How Did Jane Addams Reflect The Characteristics Of Progressive Era

Name some great people thoughout history, who greatly influenced social and political change without being martyrs?

My list reflects my personal take on history, which is what lists of this sort tend to do:William Wilberforce, British Politician who led the fight for adoption of the Slave Act, which finally passed in Parliament three days before his death.Rosa Parks, whose violation of a municipal ordinance in 1955 led to the beginning of the American Civil Rights movement.Nelson Mandela, who needs no introduction, did something remarkable for the continent of Africa.Kim Dae-Jung, who inspired the effort to topple military rule in South Korea.Konrad Adenauer.  Der Alte. Served for 14 years as the first post-war German chancellor, leading them from post-war desolation into the Economic Miracle.Theodore Roosevelt.  The best one-term American president.  Championed the Progressive agenda that weeded out the rule of corruption in the American political system.Margaret Thatcher.  It ended poorly, but she had tremendous social and political influence in her decade, the 80's.Thomas Paine.  Influenced the two most important revolutionary movements of the 18th Century.Martin Luther.  Led the Protestant Reformation that changed the face of Europe and the world in the 16th Century.Lech Walesa.  Started the union at the Gdansk shipyards in the 80's that began the challenge to Soviet hegemony in the Warsaw Pact.So often, the great leaders have become martyrs, but many more than I have been able to name, have live a full span of years.
