How Can I Buy A Car At 16

Can a 16 year old buy a car...?

No. You can not legally enter in to a contract with anyone under 18. Not even if you have a co-signer. It's too much of a risk to banks because you can terminate the contract anytime if you feel like it since it wasn't a legal contract to begin with.

You can pay cash and buy the car though.

Can I buy a car if im 16?

You can legally buy a privately owned at. Your parents will have to sign for the insurance and title seeing that you are a minor. You can't go to a dealership and buy it without your parents signing all te paperwork, again you're not 18. You can give them the money but your parents do have to sign. Once you turn 18 the car can then be registered in your name.

How old do you Have to be to buy a Car in the UK?

i am a 15 year old, soon to be 16 in september, i am going to get a provisional licence, and after i get that i am thinking of buying a car, not to drive but just to chill in their (blast out tracks, chill with friends etc). I need to know the age of buying a car. And how old you have to be to get MOT done, and Road Tax and Insurance. P.s will i need insurance if i am not going to drive it? Also my mum and dad will not know that i got a car

Should I buy my 16 year old child car?

Buy something that is around $2k but isn't likely to break down in a few months, but if it does would be cheap to fix. Kids are more likely to get in wrecks, thats just a fact, I did when I was young. So tell them this is the one car they get and to take care of it and try to make it last into there college years.

Can i buy a car off Craigslist if im under 18?

Sure, you could purchase a vehicle, no problem there. However, you would not be able to register the vehicle in your name without insurance. And because you are 16 you are not eligible to purchase insurance coverage for a vehicle. So yeah, buy it, but it would have sit. There is no way it could be legally driven.

Can i buy a car in my name at age 16?

Yes, it's possible to buy a car (private owner) and put it under your name. But remember having cash to buy the car, you still would need to pay taxes for the car to change ownership, get the car smog (most likely), and car insurance.

In CA you can get a provisional / learner's permit at 15 1/2 however you cannot take the road test and advance to a driver's license until the age of 16. So we believe that age 16 would be the minimum age at which you could buy and register a car in California. If you are a minor that would like to buy a car you should check with the CA DMV to find out for certain if you would need a parent or guardian's to sign on contracts for the car and registration and title until you become an adult at age 18. Hope this helps!

If I buy and insure my own car as a 16 year old, should my parents be allowed to take it away?

You are not a legal adult. You will not be allowed to have insurance under your name, doubtful same for a car. If you buy one from a private owner who doesn’t care your under age, they could get in trouble and still will not be able to register it under your name. Now even if you could get one in some way, you’re still living at home, under age and your parents have all the legal control so yes they could take it away if they wanted to. It’s their property you live in and would park your car at.SO I hope you understand you cannot get a car until you are 18 and then register it, insure it and take care of it. So you will have to wait until you are 18 and have all the funds to pay for it.If you have any doubts on local laws, check both with your DMV and Insurance Agent.
