How did you get rid of bed bugs?

I am both a former certified pest control operator and a victim of bedbugs. You can get rid of them. When I lived in Delaware we had a caretaker that stayed over our home at night to take care of an ailing parent. She was great, but we did not know she lived in a seedy hotel. She infested our home. In our side business as exterminators, we hardly ever ran into bedbugs (mostly ants and termites). Bedbugs are a whole different ball game. Go to your big box store, or farm feed store, and get a 5 lb bag of Diatomaceous Earth. It isn't expensive, about $30. You must get FOOD grade. It is organic, though you should wear mask and goggles. Basically, when the little buggers crawl across DE, they get cut up and die. In our case, we did all the traditional things. We sprayed with commercial grade pesticide. We vacuumed, wrapped our mattresses, washed sheeting, yada yada yada. We kept getting them back. I have done extensive reaserch. Your CPO should be experienced in bedbugs. Also invest in a hand steamer. Extreme cold or heat will kill them. But DE is absolutely wonderful and the only thing that totally eradicated our bedbugs. Finis. My advice is
1. Get a CPO to spray at least twice. Make them do all of your furniture.
2. Vacuum well and frequently. Take the vacuum bag out of the house.
3. Don't cross contaminate rooms
4. Buy a hand steamer and steam woodwork, headboards, mattresses, any knook and granny you got
5. Lightly puff, poof, DE over everything let it fall and keep it down. It should look like you never dusted. Won't hurt pets. It is not a chemical, but if inhaled or gotten in eyes it could be abrasive. Keep it down as long as you can stand it. Put it in between your box spring and mattress, nightstands, behind light switches and outlets. If you have to vacuum for company, when they leave, put it back down. It will 100% eradicate your problem.

I use Bayer Advance home pest control, you can buy a gallon(with sprayer) of it in Lowes for about 8 bucks. My best friend had them in his kids room ans he said this stuff wipes em out pretty good but you have to keep up with vacuuming and spraying every 14 days or so. I did that and bombed. The Bayer stuff kills them on contact and if they crawl around it they die slow...I tested it on a few to make sure it works.

How do I get rid of bed bugs?

I have dealt with these pest before and lucky enough I was victorious.

Store pesticide you can purchase that I found actually worked on bed bugs was called Bug Stop made by Spectracide. You can purchase it at any Walmart or Home Improvement store.

Throwing away the mattress and box spring are ideal for a major infestation. Lucky enough I didn't have to. I purchase mattress covers to go over them. Keep away from having any clutter the bed bugs love clutter and that is where they will be found. They can get inside your wall sockets, inside picture frames, and any other wood furniture. The most common is where their food, you, sleeps though.

It may be best to contact an exterminator to handle the job if it is a big infestation. There is also a new technology developed where they can set up heaters inside your hold and make your home basically a oven. I saw that on television and seems like a great way to be sure to get rid of all of them.

Be sure to wash your clothes as they like to hop on you and take a ride to your friends and families homes. That is how they spread. Just throw your clothes you want to wear in the dryer for a few minutes should take care of it. Rent a steam cleaner and go to town on everything especially cracks and crevices. They can turn into quite the pain in the ***. Good luck!

Bed Bugs? And getting rid of them?

I think I have bed bugs. I noticed bumps on my bum a few months ago and thought it was maybe adult body acne. I changed my diet and body wash and it seemed to clear up. About the same time I started sleeping in a different bed but I didn't think that had anything to do with it. In September I began sleeping in my original bed again. In November I started noticing the bumps again. Now my boyfriend is complaining of bumps on his arms. They appear to be the same bumps. Bed bugs seem to make the most sense. I stayed in a hotel shortly before I noticed the first bump and assume that's where I got them. (And for those that think you have to be dirty and nasty to get them....think again! If this is what I have I got them from a Resort Hotel while staying in a $1500/night Presidential Suite!!!! No slum hotels for me)
How can I get rid of them? I have a Queen size mattress (no pillow top) and a feather topper. The feather topper says dry clean only but I can't afford to do so. Pesticides and Pest Control Services are not an option as finances are extremely tight. We are currently living off one income and there is NO room for anything like that. I have $30 to last 2 weeks....that covers gas, milk and bread. This HAS to be an at-home remedy. Please help! I'm so tired of itching!!!

What are the best ways to get rid of bed bugs? How do you deal with one’s clothes in this situation? What about dry-clean only materials, or books? Will walking around an infested area with shoes on mean that the shoes are now infested?

You CAN get rid of bedbugs, although it is an uphill battle, the tiny bloodsuckers got time and patience on their side, they can survive for verrrryyyyy long periods without food(your yummy blood)! You will find it easier to get rid of them if you sleep on beds which are like thisBut, if you have beds like this then you will have difficulties.Follow the below steps if you have bed with legstake empty cans (1 for each leg, I used small empty paint cans) and fill them half with water and a few drops of turpentine oil and put them under each leg, the leg should be in the water, so that bugs which are not already in your bed don’t climb up and oil is there to discourage the ones which dare to swim across the water.Use an insect spray on every nook and corner of the bed to kill whatever bugs are already hiding in the bed, this has to be done several times so that any left out ones gets killed too.Get a roll of shrink wrap and wrap your mattress with several layers, this is to prevent the eggs and baby bugs hiding in mattress to escape. Warning: It would be uncomfortable to sleep on a shrinkwrapped mattress, but less so than getting your blood sucked.Keep an eye on shrink wrap, it may get torn due to you sleeping on it (and doing other fun activities if you are a couple), if you see it getting torn then replace it with new wraps.Make sure your blankets do not fall on the floor while you sleep at night, if your bed is set against a wall then move it away so bugs don’t climb on the bed from the wall. That’s it, you need to wait for a minimum of 6 months, I recommend at least 1 year, keep refilling the cans with water(it will evaporate), refill the oil too, and keep an eye on the bugs, if they are still biting you at night then there is a leakage somewhere, they are either still there hiding in your bed or in the blankets or coming up from some other place, wear the detective gloves and get on the job to plug the hole.If the empty paint cans look ugly under the bed, get creative, wrap up some decorative paper or something like that. This is a cheap fix but doable, I spent nothing less than 10K USD to get rid of the bug infestation, it was all waste till I used the method above.Good Luck!
