Which laptop currently has the best DAC?

Allmost all of them use the same DAC’s. What you should do, if you really are interested in getting the best possible sound, is to invest in an Audioquest Dragonfly. It’s a great little flash drive sized USB DAC, that will up your sound from the laptop considerably. But the speakers is a moot point too. All laptops have inferior speakers.Get a pair of decent small active nearfield monitors, and you’re good to go. Yamaha make some real good monitors to a great price.

For the DAC course in CDAC, which laptop I will require?

You will need laptop only in case you get very less opportunity to work in lab because of your lab partner :D and as girls are not to stay in the building after 10:00 pm, you may need it to practice at your room. Also laptops are really useful during projects, as you get limited number of resources from the class, it was necessary during DITISS course.Any simple laptop with 64bit 2.2+ GHz processor minimum 4gb ram, additional memory required in case of virtualization being used.Mostly coding and compilation is done using GCC or Eclipse compilers in Linux environment but windows based coding can only be done on windows platform.Hence using windows as base and Linux on virtual machine will be very convenient throughout. You may have the Oracle database installed for back-end, additional ram necessary in this case as well.

Which DAC does the Surface laptop have?

The Surface Laptop uses a pretty standard Realtek audio codec, which includes an integrated DAC/amp for the headphones and speakers as well as an ADC for the microphone. The DAC portion is nothing fancy, just a run-of-the-mill delta-sigma setup. As always, if you want quality audio, an external USB DAC and amp is the way to go. Invest in headphones first, though, they make a much bigger difference.

Cheap Laptop sound card vs external Dac?

GET THE CHEAP LAPTOP THEY ALL WAYS THE BEST AND ALWAYS GET THEM FORM PAWN SHOPS.U MIGHT GOT TO TAKE IT BACK EVERY HOUR BUT ITS WORTH IT.

Do I need a DAC with the Ruark MR1 desktop speakers?

No, you don't NEED a DAC other than the one built into your laptop already. They'll work fine with just a line level audio analog output. The quality of the files you play will be the first determinant of how good these speakers will sound. FLAC or other lossless or even hi-res audio files will sound the best. And keep the laptop's output volume below maximum to avoid possible clipping of the internal audio amp in the signal being fed to the Ruarks. Also, I advise against most EQ and "enhancement" options. That said, there CAN be an improvement from using an external DAC that's removed from the noisy RF environment inside the laptop, and some external units can allow you to play high bitrate files that the internal DAC can't handle. This is also an easy way to upgrade to one of the latest high quality chipsets for potentially improved audio quality (if you find the price worthwhile). Internal DACs are often basic models chosen to trim the production budget.Ideally you should first put that time and money into better source files and THEN compare the sound with and without the external DAC using those files. It's really the only way to tell if you personally find the difference significant enough to justify the additional expense. I seriously doubt any external DAC would be worse than the provided internal one, the question is how much better the sound would be to your ears.

What's the best audio setup that brings out the detail in music?

Apart from a good set of quality stereo speakers, unless you also have home threatre in your mind. The existence of DAC plays a very important role in your setup which would unleash the full potential of your set up speakers. A DAC will basically connect to a pc or laptop and will convert all digital files to analog signals and will send those signals to speakers or other equipment or even another DAC There are many DAC's avialable online and in market from fiio, audioengine, m-audio, audiolab etcAccording to me the best DAC till date is AUDIOLAB M-Dac and if you are looking for budget dac audio engine D1 Dac. Hook these up with your existing or new setup and you will be surprised what you hear after that years to come. Off course all of this is subjective to the kind of setup you are using and the kind of music files you are playing !! All the best
