What should I do when my brother hits me?
My Indian brother is the same. He was verbally and physically abusive and has slapped, punched , kicked me; called me a 'bitch' and much much worse. I've cut him off from my life and my heart. I no longer speak to him or acknowledge that he is alive and do not consider him my sibling. Your parents are cowardly. The typical Indian parents who favor the son and indirectly shift the responsibility for his violent behavior on to your head. Mine were the same. It's NOT your fault. Your brother has mental issues and he is venting on you, using you as a punching bag. Your parents are NOT protecting you as they should. By blaming you and not rebuking your brother, they are reinforcing your brother's violent behavior. My advice is IGNORE and STAY AWAY from him. DO NOT let him hurt you physically. STOP talking to your brother. PRETEND that he does not exist. Keep your interactions with him minimal. If he tries to start an argument with you DO NOT engage him, ignore him, go to your room and lock the door. Study hard, get a job and move out.

Well, first thing's first: your brother is not a baby. He's getting older and he's going to experiment and push the boundaries, as is the nature of people. Don't lecture, don't be his "older" brother, be his friend and his mentor. Do activities with him that don't involve smoking weed, and pull him away from anyone who is influencing him, without explicity saying anything. Also contrary to popular belief marijuana is not a gateway drug. It can be, but it isn't. Show him love, friendship, companionship, understanding, trust and have an open mind. Listen to him, instead of talking. He's trying to find himself, and sometimes rebellion is a way that teenagers use to show autonomy. Understand that not every person is the same, and he is not an extension of yourself or your mother, he is an individual and treat him as such. Also some adult responsibilities might help him act more like an adult, and a good way to do that is do volunteer work together, and start asking about college and working and careers because maybe that way it'll show that you're interested and you care, and that might inspire him to care more about himself.

So my parents are away for work. My daddy will be gone till tomorrow so i'm with my 6 older brothers. My 3 oldest brothers are 23 19 and 21. They went out with friends and won't be back till about midnight. So i'm with my older 17 year old twin brothers and my 16 year old brother and some of their friends. Im 14. My brothers will drink my daddy's beer and smoke when my parents aren't home. They're outside drinking and smoking right now. And when i mean smoke its ciggarretts. Everytime i ask for one or some beer they don't let me have it. They know i drink and smoke on an occasion but they hate it. They become somewhat mean when they do it and it scares me when they do it. They have friends over and theyre all just being complete jerks. Haven't had dinner yet. my brother Brandon is refusing to cook. They told me that they just ordered a pizza but i can't have any. I hope they were joking cuz im anorexic and my brothers i hope would never starve me like that, there friends wouldn't let them do that either. it just bothers me a little how they get drunk i don't mind the smoking but they get wasted and it's not fun to deal with. How do i explain to them how i feel. I don't mind if they drink but drinking and getting drunk are totally different things! And i'm not reporting them! My parents let them drink on an occasion so they don't really care. They know they smoke to.

So my brother is turning 17 TOMORROW and I have no idea what to get him. He has absolutely everything he wants and need. He has a car, itouch, laptop, phone, and A LOT OF MONEY!!! So i dont want to give him a gift card or money because he wont appreciate it. He is barely ever home (or at least I never see him) because he goes to school before I wake up, when school ends goes to cross country practice, comes home and takes a shower(which is the 5 minutes I see him), then goes to one of my friends houses to tutor(by the way he loves that). By the time he getss home, im usually at tennis or dance, or he is doing hw locked up in his room. I consider him a nerd cause he has straight A's and is taking 5 AP classes. He has the number 2 GPA in his school, but he really isnt a nerd. He has a lot of friends and always has plans with them. I thought about getting him clothes, but come on he's a 17 year old guy, why would he want clothes when he already has a closet full of them. If it is possible to get him a girlfriend I so would. He is single and has never had a girlfriend. I mean my sister has had 2 boyfriends and she is 10. I have had 3 boyfriends and I am 13. Ok so please help me find him a gift! My grandparents are getting him a TV, and my other grandparents are getting him new running shoes. My parents also have no idea what to get him so they got him a GPS.
