Metronidazole is used to treat a wide variety of infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and micro-organisms called protozoa. These types of organisms often cause infections in areas of the body such as the gums, pelvic cavity and abdomen because they do not need oxygen to grow and multiply. It is commonly prescribed to treat an infection called bacterial vaginosis. It is also prescribed before gynaecological surgery and surgery on the intestines, to prevent infection from developing. Metronidazole can safely be taken by people who are allergic to penicillin.Metronidazole is also used to get rid of Helicobacter pylori (a bacterial infection often associated with stomach ulcers).Metronidazole is available as a skin preparation also. Can taking an antibiotic make a rapid strep test come back negative?

I am certain that I have strep. It is the 4th time in 6 months. I started taking soem of my hubby's antibiotics yesterday to see if I could avoid goign to the DR again....well, this morning it was even worse. SO, I went to the DR and the test came back negative! I didn't tell him that I was taking the antibiotics from my hubby.....oops...
anyhow, I have the white patches, swollens tonsills, etc...this DR was a total quack for thinking that all I needed was a controlled substance to help relieve the pain! I think he needed to prescribe me a z-pack.....whichwould actually work.....what do you think?

Is the strep throat virus aerobic or anaerobic?

everyone else who's answered is right: it's a bacteria, and aerobic (like about 90% of bacteria out there)...
