How Can I Tell If I Have Sinuses Or If I Have A Tension Headache

Sinus/Tension Headaches?

I went to the doctor yesterday about 2 weeks worth of headaches, congestion, nausea, and dizzy spells. Anyway, he checked all of my body signs and reflexes, and said that he thinks that it is my sinuses and could be a sinus infection, and that sinusitis was causing my headaches. He gave me an antibiotic, a strong decongestant, and a strong headache medicine. I am scheduled to go back in a month for a checkup on this, cause if it hasn't gone away, he is going to get an MRI on me.

The medicine seems to be working. My congestion is far less and my headaches have subsided alot to almost gone after one day of medicine. Is this a good sign? I believe him, but I do tend to worry about things. Also, if you have tension headaches, is it common to find tight, achy spots around your head, like trigger spots? When my head has hurt, I can usually find the specific spot, rub it/massage it, which is really sensitive, and that tends to make it feel a lot better. Thanks.

Tension headache or Sinus headache?

.I've been having this "problem" DAILY for almost a year now. Here are the following symptoms and important things to note. I am a 20 year old male.

- "Pressure" type of feeling INSIDE of my skull. Sometimes it feels like it's on the back of my head, sometimes on the top, and sometimes behind/inside my forehead. This pressure allows me to move the muscles on the back of my head and essentially making my ears move as well. I was never able to move my ears until this "pressure" appeared.

- My forehead seems to be really tense and i can't relax them. It's even causing me to slowly develop wrinkles because it forcefully makes me frown (slightly).

- I can make popping sounds inside my ears, it sounds louder on the right ear. My ear also starts ringing out of nowhere once in a while.

- Constant quiet ear ringing (tinnitus?). I can hear it inside my head constantly but its very quiet

- My nostrils feel blocked (always worse on the right nostirl). I get no discharge of any sort. I sneeze 1-3 times a day (which could be normal since it's kinda cold these days). As a matter of fact, everything on my right side of the face feels worse. My right eye is droopier, my right nostril is more blocked, my right ear has a louder pop

- Massive pressure on my eyes. They look and feel VERY droopy and heavy. Sleeping more seems to help. No allergy-like symptoms like tearing or redness.

- Hard time falling asleep. My body will feel very worn out but my head just doesn't feel sleepy!

It's been going on consistently for over a year, DAILY. Sleeping more seems to make the symptoms a bit better (atleast with the tired eyes problem).

A while back i went in for a HEAD CT and MRI. They searched for any "big" conditions like meningitis and such. I'm not sure if they bothered to watch for the sinuses since it was a HEAD scan and not SINUS scan. And i believe tension headache's can't be detected on those scans either. The doctors weren't sure of the cause. One doctor said it was tension headache, and the other said it was a sinus infection or some sinus problem.

I'm having insurance problems so i won't be able to see a doctor for a few months. I just wanna find out what the problem is so i can plan ahead

Headache? Sinus or allergy? Tension?

I have been having horrible headaches for about 4 months now. The headache is dull pressure at the top of my nose and lower forhead mainly. I have been to an ENT doctor and he took a ct scan and said that my sinuses look ok. He did say that my adenioid looks enlarged but that does not usually cause head aches. it is getting really annoying! it feels like someone is constantly pressing on my head. Any ideas>? i have tried claritin and tylenol and advil with no benefits!

What causes sinus headache?

Sinuses are small, air-filled spaces in the skull that serve to reduce the weight of the head on the neck. Sinus headaches are usually caused by infections such as the common cold or the flu. It gives the feeling of having a ‘heavy’ head. The symptoms of a sinus headache include pain or pressure around the nose, cheeks, and forehead, throbbing pain around the face, a feeling of heaviness of the head, nasal congestion, worsening of pain when bending forward or back, fatigue, etc.Sinus headaches are mostly caused by an infection of the sinuses (sinusitis). Or due to allergies that irritate the sinus cavities.Sinus headaches are similar to migraines in some respects and this often leads to misdiagnosis. If you have persistent or severe sinus headaches, you should get it checked by a doctor to make sure it is in fact a sinus headache and not a migraine or other disorder.

How to get rid of a tension headache?

What is the best way to get rid of a tension headache when the normal remedies don't work ... advid, excedrin ex-strength, tylenol .. etc. 3 days now!! went to dr. said it was tension

Sinus Headache AND Tension Headache symptoms???

I have tension headache symptoms - band like pressure, pain in back of head with neck and shoulder aches, temple and sides ache - feels better when massaged.

I also have sinus pressure, earache - Dr says my sinus cavities are inflamed, but still not sure why the back of my head will sometimes hurt along with neck and shoulders - can sinus pressure cause this too, or am I handling two different headaches?

OTC's don't really work except BC Powder - kinda. Heat, steam, and hot showers are the main reliefs for me.

- about 10 days now
- No fever or other neurological problems
- taking prescribed flonase
- pain is never more than a 4/10 at the worst

How can I cure my bad sinus headache?

Over-the-counter painkillers. Drugs like acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or naproxen sodium may help. Always read and follow the label, and don't use them for more than 10 days at a time without talking to your doctor.Decongestants. These medicines, which you can buy without a prescription, help open your blocked sinus cavities. They do this by curbing the swelling and mucus in your nasal passages.Follow the instructions carefully. You shouldn't use nasal decongestant sprays for more than 3 days in a row, or it could make your congestion worse. And don't use oral decongestants for more than 7 days. If you also take a pain medicine, make sure the decongestant doesn't have it as well, so you don't accidentally get too much.Nasal steroid sprays. In some cases, your doctor may prescribe these sprays and other drugs to reduce your congestion and pain.Antihistamines. These drugs may help if allergies cause your sinus problems.Think moist. Dry air can irritate your sinuses, so use a humidifier or vaporizer. Other options include holding a warm, wet towel over your face for a few minutes or using a saline solution nasal spray.Use salt water. Get a bulb syringe or neti pot and flush out your sinuses with salt water. It moistens and helps clear mucus from your nasal passages, which cuts down on the pressure.
