Hot But Shivering At Night

What causes someone to wake up in the middle of the night shivering?

Shivering is a mechanism used by a warm-blooded animal to increase their core body temperature. The muscle movements of shivering increase body temperature by expending energy. There are many reasons for shivering, most notably an impending infection and oncoming fever, low blood sugar, or a spider bite. It is best to listen to your body and follow your intuition: if you are shivering, cover up exposed body parts to retain heat, especially the head where a lot of heat is lost. Do Not try to stop shivering with medication, because this just hides the symptom and doesn't address the problem. If shivering continues, seek a doctor's advice right away. http://m.newhealthadvisor.com/Un...

Why did I wake up with shivers and feeling cold after a nightmare?

I think it might be hard to find an answer to this. I have woke up literally freezing after having nightmares. Since I didn’t know the answer I googled the question using a few different ways to word it, and got a lot of information about raising body temperatures but not lower body temperatures. However then I considered the amount of stress that a person can experience during nightmares and looked up if body temperatures could drop from stress and it can. That stress is the reason is just a guess though and not fact. so unfortunately I didn’t help. I also like another answer you got from Tammy Greggs guess. Your body temperature does indeed drop when you are sleeping. So unfortunately I didn’t help. Still at least you know you are not alone with this kind of experience.

Shivering, but not cold?

Some reasons for shaking

fever
low blood sugar Did you skip meals? Or
Sugar fest (lots of chocolate would give you both caffeine and sugar).
Alcohol/Drug withdrawal
Excess use of stimulants....caffeine (coffee, tea, red bull, monster, chocolate, soda), OTC cold medication that contain, pseudoephedrine hydrochloride and pseudoephedrine sulfate, diet pills, energy supplements and nicotine can cause shakes. Amphetamine Use (Cocaine, Crack, Crystal, Meth).
Anxiety, fear, panic
Dehydration / Physical Exhaustion
Excess Inhaler Use for a reactive airway disease (Asthma, Bronchitis, COPD).

Disease oriented tremors, are associated with Neurological diseases like Parkinson's, Strokes, CP. Hereditary Tremors / Essential Tremors, Seizures and Hyperthyroidism.

Sounds like you're healthy and maybe just a little dry. Drink up....sports drinks that aid in hydration and high carb/protein snacks to get you through your competitions/meets.

Some things to think about.

I woke up in the middle of the night shivering and COLD!?

Here are tips that help me when I'm fighting a cold, respiratory infection, or flu.....

take a sinus decongestant containing Phenylephrine 5mg. you don't necessarily need all the extras it's often mixed with.
but if you want some extras, here you go: Guaifenisen (Mucinex is the brand name, but it's way cheaper at dollar stores. always read ingredients!!) liquefies your mucus so it's much easier to expel. But you have to drink TONS of water or it won't work, and you must be near a bathroom because it makes you pee a lot.
Ibuprofen is an excellent anti-inflammatory, but it's strong, so alternate it with Acetaminophen as needed for pain, pressure, and headaches.

ESSENTIALS:

stay home. (even one day can make a difference. plus, you'll keep your germs to yourself.)
sleep. (bolsters up your immune system)
drink plenty of water. (8 8oz servings a day=bare minimum!!) (pee out those germs and flush 'em away!!)
take vitamin C, zinc, and echinacea. (also strengthen the immune system)
eat too much garlic. (sorry, but it really is great for your health! and it will give you a good reason to stay home. :) )

avoid milk and chocolate. dairy foods will thicken your mucus and make your fight that much harder.

the meds and garlic are harsh, so don't take them on an empty stomach. i hope you allow yourself some time to feel better soon! take care.

also i just learned a new tip from JOHN POPPER of BLUES TRAVELER: very hot water, cayenne pepper, white vinegar, and honey. GROSS!!! he gargles it and spits up all kinds of nasty crap. might be worth a shot, but don't hurt your vocals! to be safe maybe just do hot water with lemon and honey. that works too, and it's much more pleasant.

COUGHING FITS:
you will benefit most from the mucinex and water. (generic is fine... but don't take any DEXTROMETHORPHAN during the day. take it at night so you can stop coughing and get some rest. during the day, you need to drink a ton of water and break that crap up so it will leave you alone!)

Intense cold intense shivering/shaking?

No, it's not normal. If this is a new symptom, you might be coming down with something, such as the flu (there are many infections that can cause intense chills, but flu is one of the most common). If it happens regularly, it could be something like a thyroid problem. If you are in your forties or beyond, it could be the start of menopause. The cure for the flu is plenty of bed rest and liquids. Thyroid imbalances can be treated with medication. Symptoms of menopause can be reduced with hormone treatments.

Why do people suddenly shiver during night sleep?

Shivering is mainly because of body temperature dipping suddenly and as a result you feel cold. As the temperature during night dips quite fast, we shiver as our body temperature also goes down along with it (thanks to us being a Cold-blooded creature).Explanation:Different organs/parts of our body has been given different priorities in terms of importance, to save in a life threatening situation. The priorities are, generally, like this:Brain > Heart, Lungs > Stomach, gut, eyes > Muscles > SkinWhen our body temperature dips, the blood circulation to various parts are prioritized in order to save important parts. As you can see in the above priority, skin is the least. As soon as our body temperature goes below normal range (96.5 F), the blood supply to skin is reduced. Due to low blood circulation through skin, the tissues starts to break/die and we will shivering.Things to keep in mind:It is the first and very important sign of body temperature going down.Keep yourself warm and rub your skin to increase the blood supply in the skin area.Hope it helps :)

What does it mean if you wake up shivering?

It means you are either too cold , had a full bladder or just had a bad nightmare. Our body temperatures drop as we fall asleep, so try not to use fans or air conditioning at a high level when sleeping. Dont drink too much water before sleeping, if u want to avoid a full bladder. Nightmares if keep recurring could be steaming from psychology, u need a psychologist help to get over it.

Why am I alternating between sweating and shivering with my flu?

Your body is trying to cool off. You sweat and the water on your skin is using the heat of your body to evaporate, you have the twitching of all those muscles which produces heat at the surface of your skin where the heat is lost to surrounding air, that is persived as chills. You indeed are not cold but rather too hot. Do not cover yourself so you can cool off. Your body is trying to decrease your core temperature. One theory is that when we had a fur back when during the evolution your hair would open up to let the trapped air to be realeased, that’s why you may feel like having goosebumps.

What are the main reasons for one to shake or shiver while sleeping?

When you shiver, your muscles are rapidly contracting creating additional heat for your body. If you are shivering at night, it might be because you are too cold. It is a good idea to be cool at night, considering a lower body temperature results in better quality of sleep, but definitely not to the point of shivering.Edit: if you are quivering just before falling asleep (I'm assuming it's just before because you'd have to be aware of the fact that you're sleeping) it could be a common phenomenon called a hypnic jerk. Read up on it here!Hypnic jerkCheers
