Are there nice people in New York? How hard is it to make friends?

I lived in San Francisco before moving to New York last year, so I can probably speak to this.First off the myth - there’s lots of nice people in New York! But just like anywhere else there are also bad characters who are mean. In terms of difficulty, I think it’s just a nature that many people move to New York temporarily - so it’s difficult for most people to slow down, enjoy time together, and connect patiently.Start with the lowest hanging fruit - reach out to friends who already have friends in NYC! Takes no effort or burden for you to quickly get some names to meet.I balance that out with Greet (https://www.heygreet.com/) to branch out new mix of people, especially since I think surrounding myself with new people is beneficial for my well being and keeps me finding good people to be around.Greet does a really amazing job of matching people who are looking to develop connections with 3–4 curated people each week and discuss interesting conversation topics that they propose. They have an application system, so if you have something interesting to bring to the table, be ready to meet some of the smartest folks here.I also use EventBrite or Meetup for great events here and there, but just know that most people are going with friends they already know, not necessarily there to meet new people.

How can I make friends at new job?

I disagree with Margaret. If you are asking this is because you have a social personality and you need that "connection" with co-workers and you care. You spend more time at work than home, and it is true, you are there to work but...isn't it better to work in a friendly environment? My humble advice is... try and take the initiative. Smile and say Hi! when you arrive at work, ask them how was their weekend, approach them at the kitchen and tell them their food smells great, ask for their families, say "good bye" when you leave. Don't wait for them. Try to make it personal. And of course, at establishing that connection, you need to share something about you. It may sound like you are making a "small talk" but that will tell them you are willing to connect and they will be more receptive and will pay attention to you. You will see things changing. People in general are nice and want to be nice. Hope this helps.

How do I become friends with new group of people?

To become friends with a new group of people, you need to first find what the group likes, dislikes, how they like to spend their weekends, etc. Find out if you will fit in this group. If you still want to become friends with this group, do the below:1. Target 1 person: Find the 1 person in the group who is the easiest to make friends with. This person would be the one who will introduce you to the rest of the group. Approaching the entire group and trying to become one of them will not create a good first impression. and once you leave, the group will talk ill about you.2. First impression: Approach this person and start having small conversations. Remember, this person is the easiest to strike a conversation with. So be confident that you will be able to make a good first impression.3. Be patient: Get into more conversations over a period of time. Remember, to not rush.4. The induction: Slowly you will see that this person would invite you over to the group and introduce you to the others.5. Spend time and commit: Now it is easy. You are part of this group, but still not friends with everyone in the group. Take part in their conversation and spend time with this group. With time and commitment, you will become friends with this group. Thanks for the A2A.

How do I make friends in New York?

Start with what’s the easiest - reach out to friends who have friends in NY, the power of mutual connection is strong! Then find out who they hangout with in NY. Easiest way to extend your social graph quickly.I balance that out with Greet (https://www.heygreet.com/) to branch out new mix of people, especially since I think surrounding myself with new people is beneficial for my well being and keeps me finding good people to be around.Unlike Eventbrite or Meetups, they don’t overwhelm you in a sea of strangers. Greet does a really amazing job of matching people who are looking to develop connections with 3–4 curated people each week and discuss interesting conversation topics that they propose. They ask some great life questions that made me question the things I was doing - truly a great group of people who aren’t slacking around. I’ve met some of the smartest friends here and we do go out to events together even outside of their system. It also has a rematching system to help build familiarity over time, so it makes it literally easy for you to make new friends. Assume you do make it a habit to go each week, meeting 3 new people each time, within a year you’ll add 156 new connections. And that’s not even counting the dope rooftop events they host where you can meet familiar and new people!

How do I make new friends in a new city?

One way to combat loneliness and to make friends in a new place is to, well, start your own party! If you throw a party someplace you’re bound to make all kinds of new friends. Plus, you get to be in control of all the variables so it will be easier to meet people when you are the host for this fabulous event that everybody has come to. Maybe you organize an after work social hour at your place or you invite a bunch of people you vaguely know but aren’t really friends with out to dinner. Either way, taking that initial first step will go a long way. All kinds of people go to coffee shops — students, professionals, artists, business owners, etc. Coffee shops usually attract a pretty diverse crowd, and it’s relatively easy to ask a person what they are doing, especially if what they are doing is something you’re interested in. When you roll into a social event, happy hour or whatever it is, always say that you just moved here. That’s always a great ice-breaker/door opener, because people will ask where you came from, what you do now, etc, and they will key you into all of the fun, amazing things there are to do around town. Some people are really nice that way.
