How Can The Evaporative Emission Control Be Stopped From Sending False Engine Check Light

What are the causes for a check engine light coming on after fueling and after a while it goes off?

I suspect that your car has a sensitivity to air in the fuel, created when you fill the car up.Some cars have issues with the tank cap being sealed too tightly creating a partial vacuum in the almost full tank, which the fuel pump has a hard time overcoming. The flow meter senses issues with the volume of fuel and the engine management light can be lit until either the fuel lines are free of air or the vacuum has been resolved.Have you ever tried gently loosening the fuel filler cap and driving it for a few miles. This is not totally recommended as a permanent solution but works for diagnostic purposes.Other issues such as exhaust (tail pipe) co2 sensor impurities glazing onto the sensor surface can also cause issues like this as well. The newly burned fuel gases eventually cleans the sensor causing it to read ok again.A diagnostic code reader might help you, and they are fairly cheap for basic read outs nowadays.Let me m know if this helped.

Can the evaporative canister be disconnected and the car still run?

Check engine light code indicates evap control sensor. I know that the system has something to do with catching stray gas fumes. A lot of people have this problem and mechanics tell me it is very expensive and hard to replace. Our car is 15 years old and it would probably cost more than the car. But it will not get through inspection with the check engine light on. Can I not just disconnect the darn thing ?
Older cars did not have all that stuff and ran perfectly fine. I guess my next car will be a '82 Pontiac or something similar.

I have a 96 Mustang and my check engine light keeps coming on.?

P1443 is a manufacturer specific code (as opposed to the SAE generic) OBD II code, and identifies an EVAP system failure, and has nothing to do with the Idle Air Control.
You should know, that the codes displayed identify a SYSTEM or CIRCUIT in which the PCM has located a failure, and does NOT NECESSARILY indicate a failed component.
This code is MOST LIKELY a failure with the EVAP purge solenoid, a loose or broken vacuum hose in the EVAP system, or perhaps a defective fuel cap.
The computer is designed to run emissions tests on the car regularly, and one of the tests it runs is the EVAP monitor. It is trying to test the integrity and the ability of the fuel and Evaporate Control System to keep fuel vapors in the car, and not escaping into the atmosphere.
Stop throwing MONEY at the car.
I recommend one of two things…
1) Go the library, or purchase a QUALITY repair manual and follow the diagnostic trouble tree to locate the fault, and repair as necessary according to the results of the testing.
or…
2) Take your car to a REPUTABLE emissions test and repair shop, or the dealer for proper diagnostics, an estimate of repair cost, and subsequent repair.

What causes the check engine light to come on in a Hyundai Sonata?

I’ll give you the answer which goes out for all vehicles. This light doesn’t specify the nature of the problem. It just indicates that something is wrong with the engine. It can be related to emission, exhaust system, loose gas cap, or even failed spark plugs. Engine is the heart of a car. Just like with a human heart, all kinds of issues within other organs can affect its functionality. Not all of these repairs are expensive. But you won’t know exactly where the problem lives until you visit the mechanic.Depending on the type of fault, this light can be flashing, steady, or even different colors like the traffic-lights.If the light is flashing, find an exit, stop the car and call a mechanic or a towing service, because you won’t be able to solve this on your own, and it’s usually a more serious issue that can cause damage if you continue to drive for too long. If it’s on solid, either amber or red, make an appointment to have it looked at as soon as possible. There is only one engine light and if you leave it too long you won’t know if something else is going wrong in addition to the original cause that turned the light on first.I hope it helps. I got an oil change and now the check engine light is back on. What are some reasons for that?

Is the check engine light flashing or on solid? If it’s on solid, it’s related to the emissions control equipment and it’s relatively minor and there’s no real chance of permanent damage. A flashing check engine light means there was a severe misfire and the car should only be driven minimally. In either case, an oil change has little or nothing to do with the check engine light being on. They’re effectively separate systems. The engine oil, when the engine isn’t running, sits at the bottom of the engine in a pan and is then circulated around the engine by means of a pump.Whoever is maintaining the car needs to do other diagnostics to figure out why the check engine light is on. Many auto parts stores will hook up a scanner to the diagnostic port under the dashboard and tell you what error codes the engine computer is reporting. From there you can get a rough idea of the problem.Without actually seeing the car, typical causes are the gas cap is either not on tightly enough or faulty or an oxygen sensor needs to be replaced.

How to reset the yellow steady check engine light code PO442 on 2006 Chevy Cobalt LS sedan 2.2L 113800 miles?

If the check engine light is from the gas cap, the code will reset itself after a few engine start stop cycles. Usually in a couple of days. If the light is still on, the mechanic is either unethical or incompetent and sold you a gas cap that you didn't need.

The very next thing that I would replace if I were you would be my mechanic.

It could also be just as easily be a leaking O ring in a EVAP system line, it could be a loose fitting, it could be a damaged EVAP system line. It could be that the mechanic sold you the incorrect gas cap.

Some of the better OBD 2 diagnostic scan tools have the ability to erase the trouble codes which reset the check engine light. The cheap scan tools used by the auto parts stores usually can not erase codes, just read them.

What I would do if I were you. Take the car to a different reputable mechanic. Explain to them what has happened. See if they will erase the trouble code for you. If there is no problem, the light will stay out. If the check engine light comes back on, there is still a problem with the EVAP system.

For now, you can safely drive the vehicle with this trouble code. This will not affect the way the engine runs in any way. This is a emissions issue. If there is actually a problem it means that you are venting gasoline vapors from the fuel tank. However, this should eventually be addressed.

If your car blew a head gasket, would the check engine light always come on?

No. Watch for white ‘smoke’ from the tailpipe always and if the engine’s performance has changed in some way look for this. The ‘smoke’ is essentially steam from water getting into the cylinders. You will often see this on start up but that should only be natural moisture evaporating out of the exhaust system. If it doesn't stop soon after you are underway then something may be wrong.Keep after your coolant level and see if there is a constant reduction. If the engine begins to have trouble turning over at start up, this could be a gasket leak that is percolating coolant into a cylinder(s) while the engine is at rest. And note that airbags won't always work, good ‘idiot’ light or not, so folks please STOP depending on brakes (which can also fail) to save only YOUR life, and to not roll up on people at 50 mph at a stop sign or red light, who are walking across the street or driving and checking traffic or waiting for that light…or an emergency vehicle. :p
