You're never too old to become a teacher. Teachers are teachers until the day they die. After 25 yrs. I still consider myself a teacher - and I started late like you. It was a great advantage. I had already been out there in the real world and my colleagues, younger in age, looked to me for guidance in many instances. If you have children of your own, you already know what children are like. You have an advantage in your college classroom as well. The prof will look to you to set the pace for the younger students. How to dress for a presentation on education - you won't be there in ripped jeans and a camie showing all you own. You will be in a special position all around if you take this seriously. Also, your experience in drama will serve you well in the classroom. Talk about acting! You are "on stage" the minute the kids walk into the room. You'll love it. Promise.

How to become a teacher?

I was just wondering if a person earns their B.A. in English, how could they use this to become an English teacher? I get mixed answers as to what a person needs to do to (some have said you need your teaching certificate which only takes a year(?), some have said you need to go back to school and major in education, some have said you need your Masters in teaching in order to do it... things like this). As I also said this is not for elementary education, but to be an English teacher. Can anyone clarify things for me?

You mean beyond speaking fluent Swedish and having a college/university education about the subject you want to teach (there are exceptions of course, like in language, it might be a bit difficult to have a PhD (it's just an example a PhD is not actually required.. depending on what level you want to teach, anyway I don't know many teachers with PhDs) in English xD) and the compulsory "teacher education" where you "learn" how to be a teacher, that's something everyone has to go. Well you have to prove that you are a qualified teacher but you don't even have to be a Swedish citizen apparently. If you're an educated teacher you won't have to start from square one which means at least 4.5 years of education. But as I said before you have to prove you're qualified. Ask at an embassy or something because I don't know how you prove it. Instead of getting a Swedish citizenship you can get a permanent working permit (or maybe it's a residency permit.. I don't remember which if not both) which shouldn't very difficult considering you live in Britain (meaning in the EU) and since you have a good education (I'm assuming you do anyway).
