vacation at a small seaside resort for a week. Amusing things happen. Then he goes home. Yes, it's in black and white. Yes, it's French. But there's so little dialogue, it's practically a silent movie. If you could merge Rowan Atkinson's "Mr. Bean" with any of Buster Keaton's characters, you'd get Tati's Mr. Hulot...

Kiki's Delivery Service: A work from the great Hayao Miyazaki. As is the custom amongst her family, the 13 year old Kiki leaves home to begin a year of independent study as a witch. She settles in a town with a view of the ocean, and tries to find a role for herself. The Disney dubbed version is perfectly fine.

Any good duas to read for someone who's sick in the hospital ?

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to place his right hand on the sick person and say (three times) Reported in Sahih Muslim

Azhibil ba'sa rabban naas
washfi Antash shaafee.
Laa shifaa-a illaa shifaa uka
Shifaa-al laa yughaa diru saqamaa

“Take away the pain,
O Lord of mankind,
and grant healing,
for You are the Healer, and there is no healing
but Your healing that leaves no trace of sickness"

It was narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dawood that the Prophet (pbuh) said:
“Whoever visits a sick person who is not yet dying, should recite the following dua seven times in his presence”:

أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ رَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ أَنْ يَشْفِيَكَ

‘As’alu Allaaha hul azeema
Rabb al-‘arsh il-‘azeem
Ayyn- yashfiyaka'

"I ask Allah who is the Lofty and the Lord of the Mighty Throne that He cures you"

Walaykum assalaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

British people say "going to hospital" or "at university". Most Americans would have "the" in both phrases. Is there a general rule when "the" is omitted in British English?

The correct answer is from Chris Day.When a British person says “I’m going to hospital” they mean they are going to participate in the services of the Hospital - ie, they are going there for treatment. If they were to say “I’m going to the hospital” - you would understand that to mean they are visiting someone else, or doing some work there etc - but NOT being treated. The same would be said of “going to school” - would mean they are going as a student, but “going to the school” would mean going as a non-student - perhaps to see an event, pick up a child etc”.There are only a few exceptions of this type - the ones I can think of are Hospital, School, University, College. Lorenz Goebels rightly suggested Prison and Church. You can see how a Native English speaker would have a completely different understanding of “I’m going to Prison”, from “I’m going to the Prison”.I know it’s illogical, but you’d never say “I’m going to cinema”, or “I’m going to restaurant” etc, even though you might work there, or be eating there etc. Also, you’d say “I’m going to England”, never “I’m going to the England” - but conversely, you’d never say “I’m going to United Kingdom” - you’d always say “I’m going to THE United Kingdom”.English - a language with few rules and innumerable exceptions to them.

Is it necessary for a boyfriend to visit his girlfriend in the hospital in case she gets a minor surgery done?

I will not answer this question by stating my opinion (yes you should go / No, Its alright), Its more of a thought provoking suggestion. Being in a relationship is definitely more than just having good time together. Relationship requires a certain degree of commitment wherein you put your girl/guy over most of the other things. Taking care of each other becomes the priority  and you have to mean it to the sea depth. Calling over phone or dropping a text to ask her how her surgery went doesn't look like you are treating him/her the way you should have. If this kind of thought is even crossing your mind then i have a strong sensation that its a matter of great concern. In Current generation, almost everyone have hundreds of friend who can text you to know how are you doing, few of them would call you every fortnight to check whats up with you and a handful of them will stay by your side always, especially during bad times. You have to giver her a reason why, leaving all those people who can still care for her, she has to be with you. How  this act of yours (not being there with her when she needs you the most) justifies and differentiate you as her boyfriend from other friends of hers who loves and care for her but cant be there because they have some other priorities....!Remember : Time & Concern is the most precious thing in the world which you can ever give to your loved ones. all other things could be bought but not Time.
