How Bad Is It If My Picc Line May Get A Bit Moist

Daughter on PICC line with antibiotic not getting better?

Day 6 and she is only slightly better. I thought she was going to be on the antibiotic for 21 days now I find out it's only 12. Is that normal? I know when she is in the hospital she gets better after about 3 days. Is it possible that the apt that we live in and maybe the area has toxins that's causing her not to get better. My apt is very old and the carpet is about 10 years old. The area we live in is very wet. There's fungus even growing in the siding. I have seen small bits of mold around an air vent. If there is bacteria in the air will this inhibit her from getting better? I'm almost worried she's not going to make it and she's worried she will stop breathing in her sleep. She won't even sleep at night. She waits for day light when she knows we will be awake. I'm at the end of my rope. Like I said before her oxygen has not gone under 93. And the past 2 days it's been going from 94-97. I'm just worried that the place we live is going to be her downfall. I'm trying to move but it's proving to be difficult.

Dizzy after IV antibiotics via PICC line - HELP PLEASE?

I've got a PICC line for the second time now, so I can administer IV antibiotics for a kidney infection. Last time everything was fine. I just administered my antibiotics. I had to push a little harder than usual, but no where near as hard as the nurses do! When I attached the antibiotic syringe to the end of the line I could see little particles. I thought it was just some left over saline on the end of the line - the nurses said I didn't have to wipe it off between saline-antibiotic-saline-heparin as long as the end stayed clean.

So I was halfway through the infusion when I started to feel dizzy. So I stopped and switched to the other arm. Still feel kind of dizzy. Looked it up and particles in the antibiotic is bad - but no one TOLD ME! I also have an anxiety disorder so at this point I can't tell if I'm dizzy because something is wrong or because I'm freaking out. I can breath. MY chest doesn't hurt. My dressing looks ok (took a shower but it didn't get wet) If I was going to have a stroke or an embolysm would it have happened by now? I have no number to call. :(

This antibiotic is more concentrated so maybe that's why it made me dizzy. Maybe I pushed it too all-at-once? Maybe the hash I smoked earlier so I could sleep kicked in at the exact wrong moment? I wasn't using medical marijuana last time, so I don't know. It makes me spacey. Did I cough too much and dislodge the catheter? Someone help me, please. I know other people have experienced these PICC issues...

PICC Line and Sedation Questions?

I had a PICC line for about 6 months during my cancer treatment. I was in the hospital for i.v. antibiotics and wanted to go HOME in the worst way, so my oncol. finally ordered the PICC, then I could administer the meds myself. (and this avoided having a port installed in the chest) I don't do needles well, but I was not sedated and did not feel a thing getting the line installed in my upper arm. They took an x-ray afterward to make sure the line went to the right place at the heart, and it was fine. There was one specialty nurse at Stanford who did these all day long to patients and she knew exactly how to do it in the safest manner possible. I can't remember if she put some lidocaine or something in first, but I'm a wimp and a complainer, and I had no trouble at all. It is a bit of a pain to bathe with it. They gave me a plastic sleeve to wrap my arm in so I could take a shower, but it was about worthless (velcro tightening on one end that was not leak-proof). Taking a bath was ok, just had to keep that arm out of the water. I was glad to have it, because it made all the blood tests and dye for scans easy to administer.

You look like a girl that used to be in my science class minus the braces, it's a good thing, she was cute.

What is the worst injury you have suffered? Did you heal or are you now disabled as a result?

Well, let’s see: I ruptured a disc in 2004 and worked throwing bundles of newspapers for six months before a surgeon said, hey, we need to fix that. Didn’t go well. Got a staph infection for a year.2008: ruptured another disc. Surgery, got a staph infection, but for only three months.2016: my legs are going numb but I can’t stop working, so I suck it up, throw thousands of pounds of powder, thousands of pounds of strawberries, climb all over hell and half of Georgia to get my job done. Doggone it: I broke my fibula, but it’s not so bad, right? Six weeks in a boot, and I am good to go . . . except I’m not. I’ve also torn a tendon and have significant tendon damage in my ankle. this is what fells me and puts me on permanent disability, but unpaid, by the way. Daily pain and swelling will never go away. There is no fix.I was raised to work hard, stay strong, do the job, no matter what. I’ve never been on long-term disability, never been without work unless I had an open wound and a picc line. This has really messed with my sense of self. I’ve always been defined by my work ethic, and indeed, defined myself by my work. I was the first and only woman to be a lead operator at a sterilizer plant. I was the first and only woman to be a lead operator at a dairy facility on the pastuerizer. I’m not a long, lean athlete. I’m a short, fat woman who uses her brain to improvise, adapt and overcome. (Thanks, Marines)So now, I’ve gone back to my first love: writing. At the very least, it gets me out of bed and gives me something to complain about when it doesn’t go well.
