Why do the inca, maya, and aztec civilizations do human sacrifices? how are they performing it?

Sacrifice the only thing you could too show the Creator that you would gladly give your life in exchange for blessing's for your relatives. By doing this would show the Creator your utmost respect for him and for his creation for we have no word for love in our language, for action speaks louder than words. Mayan's, Aztec's, Olemec's and Inca's turned this into nothing but a show for their amusement as the way it was told it would be and reason why we left from the south. The ones in the beginning were of free will and their own choice. Too grasp this concept today would be impossible an always hidden from the public's eye for our traditional ways are always scrutinized by the so called civilized world.

How do I correctly prepare Yerba Maté (a traditional tea from South America)?

You can prepare it 'correctly' in a number of different vessels. Regular loose leaf infusions work just fine at around boiling for 3-4 minutes, according to taste. Experimenting with brew times and temps is part of the journey!I suppose maybe you are talking about how yerba mate is traditionally prepared. The actually steeping process is similar, however it would be prepared in a hallowed out mate gourd with a metal straw called a bombilla. It is a very social drink... most people would add the dry mate to the gourd and pour hot water over it, take a few sips and pass it around, replenishing the water as needed until everyone is satisifed :)

What are some symbolic festive foods we eat during Chinese New Year?

There are a few dishes that Chinese people have during Chinese New Year because the food represents "good luck". I only know the Cantonese ones as my family is Cantonese and that's what my mom makes every year.

For example:
Dried Oyster and Black Moss and lettuce:
1) "dried oyster" in Cantonese is "ho-si" which is the same pronunciation as "good things"
2) "black moss" in Cantonese is "fat choy" which is the same pronunciation as "wealthy"
3) lettuce in Cantonese is "sang choy" which is the same pronunciation as "get wealthy"

Fish
1) Fish in Cantonese is "yu" which is similar to the pronunciation of "plentiful" and "abundance". But make sure you're serving the whole fish, from head to tail in one piece, don't chop the fish in half.

Nin-go (Sticky Rice Cake)
1) Nin is the same word as "year"
2) Go is the same sound as "happiness"

Chicken - you need chicken at every important festival/dinner, and again, you have to serve the entire chicken. So make sure the head and tail are on the plate, too. You can cut the chicken into pieces, but better if you rearrange the pieces so it looks like an "unchopped" chicken.

Jai - vegetarian dish made with fermented/red tofu sauce
1) traditionally, Chinese people only eat vegetarian dishes on the first day of New Year's because they believe in "no killing" on that day. That's the day you thank the gods for a good year and you "sacrifice" by not killing or harming animals.

Candy Tray
The tray usually contains an inner set of eight compartments. Each compartment is filled with a special symbolic food:
1) Candy Melon (growth and good health)
2) Coconut (pronounced like "father son", means unity)
3) Kumquat (gold; for prosperity)
4) Longan (many good sons)
5) Lotus Seeds (fertility)
6) Lychee Nut (close family relationships)
7) Peanuts (longevity)
8) Red Melon Seeds (red; for happiness, joy, honesty and sincerity)

What has the USA ever done that is so great?

America's declaration of independence meant that the USA had declared war on it's very first day of existence, against the most powerful military in the world. Great Britain had the world's biggest navy and best army. The USA hadn't had an army a day before this war and in the first battle at Lexington and Concord, American civilians defeated the British Army, which is previously stated as being the best army in world that had conquered more countries than any empire ever had in existence, yet it was defeated by civilians from a country called the USA that hadn't existed a day before this war which the USA won, thus being the first country to gain independence from Great Britain. This American War of Independence influenced many revolutions across North America, South America, Europe, and Asia which drastically reshaped the world as it is today. It doesn't end there since directly afterwards the USA then conquered the Northwest from Great Britain in the Northwest Indian War, then the US Navy dispatched the other strongest military in the world, France in the Quasi War to begin a long record …The USA as a new nation, a rookie at war had defeated the world's strongest militaries in this order:1775—1783, American Revolutionary War (USA defeats Great Britain)1785–1793, Northwest Indian War (USA defeats Great Britain)1798–1800, Quasi War (USA defeats France)1801–1805, First Barbary War (USA defeats Ottoman Empire)1812–1815, War of 1812 (USA stalemates Great Britain and defeats Spain)1815, Second Barbary War, (USA defeats Ottoman Empire)1832, First Sumatran Expedition (USA defeats Aceh Sultanate)1838, Second Sumatran Expedition (USA defeats Aceh Sultanate)1838, Aroostook War (USA defeats UK)1846–1848, Mexican—American War (USA defeats Mexico)

Guinea Pig Question!?

Guinea pigs are great, but they can be expensive. Since they are small animals (they are considered exotics in the veterinary field), they require specialized vets with direct experience treating guinea pigs. The vet care is expensive. If the piggy ever gets sick, expect to walk out of the vet with at least a $200 bill. For routine care, expect to spend about $10 a month on bedding (like aspen), at least $10 a month on hay (they need fresh hay every day), and of course he'll need veggies...you can give him things like carrots from your fridge. For start up costs, expect to spend around $50 for a good cage, $10 for a little house to go inside his cage, $5 for a water bottle (I highly suggest ONLY Critter Canteen-it doesn't leak), and $5 or less for a little food bowl.

Since piggies are prone to getting sick, you need to make sure they NEVER have pine bedding (that increases their chance of getting respiratory problems). They should always use just aspen bedding or CareFresh. This is very important to remember. Also, an adult pig should eat Timothy hay NOT Alfalfa. If you go to a pet store, they people that work there will tell you that you can buy alfalfa, but that is not correct.

Finally, I have a male guinea pig, and he is great. Honestly, though, I don't think gender matters much. However, it is really important to do a little research and find out if there is a guinea pig rescue anywhere near you. I do not recommend buying a pig from a petstore, when there are homeless pigs that need a home.

I hope my comments are helpful. I've had guinea pigs most of my life, and I currently have one that is a little over 3. He is in good health, and he is really well socialized. The only real problem he had was mites, but we did eventually treat them successfully.

Is it safe to eat strawberries from a container that have a few moldy strawberries if the mold hasn't spread to all of them?

That what does not kill you will make you stronger. There is a lot of fallacies spread by our government alarmists driven by our litigious society.Yes a lot of foodstuffs can make you sick if left to spoil, but fruit is not one of them. Most fruits spoil due to bacteria and yeasts. Fruit if left on the plant will in all likelihood ferment and be mistaken for spoilage. Grapes for instance, the white must is actually yeast that will ferment the grapes if given a chance.I often trim the rot from fruit and if not palatable to eat fresh, it is fine if cooked into a compote or jelly for used on ice cream. One of my pet peeves is all the dire warnings about meat. Most bad things in meat are incidentally added while being handled in a packing plant. As a teen I cut chicken in a packing plant and yes the place was disgusting.I hunt and shoot ducks, upland birds, deer, and other critters and I process them myself and that reduces the likelihood of spoilage to nearly non existent. Here is an example of how processing can introduce crap to your meat. I shot a deer in S. Texas last January. It was processed by a commercial processor and sent to me already frozen. What I did not know is the frozen meat was filled with fly eggs from hanging in less than sanitary coolers no doubt.I would not have ever known had my freezer in the garage not lost power. By the time I realized it 60lbs of meat had thawed out and lo and behold, the sealed freezer was full of maggots. These maggots hatched out INSIDE the sealed meat packages. There was no way a fly got into the closed freezers and laid eggs inside sealed packages of meat.I had a real mess to clean up. I will never used a meat processor again if it is entirely possible to avoid it.

What has the USA ever done that is so great?

A perspective of a non american( as well never been to The USA).The present USA was predestined to be great. Several points could be raised, but just a few are going to be presented here. First, quite the opposite people say, Natural Resources. USA is plenty of natural resources no matter mineral, agricultural, etc. Second: Americans had the heritage of England where Industrial Revolution Started. Even England and USA are both located in Northern Hemisphere helped a lot. Crossing the North Atlantic from London to NYC is not so hard as coming from Spain to Argentina, or coming from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro, for example. At the beggining, of colonizing, the present USA was not so promissing. Gold and Silver were not so visible( just much more late there were rush golds to California and Alaska, for example), not even coal and oil. Partially because such fuels were not widely still used. That part of North America had a sparce population, different from Aztecs at Mexico and Incas at Peru. So, there´s a tale, that The King of England ordered their "managers" to exploit that regions as the Spanish were doing with other parts of America. Try to get all wealth the region has no matter the pain to local people. But as I mentioned, gold and silver were not clearly available, a sparce population did not fit to be enslaved. Bringing Black Slaves for Africa, showed a little cost/benefit( just later Black slavery was introduced in the south of USA). So, British Crown, had to change its mind an start thinking. Let the guys there alone and get just what they could provide. So, such people somehow let alone, as well having the protestant influence to get rid of illiteracy( first for reading The Bible), started colonizing the country, learned to get the resources and in a catalysis process that feeds itself, built a people educated and laborius. The result just could be so good. Because soon there were advantages as:Minerals for fuel as coal( for example we don´t have such vital fuel to start an industrialization at Brazil).Oil( again, our oil in Brazil, the gross is in deep waters, no technology available for centuries)Area for Agriculture.Much more:Soon they had access to two oceans, a vast integrared territory centuries before EU, for example. And this vast territory, with 2 oceans to access, having a population virtually speaking just one Language and with one currency. To sum it up: How could such “Land of Promise” not being succesfull.
