How Did Russia Get So Many Military Bases In Ukraine So Fast

Do you think that Ukraine will be part of Russia soon?

Actually Russia never planned to occupy the whole Ukraine. Putin allegedly proposed Poland to annex West Ukraine just in the way Poland itself was divided by Nazi Germany and USSR. He doesn't consider these territories as a part of Russian World.Take a look at the map from Dima Vorobiev answer, it actually reflects pre-war election stats by pro-Russian vs pro-EU political parties. It has changed a lot since then. Even Russian-speaking Ukrainian citizens strongly oppose the whole Putin ideology of extending Russia to all territories where Russian is spoken.Russia annexed Crimea and created two puppet states on the small piece of territory where pro-Russian political views where prevailing. Even in the Kharkiv region that is neighboring to Donbass pro-Russian views had no majority. Support of Russia significantly declined since then when people start to see what the Russian World actually is.And in terms of military feasibility, there is no realistic scenario for Russia to occupy Ukraine without using nuclear weapon. Ukrainian army changed a lot since 2014, both technically and morally. Ukraine probably can’t win full scale war with Russia but can definitely make human loss of Russians unacceptable. And even in case of successful occupation controlling 40 millions of non-loyal inhabitants is extremely hard.Instead of occupation Russia prefers internal political destabilization, media war against current Ukrainian government with a lot’s of paid trolls, sabotage at military warehouses, murder of significant opinion makers.

What will happen if Russia declares war on Ukraine?

I just heard on the news that Russian forces have taken over a military base in Ukraine and have started digging trenches around the border of the Ukraine island Krim, preparing for war.
The news also said that Ukraine have asked NAVO and the United States for help in case of an attack from Russia.

So what if Russia starts a war against Ukraine, will the NAVO and the US come to the aid of Ukraine and therefore act against Russia and therefore starting an even bigger war and threaten the peace in Europe? Would this result in a bigger war with the US + NAVO against Russia, maybe even a third world war? What on earth is president Putin doing!

Who is stronger usa vs russia military?

Well - there are three answers to this question.

1) The USA is better equipped, trained, motivated, fed and led. Short term war - US wins.
2) The Russians have more nuclear weapons. Nuclear war - no-one wins, but more of US is destroyed.
3) The US public would never stomach a war of attrition - the Russian public have, and would again if it came to it. Long term non-nuclear war - the US would have to break off because the public would be sickened by the carnage and the deaths of its young men.

What are the reasons why Russia doesn't want Ukraine to join NATO? What requirements are needed to join NATO?

1. Should we start with a fact that the majority of Ukrainians don't ant to join the organization:
"According to a poll conducted in February by the Razumkov Center, 53 percent of Ukrainians opposed joining NATO and only 21 percent supported the idea. The rest were either undecided or uninterested. The survey of 2,017 people across Ukraine had a margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points."

And it's what the USA Today tells, the Ukrainian and Russian sources tell it could be up to 70% of the country population.
2. As to us, Russians, we have a suspicion that if NATO put a base there, it could attack our country from there because of a political or an economical reason (and don't tell me that the USA invaded Iraq because of Saddam and not oil). After Serbia and Iraq there is no assurance that NATO is that peacefull. May be it wouldn't decide to attack but it still can treaten to get what it wants.
3. Some European doesn't want Ukraine to join because:
a) they don't want to worsen relationship with Russia
и) the feel that Ukraine isn't ready: political and economical lack of stability (еруку are the 4th palament election in 2 years) and shady actionsof Ushenko's government: there is a suspicion that it's been selling weapons to Darfur.
