How Can My Bmi Say Im Underweight But My Fat Percentage Nearly Be Over

If my BMI is borderline overweight, but body fat percentage is in healthy zone, am I overweight?

Scrap that crappy BMI. It’s no good to you. I just did it on NHS website and it shows nuisance. Why? Because it’s not about what it says on the screen. It’s about how you look and how you feel. It says my weight should be between 56–76kg and it would be right if I sat all my day long on my bum in the office and didn’t move. But if I go to the gym or cycle or whatever, this BMI is skewed so much that it doesn’t make sense anymre. Now it tells me I have to eat 2098–2697kcal a day. If I ate that amount, I would be overweight and obese in no time. And I mean a fatty fat one. My calories intake cannot be more than 1600 kcal now. If I do have more, which I actually do, my belly gets bigger and that’s normal (not just belly in real-life)How do I know this? I have controlled my weight in a sine wave for quite a while and I still do this. I was at 60kg then moved to 82kg, then back to 70kg, then up to 92kg, then back to 69kg, then up to 72kg, then 77kg, then 82kg, then back to 76kg, now it’s 82.5kg. It’s all in 5–6 years time. And it’s not that I do eat anything. I do eat anything till I reach a point where I can’t stand myself in such a body shape, then I go on diet (not the half spoon one) and get myself up to my standard OK quality and then let my lifestyle go back to what it was again. And do it again and again and again. Once you did it right, it’s quite simple to rinse and repeat. Though it takes quite a nerve to stop your habits for a while.

BMI in the 1st percentile (16.7). Am I really underweight?

Yes, you are considered very severely underweight by BMI. However, BMI is not completely accurate, as it does not distinguish between fat and lean mass (body mass other than fat — muscle, water, bones, etc.).

You can calculate your body fat percentage at https://sites.google.com/site/calculatey... . If you are underweight by body fat percentage, you should gain fat, and if your minimum weight by body fat percentage is underweight by BMI (below the 5th percentile), I recommend that you gain muscle. Some exercises you can do can be found at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1--Ba... and http://www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/fi... .

If my BMI is 19, am I underweight?

It actually depends on your age and sex too.If you’re a female under 18 years of age then anything between 17.5 and 19 is fine. In case of an adult female it should be between 18.5 and 24.9.If you happen to be a male under 18 years of age then 17.5 - 19 would be an ideal range. However, if you’re an adult male you should maintain a BMI between 19 and 25.

What if I am underweight (my BMI is 18.1, and I am 5′3″) but I still want to lose weight?

ignore BMI it is for commoners, not people looking at physique… look at someone who competes in mens physique there BMI will say they are overweight but are they? Go spend $50 and get a dexa scan and go off your body fat percentage. If you are 20% body fat and a woman, that is fine/normal you could lose some body fat but your normal.. if your 20% and a man, your on the chubby side and should look to get to 12% body fat. Either way please dont rush the weight loss as maintaining your lean mass will make your physique more impressive when you reach your dream body fat % : )

Does my BMI mean I am underweight?

I saw an ad for Body Mass Index and entered my weight which is 117 and my height 5 ft. 9.5 inches and it said I had a BMI of 17.03 which i guess is underweight. I am a 16 year old male and the last time I exercised or worked out was 2 months ago. Over christmas and everything I ate a lot and kept losing weight. I am healthy generally but somedays on the weekends I do not always eat normally because I am busy but that doesn't matter a lot does it? Am I really underweight? A chart is
Below 18.5 is Underweight
18.5-24.9 is Normal
25-29.9 is Overweight
30 and above is Obese

Can you be underweight , but still be fat ? I have really fat thighs , but im underweight?

Yes, if you have muscular legs they will appear to be "too big" even though you are under weight. What does your doctor think about your weight? Have you talked to your doctor or your coaches about how you feel about your thighs?

Have you talked to a nutritionist about your diet? Obviously, if you do so many sports you are going to be more fit than the average person, but I wonder if your diet is keeping up with your body's nutritional needs since you're underweight.

Honestly, I would be more worried about body dysmorphia, and worried about being underweight in the first place than about having muscular thighs.

How is it that according to my BMI im borderline underweight but i still have a fat stomach?

According to my BMI, I am underweight but I have lot of fat in my belly, thighs and butt. What exercises should I do? What are the foods that I should avoid?

BMI is a terrible measure for an individual. It was designed for large population studies. One way it’s terrible is that it may say you are underweight simply because you have a small skeletal frame. Even if that’s the case for you, though, it’s really very unlikely that you have a “lot” of fat in your belly, thighs, and butt. Small skeletal frame plus a lot of fat would likely put you in the “normal BMI range or even in the “overweight” BMI range.Who told you that you have a lot of fat? Was it your physican? A friend? A family member? A coach? Or was it just you, looking in the mirror? If it was anyone except the first - your physician - you need to ignore that opinion. Even if it was you, looking in the mirror, who decided that there was a lot of fat, you need to ignore that opinion! Go talk to your doctor. Ask about your weight. Ask about BMI and whether it’s reasonably accurate for your body type. Ask about your fat, and ask whether a referral to a licensed nutritionist is advisable. And if your physician gives you a referral, either to a nutritionist or to any other type of specialist or counselor, please follow your physician's advice and make those appointments.
