She adheres strictly to a “method” that she learned from adults, instead of learning from her experiences in the classroom and adapting her teaching accordingly. To Scout, this method is dull; to the reader, it exemplifies how well-meaning but rigid thinking can fail. Just as Atticus encourages Scout to place herself in another person’s position before she judges that person, Miss Caroline would do better to try to think like her students and respond to their needs rather than simply trying to impose an external system on their education. Throughout the novel, Atticus’s moral position of sympathy and understanding is contrasted with rigid, impersonal systems such as Miss Caroline’s that fail to account for individual necessities. In this sense, Miss Caroline’s behavior in the schoolhouse foreshadows the courtroom scenes later in the novel, when the system that fails is not an educational technique but the law.

When the book was written the blacks were not literate. Many of them could not read nor write so they did odd jobs and were paid in cash. There was a black man accused of raping a woman in the story. Adidas (misspelled) represented him at trial. It was in the deep South and very racist. Many of the white ppl believed he committed this crime just because he was black. But truth be told, he could not use one of his arms due to an injury and did not rape this woman. This white woman would see him walking down the dirt road and offer him odd jobs then lemonade and started asking him into her house when her daddy wasn't there and seduced him. He didn't want any part of it, in reality she raped him. If he were able to read and write he would have been afforded a better opportunity to seek respectable employment and purchase a home and become a member of the community and be more accepted even though he was black

Early on, if you have a shitty teacher, are sick (and miss a bunch of fundamental instruction), or are too chicken to raise your hand and scream, “I DON’T GET IT!!” you’re screwed. You’re not going to recover.If you don’t know how to multiply and divide whole numbers, you will NEVER understand how to deal with fractions. If you get lost during decimals, Algebra will be impossible. Why? Because they are all essential. Period.Believe it or not, I don’t know my multiplication tables. Should have learned them in the 2nd or 3rd grade. Maybe my teacher was shitty, or maybe they just didn’t check for understanding and I got away with not learning them. From that day, until I received my Doctorate Degree, I’ve struggled mightily with all levels of Math.
