How Come Society Cares About The Death Of Humans But Not Other Animals

Why does 'cruelty to animals' matter to our society?

I'm with you.

All over the world people are being imprisoned, tortured, killed, and we're worried about an extinct bird?

In most animal species the mother takes care of the babies. Do you think (human) women are naturally more nurturing or society's teaching?

I think women on the whole are more nurturing than men. I don't think I've ever seen a man squeal over a baby and want to hold it and play with it. There are women who are not the least bit nurturing though. And it's not just humans. I once had a cat that gave birth and didn't have much interest in her kittens.

Why do people care more about animals than humans?

I've wondered the same thing. I live in a rural area where feral cats are in abundance. Some people shoot them or kill them with bait. I was thinking that if Americans could get over their issues, we could find a way to safely & cheaply euthanize these cats & butcher them for the meat, which could then be distibuted to the soup kitchens, food pantries, & shelters. This could also apply to the dogs & cats being put down in shelters & pounds. I've been homeless & have 8 cats--all have been fixed--& I can tell you: The homeless shelters--for humans--are full. Especially in wintertime. The soup kitchens serve donated foods--most of which are substandard in taste & nutrition. The meat from the animals would greatly improve the nutriative value of foods being served at these charities. And by the way, mental illness is the #1 reason for human homelessness, not drug addiction. I know, I've been there.

Why is it okay for humans to eat animals but maneating animals must be captured and killed?

Because we value human lives more than animal lives. Why? Because we are highly social animals who care for other human beings. Societies that do not protect their own members would not fare very well and would be taken over by more cohesive societies that took better care of their members. It all starts with the basic unit: the family. Would you rather save your child or spare the life of a wolf that is attacking her? Would you rather see your son starve or would you twist that chicken's neck and cook it for your hungry child?I'm not advocating eating meat. I do not eat meat myself. I get it. You love animals and it makes you angry that their lives have no value or less value than that of a person. It upsets me, too, that some people still think that it is OK to abuse animals or that all animals are unfeeling automatons made of delicious meat. Fortunately, I think that progress is being made and more and more people are aware of the plight of factory-farmed animals, or of hunted animals. There are many people who will protest whaling or dolphin hunting, or the crating of mother pigs, etc. Meat consumption per capita has actually decreased in many countries in recent years. Now, going back to the man eater, it is possible in some cases to capture a man-eating predator and relocate the animal to a place where it will not meet other humans. But sometimes that may not be possible and the animal is then killed. It would be doing people a disservice to allow them to fall prey to an animal. Of course, sometimes animals become man eaters because their habitat has been reduced by human invasion. In that case, the ethically correct thing to do would be to advocate for habitat preservation, but still humans that are already in the area need to be protected before an agreement can be reached. Just imagine how a mother would feel if her daughter is killed and eaten by a tiger. Imagine how a child would feel if her dad is mauled by a grizzly bear. If you allow your empathy and compassion to work, you'll understand why the animal may end up being put down, even if you feel for the animal who has lost her life as a consequence of coming in contact with humans. As with many situations dealing with morality, sometimes what is right is the lesser of two evils.

Why do humans care so much about killing livestock humanely, when animals in the wild just kill other animals brutally by nature without caring?

My dog killed one of my brother’s turkeys a few hours ago. The dog wouldn't harm any of our livestock-turned-pets with us around. We forced the dog to act according to our morals. We weren't around when the turkey escaped from the pen. Therefore, our dog acted only on instinct. The dog’s instincts told it to attack the bird. Without us there to enforce our perspective, the dog only followed its own.My family had a moral code for the treatment of the turkey. Different cultures have different moral codes for livestock slaughter. It is because of the common moral code that livestock are killed in a humane manner.Moral killings also help diminish guilt in buying meat. For most people indulging in a juicy filet is a lot easier knowing the cow died instantly instead of being skinned/gutted alive. Humane killing lessens the guilt for the consumer and enables butchers to offer a tasty product that doesn't weigh heavily on consumers’ conscience. Some people don't follow the common moral code. And some animals don't base decisions just off instincts. Their are exceptions to every situation. When my dog killed the turkey, she enjoyed it. The dog only felt (guilty, naughty, bad) when I began shouting at her. It took my moral code to overcome her instinct. There are still outliers. Some people will still eat that juicy filet if they cut it off the live cow themselves. And there are others who wouldn't touch it, even if the filet was grown in a test tube, because those cells had to come from somewhere.

Why do people eat meat when they know animals are tortured inhumanely? Would you kill that animal yourself?

Why do people eat meat when they know animals are tortured inhumanely? Would you kill that animal yourself? Meat is not the only source of protein, and is high in cholesterol.
I was asking people this on Omegle and watching two strangers talk back and forth. When you do this you can not join the conversation. The reactions I got from this question were:
-because its good, i guess you never had bacon, i don't care about animals, they aren't all tortured, we need it to survive, you can still be against animal abuse and eat meat, if you eat vegetables you kill plants that are living, vegan food is expensive, what i do't know won't hurt me, animals don't have feelings....ugh what did I expect from people on that web site anyway!?

Do animal lovers actually love animals more than humans?

tweed bundy: I am sorry I stumbled on this forum and it is shocking the answers i am receiving. Sure there is a place for animals but I do not hold them with the same esteem and affection as a human being. It appears to me that the human race has soured you on the very human being that you are. People can be hurtful and I learned that as a combat soldier in Viet Nam drafted in 68 101 Airborne infantry. I would place more feeling for starving children in the world and those with terminal diseases and quit hating the human race.
