You need to find out what type of glue you are trying to remove and make certain that you don’t destroy the fabric in the removal process. When using solvents, do a test on a small area that won’t show.Make sure you have clean lint-less (preferably cotton) rags, and a clean stiff bristle brush.Some PVA glues dissolve in warm ammonia and can be gently scrubbed clean with a brush.Some glues can be removed by soaking the glued portion in a strong very warm solution of TSP (tri-sodium-phosphate) until the glue softens and begins to dissolve. How can I remove highlighter marks from the used book?
Seems like it would take a really long time to erase all the highlighter marks in a book, even if you had a way to do it. I guess what I'd do is to use a different colored highlighter, then just highlight the parts *I'd* want to mark as important then try to ignore the other highlighter color. Most solvents and abrasives you'd use to try and erase the highlighter would probably also seriously erode the text, but some inks are susceptible to heat and fading, so I guess you could try putting the whole book in the oven to see if that would lighten the highlighter (I'd certainly try that on a page you didn't care about first though... perhaps a facing page... but do use the same paper). Btw, the paper wouldn't actually burn till it reached about 450 degrees so no problems there, though there could be paints or glues on the cover or holding the pages together that could soften. I guess you could also try (diluted) bleach... that might weaken the paper but may not affect the text ink as much as the highlighter ink. If the highlighter ink is blue, you could photocopy the pages (and the blue wouldn't show up or would be very light), but that would be a lot of work for many pages. Glass is easily broken. Everyone has had glass break and if it were a “bad omen” there would be badness over the face of the earth! Of course if you are superstitious and the glass happens to be a mirror you supposedly would have 7 years of bad luck. I have broken many mirrors and even more glass in various forms and have never had anything untoward happen to me. But then I don’t believe in omens. Glass can be easily smashed and in the Jewish tradition the groom stomps a goblet during the wedding to ensure something or other - can’t even remember what but it is tradition!
