How Come India Is Very Rich And At The Same Time Very Poor Country

Is India a poor country?

i am an economics student from India and i feel that i said put some facts

India has 1/3 population below poverty line i.e $1 income.
Indian population is largely engaged in agriculture(around 58%). Indian agriculture is growing at very slow rate and hence large section of population is left out of the developmental process.
India is 4th or 5th largest economy by size. but since population is large per capita income is low
income distribution is not as bad as in one answer it was believed that 75% are exploited by 25% , it's better than Brazil.

What countries used to be rich but are now poor?

Rhodesia became Zimbabwe.
China was once a very rich country. Then it became very poor. It is now becoming a wealthier country again.
Parts of what is now Mexico were very wealthy at one time, then became very poor.

Difference between poor and rich countries?

Hi, what do you think might be the difference/discrepancy why there is rich and poor countries...is it one of the ff. reasons:
1. Country's age
2. Natural resources.
3. Intellectual differences or
4. Is it the immigrants who make the country productive

Why did India become poor if it was once so very rich as claimed by many Indians? The examples given are that of diamonds which were sold on the streets in India during the rule of Krishnadevaraya.

Nations at the top of the perch at some point become too self-absorbed and stop noticing the world around them. This self-absorption leads to stagnation and eventually to a complete decay. By the 17th century, both India and China stopped being inquisitive. India had a long history of cultural links with East and West Asia. By the time of Mughals, all those cultural links were gone. China too stopped all its outward explorations by the time of the late Ming dynasty. We became like Internet Explorers - stuck in a myth that we were invincible and the world revolved around us. We failed to learn the cool things happening in Britain, Portugal, Netherlands and elsewhere (the only guy who paid some attention - Tipu Sultan - was little too late). In the meanwhile, another group of people were really hungry. They were real explorers. They were inquisitive, exploratory and were relentless. The Europeans quickly learned from others (such as the math from India/Arabia, gunpowder from China) and from each other. They were hungry to get out of their dark ages, while we were unsure of our strengths and weaknesses. Whether it is startups or nations, this is what always happens. Most of the established biggies fail to innovate while young, hungry entities out innovate the biggies. US is now repeating some of the mistakes that India & China did at their heights - getting excessively self-absorbed. In a century, there will be another set of the winners and the cycle would go on.Always keep your eyes and ears on the world around you. The moment you take the eyes off it, disaster strikes.

Why is India poor and Pakistan is rich?

Again a stupid questionEven though i am Pakistani but this is not true that India is a poor nation then Pakistan, India is one of the fastest growing economy at the moment even though they are our enemy No 1 but the clever nation learn any thing good if even it comes from their enemy.I think as i am in UK designing websites for some xyz company and I see Pakistani are so good at it UI UX but their are so many Indian are here also in the same field they have a numbers but not the quality but that is my view I am sure Indian will not agree with this. But what I see that India start with call centres supports 15 to 20 year back and now providing so many other things like software and so On.It took them so many years to understand the system and developed but now once the system is there they are doing great. What Pakistan should do is see their play book understand it don’t repeat the same mistake what they did when developing the infrastructure and we will achieved the same results or better in ¼ of the time.Made in Pakistan should be on every thing with in next ten yearin sha allah

Why is India still a poor country even with a huge population and natural resources?

“Jab tak bewakoof zinda hai , samajdaar log bhukhe nahi mar sakte.”“Till when Idiots are alive , genius won’t die of starvation”This thing was rightly said by elders. Actually, everything they said in past we can see happening around us.India has everything .a huge population, great minds, great human resource ,a big storage of natural resources, resources to make machine and stuff to make use of all other resources ,a large area of land, workers, enthusiasts, developers, executives, technicians, managers, accountants, artists, leaders, investors andEarners who earn the money from the hard work of all above.Yeah! we have earners from small scale chai-shop to a large scale industry.Let we focus on the situations :The shopkeeper has a worker of under 18 years , which he makes to work out a lot but gives him income less not of a full labor .That’s what the most lower class in the country manage to earn for there livelihood. This shopkeeper has to pay rent to the owner of that place which cost him high as the shop is established and Shopkeeper has this as only way to live his life. Also he pays for the tax he took 6 years backs for so and so.All those try to work hard lose their earning to grow up their standards and business .Now the landowners even has a job at a corporate. His son studies in one of greatest medical Institution. His struggle is to pay the donation amount. That big amount they take every year. Or maybe he has to marry her daughter in a very rich family and has to unite a good amount of dowry. One must know Population in India is Liability too .Now the donation amount is used by Director of college and some authorities (dowry and bribes too) every year in development . Development of their bungalows and factories. From here the money which was moving once a small amount of 10000 or so moves as 10 lacs or so.I told you there are a few earners in the story who do earn. The scene doesn’t end here. The big donations, dowries and bribes reached to builders , brokers, businessman or highly corrupt officer are having the money.Once they are done with differentiating themselves from ‘Poor people’ and losing some crores in stocks or in big foreign deals, the suitcase filled with some 10 crores travel in between politicians, smugglers and reaches either to some Swiss-account , some bathroom roof or for some drug deal or may be a weapon or bomb deal. The note finally reached the place for which these are printed in RBI.“Richer get Richer , Poor get poorer.”
