How Come My 1992 Nissan Pathfinder Cranks But Wont Start

What should I do if my car's engine is flooded and won't start?

You probably have a carburetor, but flooding can also possibly happen with a fuel-injected vehicle. In either case, provided that it's actually flooded (you can smell the fuel), arrange for some means of recharging your battery just in case. If carbureted, prop the choke open with some object that doesn't obstruct very much of the carburetor's intake and is too large to accidentally drop down through the carburetor into the intake manifold. Hold the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor. Crank the engine, but no longer than twenty seconds at a time without stopping to allow the starter motor to cool off. You may need to keep a battery charger or a set of jumper cables (connected to a running vehicle) connected to the battery to keep it charged while you do this.Your engine should eventually start if you do this. When it does, immediately release the accelerator pedal and "feather" it to keep the engine barely running. If you have a helper, have them remove whatever you used to prop the choke open. If not, wait until the engine is sufficiently warmed up to idle on its own before you remove that object. Replace the air cleaner or air plenum, be sure all loosened or removed fasteners are tightened correctly, disconnect the charger/cables, close the hood. You're good to go.

Why won't my car start after fixing a broken serpentine belt?

Ok so first question is the starter rotating the motor like it should and it just wont start or are you turning the key without getting any results. If its not turning over id first off hit the starter solenoid with a soft hammer a few good raps may dislodge a stuck solenoid. Now if the motor is spinning but not firing up my first place id look is the distributor wiring unless it runs coil packs then i would guess that you knocked the wires off the crank sensor or maybe even broke the crank sensor. I am at a disability here not knowing what the vehicle make is., if it died while driving because belt fell off and you ran on battery till it ran out of power. ( a jump start is the ticket in that case ) Honestly im going with the crank sensor or crankshaft position sensor.being the root of your problem because if the belt broke it could easily take out the sensor as belt flew around the front of the motor. But check all your connections and research the crank sensor ..its usually a cheap and easy part to replace if its in a area where belt passes by it that makes sense as to your problem. Ok let me know a bit more info if possible. Dont give up the answer will come

What is a method to start a car after running out of gas?

OP: “What is a method to start a car after running out of gas?”Read your Owner’s manual.A) Get fresh gasoline. Use a proper filling can certified for holding petroleum products.B) Fill at least 5 litres into the tank.C) Give the gas time to trickle down to the bottom of the tank where the fuel pickup (intake) is.Some fuel pumps are submerged in petroleum to keep them cool. After waiting a minute, then turn the key to “on” you should hear the fuel pump go “Buzzt” as the pressure is built up in the fuel lines going to the engine. Once the pressure goes above a set value (20 or 35 psi), then it shuts off.turn the car to off again, the fuel pump is now primed. Now change , and start like normal. You should have enough fuel to get to the nearest fuel stop. Fill it to 1/2 tankful only. Then when you get home , fill with your regular fuel.Watch the fuel empty sign ,and the warning buzzer! It means fill it up within 100 km, so you were warned long ahead, but you ignored the warning. Doh!Don’t do this too often otherwise fuel pumps fail, and other parts wear a lot harder without the fuel to lubricate the system. If you are in Orange County, California; you may wish to phone a friend to bring you some gasoline, since it is those very same ‘friends’ that will expect you to have a car well gassed up when they need a lift. If they politely excuse that they can’t help, you know who to give lifts to when they want a ride (siblings excepted)

Will a faulty transmission control module cause a car not to start?

When you say won’t start, is that meaning will not turn over, or will simply crank and not start, big difference. Transmission neutral switch will prevent engine from turning over, but transmission module is a shift control and will not usually prevent car from starting in my experience. If anything, clean connector contacts for some are located in area which collects road grime, so check connections. If you simply put shift in neutral and try again. Moving shift lever through all positions as you are trying to start will sometimes give you your answer if it starts. You need to be more specific as well as make and model to get accurate answer. In the case of no crank situation, here is a way to analyze your starter control module. Most vehicles have a gear selection indicator in dash, so with ignition on, simple watch indicator as you shift from P park to R reverse to N Neutral and each of 1–2–3–4–5 gear positions if you have the typical select shift transmission option. If the indicator coordinates with your shifter, it is likely not your transmission start module. Always try to start your vehicle in the neutral position as well is an easy way to narrow down problem. If it is a dirty transmission position contact, this may solve your no crank situation, check for bad plug connections as well, this is common problem on many models where location of transmission control module is exposed to elements. Again, there are many issues which can stop an engine from starting, so more specifics and model and options would be needed for more accurate answer.Forced-Success-System.com

What are reasons your steering wheel won't lock?

I assume that you are referring to your steering wheel not locking in position after you stop the vehicle and take out the key? There are several possible reasons for this.1. The cog that fits into the detent on the steering column is broken and needs to be replaced.2. The detent on the steering column is worn or broken3. You have not turned the wheel far enough for the cog to find a detent. Pull the wheel first to the left, and then to the right to find the spot.4. The actuator from the solenoid to the cog is broken. To repair this will require the cover on the steering column to be removed, and probably need to have the steering wheel removed as well. Take it to a qualified shop or dealer for this. Incorrect actions could result in damage to the parts, or even the deployment of the air bag on the steering wheel. The exact disassembly required will differ for each manufacturer and possible model of vehicle. If you have a Chilton's manual for your vehicle, you can look up the repair to see what is involve.

I left my cars AC on (not engine) all night and now my car won't start, what's wrong?

Here’s what I know:AC stands for Air Conditioning (duh).Leaving the AC switch “on” does nothing at all if your engine is not running. The AC cools the air coming in thru the ventilation system by running it past a heat exchanger that has in turn been cooled by a compressed working fluid (refrigerant). That compressor is the important bit because it is a mechanical device that is run by a drive belt connected to the engine. If the engine is off, the drive belt doesn’t move, and the AC compressor doesn’t compress.Did you leave the keys in and the ventilation fan on? The fan is electric, and if you left the keys in the ignition in the ACC or ON position then yes, you could easily drain the battery over a period of several hours.

The steering wheel is not locked, but the key won't turn. What could be the issue?

Only one of two issues assuming the correct key is being used. Either the lock is defective i.e. wafer (tumbler) out of place, or transmission shift interlock cable not fully in Park. On occasion I have run into both situations.Correction for the lock is to have a locksmith come out and inspect the lock. There have been times that the ignition lock has to be drilled out and replaced. As for the interlock cable, physically make sure the transmission shit lever is truly in Park. Adjusting the lever might surprise you because now the lock will turn with the key.

What causes a car to lose power while driving?

In modern cars with engine management systems, it is the system itself that reduces power if it detects a problem with the engine.  A warning light will come and and the engine will go into 'limp home' mode, where speed it usually limited to 80km/h or lower.  Any number of things can cause this, but usually it relates to loss of something important, like a coolant leak, or low oil pressure.  Sometimes it can also be a false positive due to a fault in the management system itself. All internal combustion engines require three things to work; compression, fuel and ignition.  Degradation of any one of theses will result in lower engine performance.Loss of compression can result from engine wear, common in engines with several hundred thousand kilometers on the clock.  Engine efficiency is lost because gasses can escape past the piston rings.  Mechanical failure such as a blown head gasket can cause a similar loss.Blockages or degradation of the fuel supply, such as a worn fuel pump will cause loss of power for obvious reasons.Ignition faults stem from things such as a cracked distributor head, worn spark plugs, worn ignition coil or faulty spark plug leads.  They generally result in some cylinders not igniting the fuel/air mix, thus reducing the power.Loss of lubricant or coolant will cause the engine to overheat and then seize.  In this case, loss of power is 100%.Worn bearings in the engine will usually not reduce power much, they will keep working, making more and more noise, and then fail catastrophically, causing the engine to seize. It is also possible for timing chains to slip, adjustment screws to loosen in the carburetor, exhaust manifolds to develop leaks , and other minor mechanical faults to occur that will reduce engine power.  This can happen suddenly or gradually over time.
