How can I tell if my iPhone has been backed up recently?

If you are using iTunes, the summary page for your iPhone will tell you the time and date of your last backup.If you are backing up to iCloud, on your iPhone go into Settings -> iCloud -> Storage -> Manage storage, and you can see the date of the last backup.

My parents have said that I am no longer allowed to have my iPod Touch in my room anymore. I don't think this is reasonable. Why have they done this?
