how would I go about getting a green card to live in the USA. I have heard from some people that I just need to apply for one, hand over a sum of money and there I go. I have heard others say I need to have a job and get my boss to apply and get me one, or be married to an American and have her apply to get me one. So what is the way to get a green card?

If you doubt it, you don't have to believe either one, and you can look it up for yourself at uscis.gov. If you file the petition before your son turns 21, the petition will take 5 to 7 years before it will become valid as an F2a, just as Fred says. If you wait until he turns 21, it will be an F2b and the wait will be considerably longer. However, he will have to remain single while waiting for the petition, or he will lose his eligibility.
