How Can I Get Used To Getting Up And Dressed Every Week For School Especially In Cold Weather

Getting used to Seattle weather?

Some people can handle the wet and gloom without any problems, and some people can't. Those that can't never like it here and tend to not stay for very long.

Once you are here, things you can do to deal with it better:

1. Get outside. Spend some time outside most days. Real Northwesterners don't let a little damp stop them from their daily run, their beach BBQ or their pickup basketball game (most schools have courts that are outdoors, but under cover). In winter, get up in the mountains and ski.

2. If you are susceptible to SAD (seasonal affective disorder), you can get all spectrum lights that you can sit in front of for several hours per day (such as when you study) that can brighten your mood.

3. Dress for the weather. If you are used to warmer weather, then you'll need to wear sensible shoes (that can handle puddles and keep your feet warm), water resistant jackets and layers to adjust to the changing weather conditions.

4. Plan in your budget to get out of town to a warm sunny place. My family considers it part of the cost of living here. There are direct flights to Mexico, Hawaii and of course LA. In late spring eastern WA warms up and a few days there in April or May can keep you going until it warms up here.

As for the snow - we don't get that much. Whoever told you that Seattle is seriously snowy is mistaken. It only snows here a couple of times a year, and the kind of snow "event" like we got last week only comes around once every 5 years or so.

Why do some people get nose bleeds in hot weather?

I’m speaking from personal experience here. I suffer with the heat and get constant spontaneous nose bleeding. My father was the same. He had to have the blood vessels in his nose cauterised to stop the problem. I can’t stand the thought of the smell that must make to have it done. Yes, nose picking can cause issues of nose bleeds. But for me, a cough, straining with carrying things like heavy shopping, a sneeze, hot weather and high BP will all bring on a nose bleed from time to time. I have a few warnings though with blood pressure headaches and heat. With those I get a headache that I can’t shift with analgesics. With heat my nostrils become extremely dry and itchy. Simply bumping my nose results in a bleed. One nightmare memory fir me was being all dressed up in the costume made from one of my mother’s best dresses she’d cut down. Stood on a stage in front of the whole school and ready to narrate through the school play. My nose exploded in front of everyone with a huge cascade of blood down the front of my pretty dress! The shocked looks of horror as I was whisked off to the nurse still haunts me. I had a lot of sympathy with the movie Carrie!! So genetics also okay a part in nosebleeds. The capillaries are fragile in my family, we have Ehlers Danlos in our DNA.

Do schools and offices close when its too cold in Canada? If not, how do Canadians cope with it?

I live in Winnipeg where we experience one of the greatest ranges in temperature between summer and winter in the world. While summer temps can reach +40C, winter temps can drop to -40C without windchill (albeit not that frequently). To be honest, -20C, if there's no wind, isn't that bad. -10C is quite pleasant, it's all relative. In the city, school/work closures are rare and usually the result of a very heavy snowfall, not temperatures. When it gets too cold, schools have indoor recess instead of outdoors. Now, how do we cope with cold temperatures:Appropriate clothing. This includes well insulated coats, gloves/mitts, scarves, hats, and proper boots. Of course you always see that guy walking around in shorts in -40C weather. This is my favourite type of mitt, you can flip up the mitt part when you need finer control such as handling keys. I wear a lightweight pair of gloves underneath to protect my fingertips.Americans frequently ask if we all drive electric cars here because parking lots frequently have power outlets for each parking spot and they see plugs hanging out the front of our cars. No, we don't all drive electric cars, although some do, what we do have are block heaters. Block heaters serve two purposes, they make it easier to start the car in cold temperatures and they prevent the engine block from cracking.Synthetic oil. A lot of us use full synthetic oil which helps cars start and run better in the cold.Remote car starters. A lot of people, especially those who don't have enclosed garages, have remote car starters. One press of a button on a keychain remote allows people to start their cars from indoors. This allows the car to run for a few minutes to start warming up before you go out to your car.Swearing. No one has been able to establish why, but saying, ‘Fuck it's cold’, either as a shout or muttered under ones breath makes cold temperatures more bearable.

Is it normal to wake up for school during winter break? I woke up got dressed and rushed out the house for school but it’s the middle of winter break.

Yes its it's normal. Your mind and body are used to a routine. When that gets changed your mind and body still want to continue the routine. Since you are up and dressed go outside (if you are in a warmer climate) or go to the movies or something fun! Enjoy your Winter break!

Does anyone hate Spirit Week? (school)?

I used to skip that bull and smoke weed with my friends, not that you should, but I hated it too.

High school girls: do you dress up for school or bum?

I always make an effort to dress nicely unless I'm sick. It's not like I'm trying hard for anyone, it's just that I feel as if I'm most confident and willing to do my best when I'm looking and feeling my best. You'd be surprised, it really raises your confidence levels like wonders :) Actually, during finals week when everyone's in their pajamas and sweats, I always use every day to dress up. Why? When I look professional, I feel professional and I feel like it really helps me with test grades, projects, presentations, etc. But whatever you feel best in is fine! I admire some girls' ability to look pretty and cute while in sweats or yogas. I could never pull that off. lol

Does anyone wear sweatpants and hoodies to school?

i'm a junior in high school and i wear sweats like every other day. i dont see the point of getting dolled up to go to school. i mean in 10 years the time that you saved by just putting bummy clothes on instead of getting ready will come back at you and pay off. especially in the winter, its so cold
whatdya think?
