Are there any earplugs that completely shut out sound?

Not that I know of, and I’ve worn them for years off and on—snoring husband, living near highway construction (pile driving for a major bridge), working nights.Look at the bottle of earplugs in the pharmacy. It will show you how many decibels it will cancel. 32 - 35 is VERY GOOD for reusable foam ear plugs. I’ve found that it cuts annoying noises down to a level where I can get some sleep. They won’t eliminate the noise of a pile driver 1/2 mile away.Because I hate to spend lots of money on a single pair, as they’re easy to lose, there may be more expensive ones that work better. But check the decibel cancelling level when you buy and that should give you a n idea of how effective they are.

What are some comfortable ear plugs for musicians?

Baby Earplugs?

We just attended a wedding over the weekend, and brought our 6 month old son. I was worried about the music being too loud too. Thankfully when it came time for the music, it was nap time. I put him in his stroller and cradled a blanket around the back of his head to cover the ears. I was careful to make sure it wasn't a suffocation hazard. I also sat the furthest away from the speakers, near the exit. I don't think there is such a thing as baby earplugs, if there are, I wouldn't use them. Dr.s say you shouldn't put anything smaller than your elbow in a baby's ears...(Im sure you are thinking the same thing I did when I heard that.)

How can you wake yourself up with an alarm if you're wearing earplugs?

I wear rather effective 32dB foam earplugs:  Howard Leight LL1 Laser Lite Earplugs no Cords (200 ct) - Amazon.comI couldn't find anything better than that, especially comfortable enough to be able to sleep in.  They easily let me sleep with the windows open in Manhattan.  I set the alarm on my T-Mobile myTouch phone to max volume.  It wakes both me and my fiancee every time, because it's a lot closer to us than any sounds through the window.  There are limits to what earplugs can do.However, if I'm only running on 3 hours sleep, sometimes the alarm wouldn't work even without the earplugs.  When in college, my roommate had seen me sleepwalk over to the alarm, shut it off, and go back to sleep.  There are some goofy inventions to make this sort of thing more difficult for your sleepy self to pull off:  Amazon.com: Clocky Alarm Clock On Wheels, Aqua: Home & Kitchen ...In general, I'd say just test a simple solution first and use what reasonably loud alarm clock you have and keep it close to your head.

Can I sleep with earplugs?

Sleep is vital to your overall health, and approximately 30% of the world’s population isn’t getting enough of it. When you have trouble sleeping due to ambient noise, earplugs for sleeping are a great solution. This ear plugs are made for comfort, with a softer and more flexible material so they can be worn all night long without irritation.I have used ear plugs for many many years. I just got whatever was on sale at the local drug store. It took me awhile to get used to them and now I can't ever sleep with out them even when there is no noises. I got so used to the vacuum feeling you get and complete silence. The last ones I bought were the only bulk ones on sale and they were ok until my roomates started snoring louder due allergies, etc. So I decided to research ear plugs for the highest decibel rating not even thinking comfort was an issue.I figured I would do a side by side comparison. At first I did not like this one as I didn't get that vacuum seal feeling and preferred the another one until they were hurting my ears. I noticed with most of the ear plugs I have gotten they would eventually hurt my ears. So I decided to go back the this one. Now I can't live with out these! After getting over the vacuum feeling I noticed it was still quiet and these were so soft and have yet to hurt my ears and I have been using them for some months now.No ear plug will completely drown out the snoring spouse but these definitely do not make me wake up in the middle of the night and make me want to go sleep on the couch. And no more sores in my ears from uncomfortable ear plugs!

Are custom earplugs effective?

Custom ear plugs can be better than disposable foam or reusable ear plugs in the way they fit your ears, and in that they are easier to insert and remove than are other kinds of ear plugs. In addition to ease of use, they also are far more reliable than are universal fit ear plugs, because they simply always fit like they should. Custom ear plugs do not depend on the particular way in which you happened to get them inserted on a particular day as do universal fit ear plugs. Universal fit ear plugs often provide as little as half their rated level of protection, because they were improperly inserted. (Here is how to do it properly: Video: How to Properly Fit a Foam Ear PlugThat said, custom ear plugs can never give you the same level of hearing protection as you can get from cheap disposable foam ear plugs, provided you get the foamies properly and deeply inserted in your ears. The reason for this difference is that the ear plugs are made of silicone or vinyl materials that are solid, as contrasted with foam ear plugs which are made of PVC or UF foam which contains thousands of encapsulated air bubbles which very effectively block sound from passing through. You can expect to realize an NRR of 29 dB for the best fitting custom ear plugs vs. an NRR of 33 for the best fitting disposable foam ear plugs. The primary benefits of custom ear plugs are ease of use, consistent performance in blocking noise, and over time, a lower cost per use. The latter assumes you will use your ear plugs hundreds of times over a year. For the occasional user, custom ear plugs rarely are the most economical choice. If you want to try custom ear plugs for yourself, we offer several do-it-yourself custom ear plug kits that are quite inexpensive, and a great way to experiment before you shell out the big bucks for a set of lab made custom ear plugs.
