How Come Conservative Places Are The Places That Want To Ban Everything

Why do conservatives claim to be for small government, yet want to control people's private lives?

Another lib question that makes a wrong-headed assertion. Conservatives don’t want to control people’s private lives, they are concerned with public life. Some conservatives object to abortion, some object to gay marriage, some object to having transgender people join the military or use the bathroom of the opposite sex, some object to letting very young children choose what sex they want to be regardless of their biological sex, & some don’t want to cater gay weddings. The GOP isn’t of one mind about these issues and many Democrats are pro-life and against gay marriage etc. None of these beliefs are about controlling anyone’s “private” life. In the case of abortion- they are concerned about the life of an unborn baby. In LGBTQ issues- they are about asking whether private behavior made public can negatively affect society. We no longer really discuss these issues directly. They have become political hand grenades where the left lobs out questions such as this one and play the sexism card and identity politics. No one can truly be pro-abortion. I think most of us can all agree that abortion is a “bad” thing and that, ideally, abortion should rarely be necessary because men & women are extremely careful to avoid unintended pregnancies. Would outlawing abortion bring about a new wave of morality or fastidious birth control? or just a new wave of women dying from illegal, unsanitary abortions? They say “you can’t legislate morality;” we may be able to deduce the answer to that question. The libertarian conservatives want people to be free to live their lives as they wish. But realize that in so doing, societal issues affecting the public may arise that should be examined.Conservatives do believe in a small federal government with only the few powers given to it in our Constitution. Liberals are much more interested in controlling the private lives of individuals. The issues mentioned here aren’t about big vs. small government, they’re about personal freedom, life, liberty, and happiness, and a strong, united country. Somehow we need for Americans and our Congress to get back to civil debate on all issues that arise.

Why do Liberals wage war on tobacco and Conservatives wage war on marijuana? Isnt this ODD!?

all the anti tobacco legislation comes from liberals. Smoking bans to protect the public from toxic 2nd hand smoke, punative taxation and fda regulation to protect kids and public health. Anything anti tobacco liberals fully support while conservatives side with big tobacco and fight any anti tobacco legislation tooth and nail. Democrats never blocked a cigarette tax, Democrats never blocked a smoking ban, Democrats are 100% anti smoking. With Republicans its the total opposite. Republicans just lowered the cigarette tax in New Hempsire. Republicans repealed part of the smoking ban in Nevada. Republicans voted against the fda regulation of tobacco. Republicans push for cigar bar bills to bypass smoking bans. Republicans block any anti tobacco legislation while Democrats push for it.

On the other hand with marijuana. Its the liberals pushing to soften the marijuana laws, while conservatives want em all locked up! Whether its medical, decrim, or full legalization, its almost all Republicans that fight against it tooth and nail. Almost all the counties that voted against any pro marijuana legislation were solid red, while the pretty much all the counties that voted in favor of pro marijuana were solidly blue counties. Same pattern in every state. The rural redneck areas vote most heavily against marijuana.

Democrat politicians support at least medical and decrim in all the state legislatures but not full legalization YET. But they will in the future. Republicans are 100% against any changes in the marijuana laws expect make them closer to Singapore! They see them as dirty hippies. Republicans dont believe its medicine and dont think cancer patients should have it. Every single Republican other than Ron and Rand Paul think and vote the exact same way Reagan and Nixon did. its a devil weapon, it kills your brain, its a gateway drug, its worse than crack and heroin.

Theres a rediculous correlation! Its a dead set partisan on both tobacco and marijuana in opposite directions. How come when it comes to TOBACCO FREEDOM, its the Conservatives that are with you and Liberals fight you tooth and nail, but when it comes to MARIJUANA FREEDOM, its the OPPOSITE?

Smoking Ban? Liberal and Conservative Views?

I have an essay to do about this topic and one of my examples was the smoking ban. but i cant find much about this. What do liberals think about the smoking ban and what do conservatives think about it? Thanks 5 stars for best answer

Why do US conservatives assume that gun control is about a wholesale gun ban? Why can't they fathom that it could be just a ban of automatic weapons?

Could it be that a ban on automatic weapons has been in place since 1933? Could it be that the National Firearms Act of 1933 was the name of that ban? Could it be that this law caused SCOTUS to introduce the common use test in US v Miller? Could it be that the Gun Control Act of 1968 conflicts with the common use test of US v Miller; but SCOTUS has declined to clarify or resolve that conflict at any time in the last forty eight years? Could it be that some people are ignorant enough to be oblivious to all of the above, and the thousands of other gun control laws on the books already; but always want more? Could it be that the earliest gun control laws were a subset of the Jim Crow laws and made no attempt to disguise their racist, bigoted nature; but more recent gun control laws simply hide their bigotry better? Could it be that the poser of the question wishes to promulgate a false dichotomy amongst arbitrary groups of statists, or that the poser of the question is genuinely ignorant of the Liberty community as a whole, presuming that anyone opposed to having their self ownership, and attendant right to defensive tools, must be a “conservative” (I won’t get into why the terms “conservative” and “liberal” are both used in the exact opposite of their historical meanings)? The answer is because gun control can not be a call to ban automatic weapons, since such a law has been in force in the US since 1933. Since a call for a new law that alleges to be about enacting something that is already enacted into law must be fraudulent and actually about some other, concealed, purpose, it therefore follows that no one with any awareness of current law could possibly “fathom that it could be just a ban on automatic weapons” since such a fathoming would be false, fraudulent, and likely delusional.

Why are conservatives so against a gun ban and open borders?

Well I am super duper ultra conservative. Way far to the right of a Republican. Don’t confuse conservatism with stupidism. Here are some basic tenets of common sense:no country on earth has open borders. None, zero. Guess why? Because it’s dangerous, that’s why.real conservatives are pro immigration. We know it is the foundation of our way of life. But immigrants must be vetted, accepted and assimilate. It is critical for them and us if we want to continue the great experiment and our way of life. I welcome anyone from any land as long as limits are set and they are vetted before arrival.gun ban… people talk about gun bans. That’s just silly. First, in the rotunda there is a document that says no. That document is important; it’s what keeps people without guns from being persecuted. Good luck with the whole gun ban thing.People who live in cities are basically children; outside the cities a cop or a grocery store could be a day’s drive. That’s why we have guns. Urban dwellers ignorance created the current political environment by misunderstanding that outside the city are people too and those people have different beliefs and vote.

Why are British people so conservative and uptight ?

It's no secret that Brits are uptight about sex and nudity. Thus the famous phrase "No sex please, We're British".

In 2007, the British government banned hardcore pornography. But now conservatives in the UK want to ban all internet porn.

"A conservative member of the British Parliament has made a move to block all pornography from reaching Internet subscribers in the UK. The British government plans to meet with Internet service providers in the country next month to discuss the idea of censoring all Internet connections and requiring users to specifically request access to pornographic materials from their ISPs."

British people are also uptight about swearing. A radio announcer caused uproar in the UK because he accidentally mispronounced the the word "hunt" as "****". He was forced to apologize.

"Radio 4 presenter James Naughtie has apologised for causing offense live on air on Monday by mispronouncing Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt's surname. Naughtie said he was "very sorry" for any offense caused. "

I'm from USA and we have a very relaxed view towards porn and swearing. Everyone swears here. We have the biggest porn industry in the world (89% of world's porn is produced in USA). We have softcore pornography on our TV at night (HBO, Cinemax, ShowTime). We invented Playboy and the famous wet t-shirt contests. Our government would never ban porn.

So my questions are:
1.) Why are British people so offended by swear words ?
2.) Why is Britain trying to ban porn ?
3.) Why are British people so offended by nudity ?
