How Can I Increase Knee Flexibility For Dance

Why did I lose flexibility in my Knee?

I was pretty flexible at one point in my left leg. In my jiu jitsu class we always started off on our knees or in guard position, something similar to what this guy is doing http://www.the-fitness-motivator.com/images/shin_stretch.jpg. Then one day I decide to kinda go over my techniques since I couldn't make it to practice everyday because I have college classes. So now I'm standing on my knees going into the basic position and I can't sit back. My left knee is tightening up like if I continue to sit back my tendons and muscles in my knee are going to rip apart, don't feel a thing in my right knee just my left. Then when I stand up to my feet the back of my left leg feels tight for a sec then loosens up on its own. Anybody have the same experience and know why I lost the flexibility in my leg in less then a couple of days?

Is flexibility everything in dance??

Flexibility is the ability to achieve a full range of movements (i.e.: to turn, stretch, twist and bend) without any stiffness, aching or suffering a spine or joint injury. It's also known as suppleness.
It's important because it can reduce your chances of developing arthritis

Over the summer, you can join a yoga class because it involves stretching your muscles, which is a way of achieving flexibility. You'll also learn how to stretch them properly (stretching must be done SLOWLY - 10 to 40 seconds gives the connective tissues in your muscle enough time to lengthen)
Your flexibility will increase if you maintain this as a daily routine

Before doing any activity, you should stretch your muscles so that they'll be more relaxed and you'll perform with ease; stretch after doing the activity so that your muscles wouldn't be stiff.

Improve my flexibility!!! I dance ballet and im also in my school dance... My flexibility is hindering me from doing lots of stuff... I've been stretching everyday for like 2 months. I don't see any improvement for my front splits... Help!!! D:

How do you improve your flexibility for dance?

I have a stretching routine that has gotten me very flexible! I can now do all my splits without pain ( yay!)

Step 1- the strattle. Sit on the floor with you legs stretched to the side as far as you can. Bend down and try to touch your nose to your knee without lifting you butt cheek off the ground:) This should feel more like a back stretch; hold for 30 seconds. Cont. on for the middle and other side. Rep. each side twice.

Step 2 - the pike. From the strattle, move your legs inward so they are straight infront of you. Bend foward and hold for 30 seconds.

Step 3- the butterfly. From the pike pull your legs in and push your knees to the ground or as far down as you can. Hold for 10 seconds.

Step 4- the bridge. I bet you know how to do this lol:)

Step 5- Ok this one is a little confusing but it works wonders for the splits. So, stand on your hands and knees then take your hands off so you're just on your knees. Then bring one of your legs up so that both of your legs make a square. lean foward. This should stretch the inner thigh of the back leg. Next lean backward so that you stretch the front leg's hamstring. Hold for 10 seconds each. Rep. on next leg.

Next just slide as far into each split as you can and hold for a minute.

How to get flexible for dance?

Hi! im a dancer, but im not that flexible. Can you give me some stretches that will increase my flexiblitly in the legs and hips? My hips really restrict me from everything... when i kick my leg up it like pops and then when my leg comes back down it pops again it doesnt hurt but its annoying and behind my knees are really unflexible..so if you could give me some stretches for those things that would be great! thank you!!!!!!

hi i would really like to know leg stretches so i can kick higher , i have cp so my flexibility is limited . i do go to the gym alot but i dont really know good stretches for my legs. my hamstrings are so unflexible that my knees are bent all the time .
