How Come Communism Still Exists

Do you think communism will still exist in 50 years?

It doesn't exist now and never has done. Most so called communist systems were nothing of the kind, other than post-feudal attempts to develop capitalist production methods onto underdeveloped societies."State capitalism would be a step forward for us." (Lenin: What is to be done) Here is what Fidel Castro said when urging Mexican businesspeople to invest in Cuba, in 1988:“We are capitalists, but state capitalists. We are not private capitalists.” (Daum, Walter , 1990,. The Life and Death of Stalinism; A Resurrection of Marxist Theory, NY: Socialist Voice Publishing., p.232)

Why does Communism still exist?

Most communist nations today are really military dictatorships. The people are told who to vote for (just like here - lol.) and the fruit of their labors are turned in to the government for general distribution. It's almost like capitalism these days, since they do use money, and wages/prices are determined by the gov't (remember Nixon's Wage and Price Controls?)

Communism has only worked well once - in the Book of Acts in the Bible. The problem with it is that it depends on the natural goodness and selflessness of humanity. In other words, it's based on a false premise. That's why it collapsed in Russia, and why citizens of communist countries are always so poor. It's theoretically a great system, which is why ivory tower types are all for it. But practically, no good can come of it without direct intervention from God. And Marxist Communism is atheistic.

Questions about Communism?

For my U.S history class I have to go around asking people their opinions on communism

Please make sure to leave the year you were born

1) What is Communism?
2)Why did we fear it?

How many communist countries exists today?

Communism is a highly idealized social & economic order. It exists nowhere on earth.

There are countries that are ruled by parties / ideologies with names like Communist, Worker, Peoples, etc... They are often called "communist countries" by some, although there is no strict definition of a "communist country". They would include North Korea, China, Nepal, Albania, Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua (questionable), Libya -- count 9 so far. There are many more similar countries that only differ from the above by their rulers using some different terminology (e.g. Myanmar, Congo, Zimbabwe, etc.). Typically these countries are opressed, with glaring inequalities, and generally as remote from the communist ideal as one can get.

Finally, there are very advanced countries with wealthy, well-balanced, and educated population. These would include Denmark, France, Iceland, Netherlands, etc... Their socieities are the closest to the Marxist definition of communism, although they practice a mixture of public and private ownership of capital resources. However, they are never called "communist" or even "socialist" in the general media (outside of academia).

How many communist countries still exist today?

Cuba, Laos, Vietnam, and North Korea. North Korea though is the last truly Stalinist regime.

China is semi-Communist. The reason I say this about China is because they are embracing free market principles. But they still have Communist treatment over many basic human rights on various social issues.

What are the communist countries that exist in the world today?

Communist-led regimes?Technically, Cuba, China, Vietnam and Laos. North Korea or the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) is often referred to as a communist country, but it’s ruling Korean Workers’ Party long ago dropped any and all references to Marxism-Leninism, and even socialism is being phased out as a term in favour of Juche (self-reliance). Also, the North Korean regime doesn’t use social justice as a tool to legitimise itself the way that Cuba does or the Soviet Union did, instead their propaganda seems to mostly consist of racialised nationalism. Arguably, it’s a former communist-led regime, which has since morphed into a Far Right, militaristic, nationalist one.Former communistsChina doesn’t even have universal single-payer health insurance and is home to many Western corporations who exploit cheap Chinese labour (i.e. 19th century style capitalism). It’s hard to really call it communist either, albeit they keep up the facade. I had a friend once tell me that you can see pictures of Vladimir Lenin right beside Western brands like RCA in Vietnam. I don’t know much about Laos.Really, the only true communist country (i.e. country led by real, Soviet style communists) is Cuba. The economy is almost entirely state-owned, the government provides social services to everyone (even if not very well), and the government uses social justice and public ownership to establish legitimacy. It’s communism with an anti-American nationalist flavour, but definitely Soviet-style communism nonetheless.Definitely communistOther ruling communist parties are mostly social democrats who were historically communist, later dropped the ideology but have since kept the labels largely for brand reasons: the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the Indian state of Kerala, the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), the Progressive Party of Working People in Cyprus, the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova, probably also Russia’s largest opposition party (the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, whose presidential candidate was a self-made capitalist - he made his money through strawberries).Supposedly a “communist”

Why is communism still alive in India?

I consider communism as Culture and India has lots diverse Culture. Many people believes that No one should be too much wealthy like Ambani or Adani, they believe its their right to get job even if they do not eligible for it. They believe making profit is illegal and crime. As a culture they thinks whatever income or profit state earn should be distributed equally so that no one will be poor and no one will be too rich. Its good concept, but there is a flow in this concept. The flow is, communism means eliminating competition, eliminating right to earn because of your skill, right too charge because of your quality or innovation. They believe every thing should be owned by everyone like a collective ownership. They believe Auto Rickshaw should not use because that will finish hand pulling cycle business (like in Calcutta) and they will loss their income. So they collectively go on strikes and put things on stand still. They are fine with low productivity, low inflation, low savings, low cost of living and no innovation or development.Indian constitution had mix of capital and communism concept. State own units, PSU, Railway etc is one way of communism. Giving jobs in PSU was basic concept after 1950s. Jawaharlal Nehru believed that PSU opened for giving job and not for making profit. That dried innovation, right talent, growth and they become white elephant like BSNL and Air India which is loosing around 10–12K cr rs every year.It is difficult that culture get obsolete, it takes years and might be decades. Today new generation strongly believe that BSNL should be sold out now we do not need it. Just for sake of jobs you can not make loss of 6000 cr every year. In next 20–25 year Communism will die to slow death. There are still people who was born in 1950s to 1980s. So till they are alive there will be communism in India.
