Should foreign troops live in Afghanistan for a long time, or should they leave Afghanistan?

I'm OK staying, investing more in reconstruction and education, and partnering with their government to improve both Security and living conditions. If we are welcome. It's up to them. I explicitly would like to hear the words from their head of state perhaps once per year to dispell the notion of an involuntary occupation.I'm OK departing immediately. Paying out everyone we owe anything to. Tieing up loose ends. Strike the flag and call it a win. That is, if the government in place thinks it has its affairs in order. I explicitly would like to hear the words from their head of state. “We can handle our own affairs. Our nation is stable. No more terrorism will come from within our borders ever again or you have a standing invitation to return. Please go home.”I respect their right to self determination. Now they just need to self-determine.

How do I get my husband who is in the army and in afghanistan to send me money to help pay for our apartment?

This isn't right.
Firstly: My husband has been deployed five times since we have been married and even in the thick of war zones Soldiers can periodically (fairly frequently in fact) access phones & the internet. It's bizarre that he didn't give you access to his bank account or arrange for his bank to deliver some of his salary into your account for two reasons: Firstly - you are married! Generally speaking Soldiers get their affairs in order before they leave for a deployment, and secondly: It is within the Army code of conduct that a soldier financially supports his family. His CO would take an extremely dim view of him leaving you in this predicament.
There is little to spend money on in Afghanistan. I think the maximum amount that my husband spent a month when he was last deployed (Iraq) was £80! so his salary will be stacking up.
Why can't your husband tell his bank (presumably in the U.S?) to simply transfer money into your account? He could write to them with that instruction.
It is unforgivable of him to effectively abandon his wife in this way and there must be a bigger reason behind it. In the meantime, if a stiff letter to him, telling him that you are in dire straits and that you need him to instruct his bank to transfer money to your account, doesn't work - go to your families Officer or Chaplian, who will ensure that he is forced to acknowledge his responsibilities.

What is the design on top of the Marine cover?

In the U.S. Marine Corps, quatrefoil refers to a four-pointed decoration on the top of a warrant or commissioned Marine officer's dress and service caps (see peaked caps, also known in the Marines as "barracks covers"). According to tradition, the design was first used with Marine officers on sailing ships so that Marine sharpshooters in the rigging did not shoot their own officers on the deck during close-quarters gun battles (as when crews of opposing ships attempted to board each other's ship).

An official part of U.S. Marine Corps officer uniforms since 1859, the quatrefoil was said to initially have been crossed pieces of rope sewed into officers' caps before becoming officially mandated as a uniform item

Is the War in Afghanistan Unwinnable?

Yes, I know that Bush started this war, and the object was to get Bin Laden. But he let Bin Laden escape and now, nine years later, the US is fighting a war against the insurgents who become stronger, smarter and more effective every year. Still we send US troops to get their legs or arms blown off, or heads shook up so bad they come back brain damaged. And then there is the dead. The thousands of dead Afghans who are just trying to get by and the 1000 dead US soldiers who never wanted to leave their home and will never return.

Is this stupid war unwinnable? How can Obama extricate the US from this war without making it look like the US is a big fat failure?

P.S. no "nuke them to hell" comments. That is genocide and makes you look like a stupid murdering idiot.

How long is the us military deployed in Afghanistan?

Bottom line up front, 6–12 months.More in depth: That depends on the branch of the military and type of unit. Also, possibly, when they deployed to Afghanistan.Army units currently serve 9 month tours with Division HQ elements and higher doing 12 month tours. However, earlier in the war, 12 month tours were the norm and for a couple years during the surge this rose to 15 month tours.Marine deployments typically last 6 months but lengths can vary and have been known to go all the way out to 12 months.Navy and Air Force tours also usually last 6 months. But, again, circumstances can vary on a case by case basis for different types of units with different mission sets.

Who are the Baloch people of Afghanistan and elsewhere?

Baloch are the people in southern asia and the land "Balochistan" is occupied by 3 countries Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. Baloch people are fighting against forces to get independence. The land Balochistan is occupied because the land is valuable, it is full of natural resourses i.e Gas, Gold, Marble, Zinc, Uranium, Petrol, Coal, Copper and it has a great coastline, it would be 5th largest port in the world if its developed.

The Baluch people mainly speak Baluchi, which is a branch of the Iranian languages, and more specifically of the North-western Iranian languages, that is highly influenced by that of Mesopotamia and shares similarities with Kurdish and other languages of the region. It also contains archaic features reminiscent of Old Persian and Avestan. They inhabit mountainous terrains and deserts, and maintain a very distinct cultural identity. The Baloch-speaking population worldwide is estimated to be in the range of 10 to 15 million.[citation needed] However, the exact number of Baloch and those who are or claim to be of Baloch ancestry is difficult to determine.

Historical evidence suggests that Baluch people were the ancient inhabitants of the Maka satrapy in Achaemenid empire. Baluch inhabiting the coastal areas in the region of Makran (Chabahar, Gwadar), Gulf (Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain) and Arabian Sea (Karachi and other parts of Sindh) and tribes including the Jatoi, Rind, Bizenjo, Brahvi and Gabol are highly skilled in designing boats, fishing and other skills required to survive in their environment. Herodotus also mentions that Darius had made use of the ocean in this region of Sindh. The Slemani Baluch who inhabit the region of Balochistan including Makran—for example, tribes including the Brahvi, Marri, Bugti, Buzdar, Mazari, Mengal, Nutkani, Jiskani, Muhammad Hassani, Nousherwani, Rind, Bizenjo, Zehri, Dehwar, Changwani and others—carry different skills to survive in their mostly mountainous environment and have a history of aggressive behavior towards invasions. These tribes are not confined to one specific location as they also contain sub-tribes and can be found all over the region.

The origins of the word "Baluch" or "Baloch" are shrouded in controversy. According to German archaeologist and Iranologist Ernst Herzfeld, it is derived from the Median word brza-vaciya, which means "loud cry", while others claim the word derives from ancient Iranian languages.

Did the USSR really drop toys filled with explosives on Afghanistan?

Unlikely. The Soviets did certainly use the PFM-1 bombletsIt was a direct copy of an American device used in Vietnam, the BLU-43B:It was designed to look like a non-descript piece of hardware (such as a part which might’ve fallen off a truck or tank tread,). The “wing” allowed it to flutter to the ground after being thrown out of helicopters. To a truck driver or bicyclist on the Ho Chi Minh Trail, it would seem barely worth his attention until he drove over it.Some newspaper articles in the 80s described them as “toy-like” A quote from the NY Times in 1985: “This type of bomb, consisting of two wings, one flexible and the other rigid, in the shape and colors of a bird, explodes when the flexible wing is touched.” They were “colors of a bird” because they were intended for the European theater, where green and brown are effective camouflage. That seems to have been the seed of this story. When I served in Afghanistan, it was common to see local kids rushing TOWARDS a rocket or mortar crater, to gather up shards of metal. Kids there also scoured our burn pits and trash dumps for, well, anything at all. I’ve seen them collect bottles, razor wire, empty cardboard boxes, styrofoam… there is simply no need to make something resemble a toy to get an Afghan kid to pick it up. So it’s easy to imagine children seeing these and being curious. That does not necessarily mean they were deliberately made to resemble toys: no one accused the American original of that. Indiscriminately-spread, yes, and unable to be made “safe”…but not toy-like).Of course the Soviets were far from being the good guys in white hats … I would not put it above them (or at least SOMEONE in the KGB or Army) to have contemplated such a thing. The Russians have very consistently denied the allegation: it would’ve been counter-productive on many levels. But as “Charlie Wilson’s War” showed, there were were certainly influential people in the West who had no qualms about taking a singular detail, and use it’s most extreme interpretation to support their perspective and push for certain results. The lack of clear evidence suggests that it is more likely to be a very convenient Cold War exaggeration.
