How do you become a film critic?

Everyone's a critic.A good film critic must be passionate about film and on the whole the good ones,one's worth listening to,have years of experience and are extremely knowledgeable on all aspects of their subject because they do their research.As an earner,it's no pot boiler,certainly not as newbie.

Pro: Free movies, free food, sleep in, get paid to watch movies. Are there really any cons to this sweet job?

Right now i am in school for photography but i would really love to go into film critiques and film history and I dont know how to go about it, I know you have to take english but that is about it. Is there some type of program or school i can go to that has what i need?
Why do film critics exist?
Apparently film critics are supposed to be a part of the advertising aspect of the film industry, right? They tell you why you should see this movie and why you shouldn't see that movie. But don't most people already decide if they want to see the movie after watching the movie trailer? In most cases people enjoy movies that critics hate anyway, so what's the point? Who are they to tell us what we should or shouldn't enjoy?
