How Accurate Are Cellphone Providers Coverage Maps

How can every phone service provider be the #1 phone company in the US and how accurate are their coverage maps?

One covers the most potential users. Another covers the largest geographic area. Yet another is number one by some other statistic. It's just marketing.

How are data coverage maps for Verizon, AT&T, etc. Generated?

First some background: All cell phones communicate with their network using radio waves. Calls are connected by a system of cell sites and those sites are how providers establish coverage areas. These sites allow calls to travel over the same network as well as across networks.Coverage maps are generated because companies know the range of their sites, the type of terrain around their sites and how many sites are clustered in one area. Based on this information, companies have a general idea of where their signal is strong or weak. Companies also have ways on their website to report signal issues or dead zones. Based on these, companies can either improve their cell sites or improve their coverage map. Based on all this, companies are able to generate the colorful maps showung approximately where they have signal and where their dead zones lie.

Who has the better cell phone network coverage in Santa Cruz, California -- ATT or Verizon?

While this may not be the most scientific method, it is better than one person's experience, and free of the marketing hype found amongst the company produced maps.I pulled the following maps from the Opensignalmaps.com site:AT&T:Verizon:Generally, my experience mirrors what is found in these maps. I have both a Verizon iPhone 4 and an AT&T iPhone 4. What is not made clear in these maps, but something I notice consistently, is that even when I might have only two bars of coverage on my AT&T iPhone, the 3G data speeds are much faster than when I have full bars on my Verizon iPhone. If we go by the data above, it would seem AT&T has a little bit better coverage in the greater Santa Cruz county area.

Viber location inaccurate?

Hi,
This is an official representative of Viber Media.

The Location feature uses your GSM's (cellphone service provider) location signal, and its exact accuracy depends on your network provider. Viber does not use your GPS settings. You may leave your GPS on or you may turn it off. This will not affect the Location feature in Viber.

There may be a slight margin of error, depending which tower captures your location. Viber has no control of this. The information received by the tower is then displayed back to your device within Google maps. If reception is good and you are in a high-coverage area, the margin of error may be 1 to 100 meters +/-. Within large populated areas, with stable state-of-the-art GSM capabilities, the location awareness will have a greater accuracy.

Thanks,
Viber.

Is Sprint a good cell phone service for Wisconsin?

Yes, the coverage maps are fairly accurate. You can check it down to the street level at http://sprint.com/coverage. Whether they have "good coverage" depends on where you are. Out in the boonies, maybe, maybe not, but in most cities you're golden.

You can also try the service for 30 days, and if you don't like it you can send back the phone and get a refund. It's worth a shot.

Is there any true and factual way to tell which cell phone service provider is most reliable? E.g. Verizon, Sprint, AT&T.

The answer is it depends where you are. There is no truly best provider. The general consensus is the order on the following list. I assume that you are interested in the US.Verizon AT&T t-Mobile Sprint (You didn’t list t-Mobile for some reeason.)Again, it depends where you are. Sprint generally has the least reliable service and Verizon has a reputation for being the most expensive service. t-Mobile has improved tremendously over the last three years.Don’t forget that there are MVNO providers like MetroPCS and Boost that piggyback on the major carriers.

Which cell phone carrier is best in Los Angeles -- Verizon or Sprint?

A bit of context: I'm one of the founders of RepeaterStore and OpenSignal.Based on hundreds of thousands of signal readings and speed tests submitted by OpenSignal users, Verizon has the best service in LA county, followed by T-Mobile and then MetroPCS. You can check out our maps at OpenSignal.com and take a look. Sprint is a distant 5th and has by far the worst coverage in LA.Actual signal on a building-by-building basis often varies depending on the type of insulation used and as a result of Multipath interference. If you're still having troubles with coverage, you might want to consider either using a cell phone repeater (which we sell at RepeaterStore.com) or a femtocell device from your carrier.

Verizon vs T Mobile Coverage?

I live in Southern California and currently have Verizon as my cell service provider. I am thinking of switching to T Mobile to cut my bill in half. I am only reluctant to do so as all the ratings say Verizon has the best cell phone coverage. Has any one in the area had experience with both companies and can tell me if their coverage is comparable? I cant stand to drop any more calls than I already do. =)
