How Bad Is Traffic On Friday Nights On The I-5 Northbound

Traffic 2 O'clock, 5 miles, northbound !explain?

Think of the world that you see out of your eyes as a clock on its back.

12:00 is straight ahead.
6:00 is straight behind.
3:00 is directly 90* to your right.
9:00 is directly 90* to your left.
The other numbers fit in.

When a FAA center says, "Traffic. 2 o'clock. 5 miles. northbound." it means there is another plane at 60*, five miles away, heading north.

You also need to think of the world in terms of degrees on a circle.

12:00= 0*
1:00= 30*
2:00= 60*
3:00= 90*
4:00= 120*
5:00= 150*
6:00= 180*
7:00= 210*
8:00= 240*
9:00= 270*
10:00= 300*
11:00= 330*
12:00= 360*

How bad is Atlanta traffic on Sunday afternoon?

Both of the answers above have good points. Checking out road construction is a must. If you are talking about this weekend, you do not want to drive through the downtown area...there are a lot of major events happening (which have added over an additional 100,000 people downtown) and it could be a real mess. It seems like we've had a lot of recent road construction on the top end of I-285 east bound. If that is the case, it might be longer but much quicker, if you took I-285 southbound.

How is traffic between Seattle and Portland on Friday mornings?

As long as you time it so as to hit the Vancouver/Portland area not later than 2 or 2:30 pm, you should be fine. There's always a little congestion around the Tacoma Dome on I-5 but other than that (since you are starting at SeaTac and not Seattle proper) it should be fine. The halfway point of the journey is the town of Centralia, WA. It's not exactly a fine dining oasis but there's a Burgerville there. Burgerville is a Pacific Northwest chain that uses all fresh local ingredients from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana, including Tillamook cheese and Oregon Country Beef. The berry and hazelnut shakes are legendary, and the Walla Walla Sweets onion rings are so good.If you want real restaurant food, stop in Tacoma and eat in the downtown area near the Museum of Glass. If you have time, you might consider a real stop at the Museum of Glass; it is remarkable, and you can do it in 60-90 minutes without sacrificing much. Great gift shop, too.If your GPS tells you to get off I-5 at any point, follow its directions.   Seriously.Have fun! If you want to meet Quorans come post in the Portlandia blog.

How bad is the traffic going from orange county to san diego?

Leave by 6:00 AM and you should be fine.
Traffic moves fast through Camp Pendleton, which is a big piece of the commute. It will slow when you hit Carlsbad/Encinitas.

The real problem is the northbound commute later in the day. Expect that to take well over 2 hours. The 5 / 805 merge is always a mess at Del Mar, north to Oceanside, especially in the summer and on Fridays. ...And then there is the immigration check point right before the OC.

BTW you can also take the MetroLink to Oceanside and transfer to the Coaster, which will take you right downtown. Amtrak will take you from Anaheim to downtown.

I know a lot of people who commute from the OC to North San Diego County. It's a lot less brutal than going all the way to San Diego. I suggest you look for a job in the Carlsbad area. Lots of high tech industry in the area, especially bio tech, golf, and software. Also there are two world class luxury resorts, La Costa and Aviara.

Is the traffic bad between carlsbad ca and san diego airport on mondays at 5PM?

Going northbound at 5pm on the I-5 is worse (esp in the La Jolla/Del Mar area) but the southbound lanes all the way from Carlsbad to downtown can grind to a halt as well. What is normally a 30 minute ride can easily take an hour.

This website will show you a map of San Diego highway speeds and traffic delays so you can see the bad spots:

Is there heavy traffic on the I-5 freeway in LA on Christmas Eve (24th night)?

You should leave the Bay Area by 6 am so you'll arrive in downtown by noon or 1 pm - depending on how fast you're willing to drive. Traffic should be okay provided there's no rain (or snow on the grapevine -check for rain - it will snow on the grapevine!) so you will have to take the 101. Then add 2–3 hours as you can't drive as fast on 101. It'll be slow thru downtown but that's normal … the 24th will be as good as it gets since there won't be any construction. You know the 101 in the Bay Area … then you know the 101 or the 5 in LA. Good luck!

Los Angeles rush hour traffic?

In LA, the term 'rush hour' is an oxymoron. The shortest distance from Sta. Monica to SF is up the coast along PCH to the 101. Time-wise, it would be a crap shoot. The 101 bobs and weaves along the coastal hills, while the 5 is pretty much of a straight line through the San Joaquin Valley. Stay off the 1 - it is a very tiring drive. Also the 5 and the 101 are 2-lanes each way along much of the route. Truck traffic can be a pain. This time of year, fog is a factor. Give yourself 8-12 hours driving time.

How is San Diego traffic?

Well, first of all...compared to what?  If you compare San Diego traffic to Orange County or LA....then we don't even have traffic. It also depends on where you are coming from and where you are going. Central San Diego is only bad during rush hour, but relatively speaking, you will be driving while in traffic --- it's not stop & go.  Plus it depends on the freeway. The 805 -- it's pretty bad.  And the 5 coming South on Friday or Saturday is awful, but on most weekdays you only need to plan ahead for bad traffic during 4-6 if you are going South, and North Bound traffic heading up toward Oceanside is most awful from 3-6 on weekdays.  Traffic going South on the 5, is worst in the AM. I have lived in San Diego for almost 25 years and it has most definitely gotten worse over the past 10 years, but again compared to most other California metro areas it's relatively low-key.
