How Can You Tell If You Have A Good Longboard.

What is a good downhill longboard setup?

I am looking to buy an entire new longboard set up, with the main intention of downhill. I'm looking at a specific course which is VERY steep with intense switchbacks, so i am looking for a board, trucks, and wheels that will be good for stability, carving, and most importantly drifting/sliding. I am looking to spend under 300 or around there on the setup.

How much is a beginner but good longboard cost?

heres the thing to know about buying longboards. every dollar more you spend, the better th longboard. I'm not saying you get what you pay for, but a 180 dollar setup can be twice as good as a 150 dollar one. the cheapest thing i woule ever buy is 130 dollars, and thats even kinda bare bones http://www.skatesonhaight.com/Sector-9-l... try this site. this is the board I would get if I were on your budget. anything cheaper isnt worth it. id also fork over the 8 bucks for randal 180 trucks

Is globe a good longboard brand?

Hey sal :) its me again :p. Globe is a smaller brand , im not really sure how good there boards are. i did a little research and found that its in the middle. Saw bad and good things. mostly good. i haven't heard anything about there bearings. Also if you posted a link i could help more. sorry if this diffident help. remember higher bearing number is faster not always better or durable. 5 bearings is better than 3. 7 is better than 5. so on. speed bearings are also good. i street skate and i use bone reds, there a measly 15$ and there amazing. idk if they would work for longboards.

How do I become really good at longboarding?

"really good" is a bit subjective...compared to who? What type of longboarding? If you just want to improve, skate everyday. Just find excuses to get out the longboard and ride. Everything starts to become second nature. You'll improve balance, stamina, strength. Going for long skates also helps. LDP (long distance push) on bikeways, cycle paths, footpaths, quiet roads and practice pushing from both legs. If you want to dance or do tricks then I would suggest doing the Loaded Boards challenges. Start at series one, they are on Youtube on the Loaded Newsletter account. Page on youtube.comThey are a bit old, but classics. Just learn those tricks one at a time. Persistance and small steps. Do a little bit every day. Each to their own, some skaters like being alone, others like skating with friends. I think you learn more with friends pushing you. Mullens always skated alone and is one of the greatest skaters of all time, how did he get so good? Watch his interview on The Berrics  RODNEY MULLEN - A Beautiful Mind If you want to downhill, freeride and race then you are going to have to find like minded longboarders. The best hills and best sessions are usually part of a closed group of friends. If you become part of that community, you will get invited. You will become the average of the 5 skaters you longboard with. So try to skate with people with talent and who are better than you. They can help, and you can learn. The great thing about skateboarding and longboarding is it is a club that membership is just owning a board. When you are on the hill, cruising the boardwalk or jamming at the skatepark, everyone is equal, it is just some are better than others. You can be waiting for your turn to skate the bowl, have a young kid on one side and a pro skater on the other. Or you can be at a longboard race, at the top of the hill with James Kelly and Kevin Reimer in your heat! It is easy to put yourself in situations where you can skate with some of the best in the world. Skate with the best, you will become the best. Finally wear a helmet and safety gear. To improve you have to fail. Failing on concrete can hurt.

Is this longboard fake or real?

Looks real to me...may not have good trucks or bearings on it though...A decent longboard usually will cost you about $125 all the way up to 400+...if this board is less that a hundred bucks then you should make sure your not buying junk. Check the bearings and trucks..make sure the wheels spin freely and the trucks turn. The wood looks fine from the pictures but use your best judgement..

How can you tell if your wheels are fit for sliding on a longboard?

Simple.Longboard wheels come in varying hardness. 78A duro is soft while 85A is quite hard. You'll need harder wheels to slide. Also, the lip(outer rim of the longboard wheel) will have a particular edge. Should the edge be sharp, sliding is difficult but carving is easier because it digs into the ground. You'll need rounded edges to slide.Lastly, examine your wheels again. Is each wheel symmetrically mounted? If so, they're better off for sliding.Hope that helps. All the best.

What would be the best longboard for a guy over 220lbs?

Maybe a 87 or 88 wheel, for your size, big is good for big! I have plenty of friends that are at your weight, or over 220, and still skating hard in their late 40’s, early 50’s, in skateparks and bowls! Good luck bro, and definitely go with a deck with a little flex, just not too much! If you get a hard stick, your more likely to snap it sooner than a little give to the wood! Original, Sector, Carver, Gravity, and even Globes high end board are really good now! Original is thee bomb, Carver & Sector 9 are my next choices! Good luck, and stand on the board first, then work your feet towards each other, the middle. You'll start to notice the flexibility of the deck, and see if it's too much? If they know what their doing, and should be at a skate shop, they should know what you need right off the bat! You got this!, oh and Bamboo is great for longboards, and Bamboo wheels, that's the ticket!!!’Stability Skateboard.Com

If i can longboard can i snowboard? ?

Let's take a look at the physics involved in both:

Long boarding works with a surface that interacts directly with your wheels. This means that you will less likely lose the grip you have on your board.

In Snowboarding, you have to work with a metal strip on the edge of your board for turning since you have no friction and have to create your own groove in the snow to travel on.

In conclusion: Yes, the transition will be easier this time, but there are still different physical variables you will be working with that your body will adapt to.

Have Fun!

How can longboarding keep you fit?

At University of Hawaii at Manoa, I rode around to get to class and the nearby eating establishments. I enjoyed it very much so it was easy to maintain some level of fitness as you have to actively move your body.I would say that the problem comes with doing it long term like I did in an environment that involves a lot of pushing. You longboard for a long enough time and you find that, depending on your stance, your legs get weird. Riding goofy made it so that my left calf and right quad was noticeably bigger than their counterparts and this causes problems with other activities like leg lifting at the gym. I pretty much had to tone down on how much I rode because it started to affect my knee and how I walked. If you’re planning on riding, good on you. It’s the best thing that I picked up at uni and it’s what prevented me from becoming a fragile hermit. But I say that if you plan on riding nearly every day, make sure that you either,Take a break so that your legs don’t get weird.Learn how to board in the opposite stance.Supplement your longboarding with other exercises that involve balanced work on each leg.As long as you don’t overdo it, longboarding is an excellent way to stay fit simply because it’s an enjoyable thing to do.
