Did the beatles write/sing any songs that had anything to do with family?
Well they did write She's leaving home and lots of other songs. A lot of he songs were relevant to childhood experience and not always in a positive way. The relationships with their fathers were not great, If I remember correctly John had not seen his father for YEARS! Until he became famous. John seemed to look forwards especially when his children wereborn, concentrating on them when writing lyrics. Both John Lennon and Paul McCartney had difficult families. And both lost their mothers as children. John was brought up by cousins, and his mother was run over outside their home by an off duty drunk driver policeman. He didn't write much about family units as such but he did write a song called 'Mother', which was poignant. John wrote about his sons, and Yoko, and about his mother and about childhood haunts such as Strawberry fields. Paul's mother died of cancer when he was quite young too. Both Paul and John were from fairly poor backgrounds and all lived in ordinary terraced houses, and neither John or Paul did experience a conventional family upbringing without problems. George and Ringo were born of low income families too, both born in their family homes in Liverpool, but the pair did not have quite as much to do with Beatles lyrical content and writing. John found himself in the position whereby whatever he wrote was fine, he could have written about anything and fans lapped it up. There are drugs connections to lyrics too and the song 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' is one argument, some say this referred to LSD, others dis-agree. Beautiful boy (darling boy) as mentioned by someone else is a masterpiece of a song, very confident lyrically, and was indeed written for his Son. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_imwld_W... How can I write post-hardcore lyrics?
Post-hardcore as a genre doesn't have set lyrics. It started out as an experimental style of hardcore music that fused several genres, it's meant to be about experimentalism. If you try to fit in with other post-hardcore bands musically and lyrically, you're defining post-hardcore too strictly and destroying what it initially was. I mean, compare the lyrics of Fugazi to a band like Thrice, then see that post-hardcore lyrics don't have set styles. Fugazi - Turnover "Langour rises reaching, to turn off the alarm And there's never so much seething That it can't be disarmed You just stop it up, Pass it on Shove it to shelf it, To leave it off and turnover Lounging against your weapons, Until your muscles find lock In the ease of that position, A residue of tremor passes As some cherie amour suggests That maybe it was time to smash things up But just stop it up, Pass it on Shove it to shelf it, To lead it on and turnover I'm only sleeping" Thrice - Cold Cash and Colder Hearts "They are sick, they are poor And they die by the thousands and we look away They are wolves at the door And they're not gonna move us or get in our way 'Cause we don't have the time Here at the top of the world Feeling alright Here at the top of the world We hold our own by keeping our hearts cold Different god, darker skin They are just not a burden that we'd like to bear They are living in "sin" There are so many reasons for us not to care But I'm feeling alright Here at the top of the world Doing just fine Here at the top of the world We've learned money matters most So we keep our cards held close Here at the top of the world We hold our own by keeping our hearts cold And we've learned what matters most So we keep our hearts cold They are no one They are nowhere They are not our problem Not worth saving Nonexistent if we keep our hearts cold They are no one They are nowhere" Anyway, I just suggest reading a lot of poetry, and even novels to get a good idea of writing, inspiration, imagery and then just write whatever comes out of your head. Don't overthink it! Just let words flow naturally.
I suck at memorizing song lyrics?
Most people can't remember some lines themselves unless they study them like you do. Most of the people I know can't remember lyrics without the song playing unless it's a song they listen to more than a few times a day. I'm the only of a few who can remember lyrics without the song itself playing. First I listen to the song without really paying attention to anything and just enjoy it, then I listen mainly to the melody, then I listen to the words. It also helps to sing along with the song while it's playing, even a mumble is more effective than following it in your head. Another thing when I tap my foot to a song it tap to one of two things, the beat or the syllables to each words of the lyrics. You might want to try training yourself to go more with the syllables rather then the beat because some things that throw people off is they have the melody of the song in their head but follow the beat of the song and words that match the beat come to their mind. It might seem like the same as studying them at first but eventually it will feel natural.
B&A - What's your favourite song LYRICS (because you're cool)?
OMG! MGMT! I bought their new album and now I can't get Brian Eno out of my heeeeeeeead. GAH. xD My favorite lyrics of all-time are hard to pick out. So I'll just give the first three that came to mind. "When they drilled holes in your skull And screwed that halo to your head Did you think you could fly?" ~ A Good Man Is Easy To Kill by Beulah "And there's kids playing guns in the street And one's pointin' his tree branch at me So I put my hands up I said, 'Enough is enough. If you walk away, I'll walk away.' And he shot me dead." ~ Landlocked Blues by Bright Eyes "Anyone will tell you Yes, anyone Chance had me setting a tripwire alarm." ~ Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore (B. Pour Another Icepick) by The Mars Volta BQ: Yep! *about to bore you to tears* Mostly, the stuff that inspires me is instrumental, but recently I was inspired by lyrics from a few different songs to write a two-part story about a girl who sold her soul to the devil so she wouldn't die when she was suppose to. The devil replaced her soul with a demon who fed off of pain and misfortune and made the girl inflict these things on the people around her so he wouldn't starve. Eventually, the demon began to wear her body out and realized that his host was growing weak, so he set out to find a new body to inhabit--and found it in the strongest man in the village. I'm not exactly happy with the ending, but the whole story was borne from song lyrics. :] EDIT: Thought up another lyric that I really like! "A laundry list of problems Doesn't make you interesting And never getting help Doesn't make you brave Not listening to reason Doesn't mean that you have faith You're just cutting off your nose To spite your face." ~ Sympathy for the Martyr by Straylight Run :]
Alternative/rock/indie bands with the best lyrics?
When it comes down to it, I love music with good lyrics. I'm a writer and words really mean a lot to me. I like how Bright Eyes, Brand New, and A Day to Remember write their songs. All a bit different, but good writing styles, none the less. Who else has good lyrics? Anything in the alternative, rock, indie, punk, pop-rock, etc genre.
What made you fall in love with writing, and do you remember how old you were?
I was very into writing poetry when I was 15 and up but the most influential poet to me was Edgar Allan Poe followed by Jim Morrison. Inspired by passion and pain I would write.
What is the meaning of the song "Once upon a December"?
http://nrussian.wordpress.com/2009/12/04... gives a little background its basically saying that Anastasia almost remembers her life before amnesia, before that December emotions would be slight sadness, nostalgia, confusion, pondering, trying to remember, imagine that your life now, is not who you really are, that you are really someone else, and all you have is a music box to remind you of your past, and you are confused and cant remember
