How Can Mobile Phone Carriers Know That I Am Creating A Wi-fi Hotspot Out Of Their Service

Can a mobile phone hotspot replace my usual WiFi internet service?

You have MetroPCS. If you have their unlimited data plan at $60 a month, you get 8 GB of hotspot. Each additional GB is $5. If you are going to be using your hotspot as your home internet source, then streaming on a device (like your smart tv) or playing video games or computer games is gonna eat up your data real quick; especially if more than one person that will be using that as a source of internet.By the way it's gonna be much slower than internet provided by the cable provider. Example: Comcast’s 50 Mbps compared to your hopeful 6 Mbps; so games are gonna be laggy, and streaming on your TV might have to be reduced to shit resolution to conserve data and not be constantly buffering. With MetroPCS on their $60 unlimited plan you actually get 28 Gbs of 4G LTE and 8 Gbs hotspot and that's only when the network isn't congested because T-Mobile customers take priority over MetroPCS customers. When the network is congested you go down to their EDGE network which is below 3G speeds. This is all assuming you have their most expensive plan. If not you get much less 4G LTE speeds on your phone for a month and much less data for hotspot use.I don't know your financial situation but if you are low income or have food stamps many internet companies provide low cost internet. They don't advertise much, so you have to really look for it on Google, if you call the internet provider the sales rep probably will not know of the program (as many of the ‘customer service’ numbers you call are sales reps from third party companies, these reps don't make commission on these sales so they often don't know of the program)I know AT&T if available in your area will provide internet for $5 or $10 a month if you qualify for even one dollar worth of food stamps. I use thisfor my home. The number to speak to a representative that is trained about the program is 1-855-220-5211.Hope this helped.

Can I use my phone as a mobile hotspot to get WiFi for my tablet?

YES, you can DO it!!! Mobile device can not act as a wifi repeater so that it can be a wifi hotspot device, but doing some geeks with a awesome Android Apps it can be done…Also it is not required to root your device..what you have to do? You have to install an App “Netshare” from Google Play store there after open it, it will generate a Network ID and password, use this to connect to other devices..Its so easy.. you may also refer here for practical demonstration:How To Make Your Phone Into A WiFi Hotspot [NO ROOT]Like it ?thanks !!!

What is a robust, mobile solution for internet/WiFi hotspots in areas with weak carrier coverage?

I would first consider multiple carrier hotspots. Often one is stronger in an area than another, so perhaps having 2 or 3 hotspots available might work.If not you could look into satellite based service, but the latency will be higher & I suspect you may find it cost prohibitive. In a specific rural area you might also be able to find a radio based ISP, but I think most of those are fairly localized and I only seem to hear of them out in the country.Let me know what you find!

How to use my cell phone as a wifi hotspot?

Update: My cell phone is a 6 year old Nokia 1112; service through Tracfone. Not a smartphone. I don't see any settings remotely related networking.

Why do mobile network operators disable personal hotspot creation on prepaid SIM cards?

All mobile operators do not do this. In fact, I have never experienced it on prepaid service anywhere…not to say that you have not.Further, personal hotspot creation is not disabled “on the SIM”; it is typically in the firmware of the phone that does a query of your data record in the carrier’s database to see if tethering/hotspot is allowed. On my last AT&T subsidized phone (postpaid service), while I had my account set for unlimited data (a legacy account), that phone would not let me turn on hotspot. I could put my SIM in an open-market phone and the tethering would work.It turns out the AT&T-spec firmware in the subsidized phone includes a hook that checks my account for “hotspot allowed” whenever I activated the hotspot. To put this to the test, I put a SIM from another carrier into the subsidized phone (that account allows hotspot) and activated the hotspot….no joy. If the phone (not the SIM) does not get a positive response on its query for “hotspot allowed”, no hotspot. And since I was not using the AT&T SIM, there would be no matching customer record for me, if the query even made its way to AT&T in the first place.I eventually decided that having the hotspot was more imortant than unlimited data (that is sort of overrated, at least for me…I am not streaming music or video on my phone). I switched to a decent sized data plan based on my actual historical usage plus some extra, now my tethering works on either the subsidized or non-subsidized phone.

What is the best mobile wifi hotspot available right now?

1, In my opinion there is no objective way to state One service is absolutely "Best" simply because not all Services are available everywhere or the Coverage may be lacking in a Fringe Area of an otherwise Great Service. Also, be aware that several Services while having the Different Corporate Names use the Same Cell Network(For example Virgin Mobile and Net Zero use Sprint's wireless network). This said I will point you in the direction of several companies that offer "Generally" reliable coverage with varying price ranges.

#2. Virgin Mobile Broadband2Go offers No Contract monthly rates of $35.00 for 2 GB, $55.00 5 GB and if you buy the hotspot device from Walmart--a special $20.00 for 1 GB.

#3. Verizon Broadband is one of the more Expensive Services but is quite reliable.

#4. Clear appears to be on par with Virgin Mobile in terms of prices and services

#5. Netzero---is now in the Wireless Broadband market. The company was well known for its cheap dial up back in the day...Currently, the prices appear to rival Virgin Mobile

Can I use Roku with my iPhone hotspot?

Though I've never done that, your WiFi hotspot should be able to handle that. As a caveat, however, you have to realize the huge amount of data you'd be streaming. Although your phone service says, “unlimited,” they may throttle you back to something unusable after 20gb or so. I have 5 bedrooms with Roku in all of them. The average usage here with an average watch time per month at just under 2 hours a day per TV is around 185Gb per month according to my usage meter on my router. There is a small amount of usage through computers, but before I got Roku the total usage was under 18Gb per month. So, be advised that you may get a few days of TV then it could be too slow to be useful. Check with your carrier. The other possibility is that the ports for some video services could be blocked by the carrier by default. Seen it happen with some VoIP services, though they're not supposed to do that. If that were the case, you just have to let them know to unblock any closed ports that might be involved in delivering the Roku video to you. Don't this would happen, but you never know.
