How Can I Get Over My Fear Of People With Missing Limbs

What do you call someone who is missing all limbs?

My boyfriend insists individuals missing all four limbs are called quadriplegics, but I know that is not right. I cannot find the answer so I thought I would ask if anyone out there knows the correct terminology?

What do you call someone missing limbs?

If it's a man, and he is missing both his arms, and both his legs, then it depends on where he is. If he is:
Hanging on a wall, ART
In a ditch, PHIL
In a pool, BOB
On a bicycle, OTTO
On your front door step, MATT

I can go on like this all night.

My 9 year old daughter has an extreme fear of people with missing limbs or deformities. How can I help her?

There is a therapy approach called 'systematic desensitization" which id very effective for phobias -- and it does NOT cause the person to experience undue anxiety or fear. A behavioral therapist could do this. If you don't have access to a good cognitive or behavioral therapist, you *could* do something similar yourself, but you'd need to understand the process really well before you start to keep from reinforcing her fear. This should be your last choice, but it's do-able if she trusts you and you really understand the process. You'd also need access to a person with a limb missing.

A library may have a book on behavioral therapy techniques. The internet may also help. Again, I'd really, really recommend a competent, experienced therapist as a first choice. Best wishes!

How do i get over my fear of missing lay-ups?

Practice them until you puke, just constantly stick at them and soon enough before you even think of the pressure or consequences of missing you will have made it. I had this problem but just practiced till i dropped. You'll get over it with more time and experience.

What is your biggest fear about dying?

Though I don’t fear death within itself, because a mentally ill classmate when I was 13 plotted out 25 ways to kill me and some including raping and stabbing me (he got a police record, though because he was a minor I’m unsure as to if it stays permanently) I am HORRIFIED of someone killing me whilst I am asleep and raping me before I die.. I already was molested as a kid, and rape… I never could handle… instant suicide for me. That would be the end of everything for me. Rape, major stabbing and being homeless= automatic ways to the suicide of Kara Soylular (me).I am afraid of anyone I get close to out of anger (because my father abused me as a child when he got angry and used to speed in the car with me, through red lights, even and threaten to crash it in order to “stop” my tantrums) I am horrified of someone taking off in a car with me and crashing us both.. And that is my reasoning for not driving- because I have BPD, I do not trust myself in a car, because if I ever got as angry as my father whilst in it, I can endanger the life of others..I am afraid of people, Period. I am untrusting of everyone, including my own self. Unless I intuitively do not feel they are a threat to me (perhaps that is why I was gifted with such a strong intuition- to survive my trauma).. But even then, I even am afraid they can turn on me and stab me to death..I never will ever be able in trusting someone ever again. And I do not wish to ever be left alone with someone 1–1 in closed doors. I always would have to be in public.

Why do I hate disfigured people?

Diane, you are not a 'horrible' person. You merely have a phobia, that is more common than we would care to admit.
*Teratophobia*

One of the symptoms is Irrational fear of malformed people
You are not the only one to suffer from this phobia. Most sufferers are surprised to learn that they are far from alone in this common, although often unspoken, phobia.
Now that you know what it is, you can learn to understand it and deal with it rationally.
The most popular treatment for phobias is to see a psychologist,

Horror movie makers exploit the Teratophobia that resides in many of us.

How can I get over my fear of falling?

Ukemi (breakfalls) are the bases for styles such as JuJitsu, Judo and Aikido.
Forword Ukemi or Zenpo Kaitan aren't done over the head like a sommersault. They are over the shoulder and your head should never touch the tatame (mat).

Does your sensei have one of the other students go on their hands and knees and show you how to breakfall over their back? Try this... Have someone go on all 4s. approach from the side. If you are doing a right side breakfall your right leg should be at his belt not his head. then with your right foot forward reach over their back and around under neath them and get a grip on their gi lapel with your right hand. Place your left hand between their shoulders on their back then tuck your hed under their arm and roll over them. as you fall to the matt you bring your left arm down and slap it on to the mat. Do not let go with your right hand.

Do the same thing for left side only reverse everything.

Another thing is to stand with your right foot out in front of the leftone. Bend slightly at the knees, then bend forward and place both hands on the mat in front of you with the tips of your fingers from each hand facing each other. The right hand should be ahead of the left one. Then turn your head to the left and slowly begin to lean forward until you feel yourself off balance a falling forward, then kepping your head tucked in relax and allow yourself to roll on a angle over your shoulder. Your left hand should slap the mat and your legs should be apart not crossed when you complete the roll.
In the begining do not try to roll and stand up right away again just let your self stretch out on the mat.

Don't worry this is a very common thing for alot of beginers. It takes time but it will come. trust me in a few weeks you will be wondering what the issue was.
Also you should pick out another student whom is experienced and you trust, and ask them to work with you on the side before or after class or even during class if your sensei will allow. try to avoid using crash mats or thicker/softer mats to practice them as this will only make it more dificult later to feel comfortable doing them on harder mats. And you could get hurt easier trying to roll on them because they don't support your body.
