How Can I Prepare For My Xc Meet In Two And Half Weeks

How can i prepare for track and field?

i'm going into 8th grade, in 9th grade i want to do track and field, year round, how can i prepare for sprints, cross county, and just generally improve my running within the next year? (a rough sketch weekly schedule would be AMAZING)

Can a 15 year old run a half marathon?

Since you are on the school team I suggest you ask your coach if you should do this and if so when. Running a HM during your school season is a bad idea; the training for that distance is different than that for the usual scholastic distances (e.g. 5k XC, 800m, 1500m, 3200m track races). The race itself will require enough recovery to effect your season negatively. The coach might suggest you not race that distance or might agree it's okay to do in the off season. The longest off season races I did in high school were 10k. I made a huge mistake going into my final season of XC by doing a fund raising 24 mile run a week or two before our first meet. It took me until mid-season to recover. Had I raced a hard HM the result would have been similar; too much muscle damage and not enough recovery time before the hard XC races started. I ran my first HM as a 19 year old college frosh after the track season ended. Personally I don't see the hurry in young kids and teenagers moving up to those distances. Work on speed endurance for those mid-distance races and it will pay off when and if you move up to longer distances. In other words, go old school and work on getting faster rather than racing longer just for the sake of going longer.Health wise, unless you have symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, joint pain or any other worry the American College of Sports Medicine advises a physical exam is not necessary. When in doubt, ask your doctor but in general exercise is safe.

Why can’t I get any faster in the 1600 meter run?

I am a freshmen long distance track athlete, and by no means am I going to say I have a lot of experience in the sport but I do know a thing or two about improvement.I started off my freshmen running career June of last year. On the first week of practice we did a 3200m time trial. That being my first week of running as a sport, I ran a 15:11. Obviously an outrageously poor time.Ever since that week I worked my ass off to get better. Even on “recovery” days I would push myself. No run was easy. I pushed myself to the extent of injury. I was out with a stress fracture in the foot for 3 weeks. When I came back into action, I continued the battle. At the start of the XC season we did another 3200m time trial and I ran a 12:49. In less than two months I was able to cut 2 and a half minutes from my two mile. At this point I knew all I had to do in order to get better was to continue to work my ass off. 6 weeks into the season I landed myself in two months off running thanks to a stress fracture on my femur. Winter came along and so did my ability to run.Every day since December 3rd I have been increasing my mileage, intensity, and looking after my body for injury prevention. Just last week I ran a 10:30 3200m, and 3 weeks ago ran a sub 5 minute mile for the first time. Why can’t you get faster? Well that could be one of many things. First, the most likely reason, is that I’m guessing you are not reaching your full potential each practice. You may think you’re trying your best, but long distance running is not about going through the motions. Indeed, I wasn’t looking after my body when I got those two stress fractures, but what I was doing was pushing my limits. Don’t know how to get motivated? Be competitive. Dream about your goals for running and strive to achieve them. If you don’t have that drive, you’ll never be a successful athlete. I understand it’s more difficult to improve as your times get lower, but how do you think today’s Olympians got to where they are now?The second possible reason is iron deficiency. Many runners suffer from this, so I recommend you get checked. If you’re not getting enough iron in your diet, you may be feeling like you got a lack of energy. In fact, one of my fellow teammates is getting checked this week because he hasn’t been performing as well as he used to recently. There could be other reasons, but I’ve basically outlined the the two most plausible explanations.Good luck and keep running.

Have you ever ran a half marathon before? Would you or could you?

I have. My first half-marathon was a little over a month ago.It was the national half-marathon championship race of where I live so I figured I’ll have a go at it, especially since some of the athletes of my age in my running club already raced a half.My training was more geared towards 5k’s and 10k’s but my mileage was decent (40 mpw/65 kpw) and I’d run the half distance (and then some) twice before that race as long runs. Therefore, I had the distance memorized in my muscles pretty well by then. The race went extremely good for a first-timer and I can definitely recommend this distance as a way of challenging yourself without committing yourself too much like for a marathon. Right now I’m in no shape to run a half since today I competed in the State XC school meet (5k distance), so I’m still recovering. However, given the proper amount of rest and training, I’ll be sure to find another half marathon and try to improve my PR. Halfs are fun!

Is this a good 3-mile (Cross Country) time? ?

Hey, I'm a sophomore in high school in XC, 15 yrs. old. Do you think 17:02 is a good 3-mile time? I did soccer last year, so this is my first year of XC. Just wonderin' how I'm doing compared to everyone else :)

and is it possible to get a 16:40 by the end of the season? 4 weeks left

I'm overweight, but I really want to join Cross Country.?

All my life, I have hating running. However, I've been determined to lose weight since the beginning of the year, so I started running right before summer. It wasn't much, but it was a good pace for me. I also kind of enjoyed it. I had a good feeling after the jog/run, and it gave me the opportunity to listen to my music without interruption.

Lately, I've stopped my running routine due to a long-term guest and vacations. I'm starting back up with she leaves, which will give me about 21 days to prepare for XC season. I will be a sophomore in high school.
My problem is that I have a terrible endurance, and I'm terrified that my weight will hold me back. I hate it when people watch me exercise and I get really self-conscious.
Also, I'm worried the coach won't cut any sort of slack to my beginner status and make me run tons of miles when I simply can't (yet).

Should I try out for XC? Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Advice?

Why am I not improving in Cross Country?

in distance steady improvements are just as common as random bursts of improvement. for example, i hadn't run a 2-mile race under 14 minutes and i was hoping to break 14 soon, when suddenly in a race where i expected to break 14, i broke 13, and had a time of 12:58. during the same season, my brother had been hoping to break 11 in the 2 mile that season but had barely gotten down below 11:30 (maybe not at all, i don't remember). in the very last race of the season, he got down to 11:05.

you may keep running without a lot of improvement for a little while and then all of a sudden take a full minute off. don't be discouraged! also, running is a life sport, and you don't have to take in competitively. just keep running and it will keep you healthy and strong. don't quit because your times aren't what you hoped they would be.

also, after you make a big improvement, theres always room for more! i'm hoping to break 12 this season!
