Much more reasonable and economical to install an App that disables audio. If it were me, I would start here:

and write my own application that would detect when audio is being played, or detect a specific list of apps running (Music player, game, etc), __and set the volume to zero__.
Better yet, set the volume back to normal when headphones are plugged in. That way he learns to be cordial.

Device isn't destroyed, and ultimate control over the audio system being abused. But that's how I would go about it...

I would personally take it a step further, and include some scary audio sound effects, so that at 2am it plays a howling wolf or screaming girl. You know, for enjoyment purposes. lol :P

* If your stereo or MP3 player has a Volume Limiting System, use it. It will prevent you from damaging your hearing and prolong the life of your headphones


* Choose carefully when buying headphones. Sometimes the cheapest headphones are not the best and are more likely to break. Buy a good, recognized brand, and they should last for a long time.

Do one thing , every good pair of headphones come with 2 to 3 years warranty . You keep the bill and case of earphones intact , then whenever wire breaks pr problem comes, call the company sens them back and get new ones. I have been done this 3 times:) it works.
