How Do Athiests Have Morals

How can an Atheist have morals?

How can you not believe in God and have morals? Without God i'd probaly be out killing people, raping people, molesting kids and hurting my own kids, robbing banks, stealing, cursing out everyone I see in site, cheating on my wife, beating my wife, hurting animals, and probaly hurting myself. But I believe in God so I don't do these things, because I know if I did I'd spend eternity in Hell. Without fear you can't be a good person.

How can atheists have morals?

is a question i get all the time. I usually respond how can theists have morals?... and they say because they have "god" to tell them whats good and whats wrong. How do you know your god isn't an evil god?

Why do atheists have no morals?

Your mom beat them out of me with that leather whip thing.
I've been a very naughty boy, apparently.

Do atheists have forgiveness as part of their morals?

“Every family, gang, tribe, nation, has rules of behaviour; all groups develop rules.
It starts in the home; you wouldn't spit on your mother's bed would you?
Were you told specifically not to or did you just work it out?
Surely it's not mentioned in bibel, huh?”

"Morals can't come from religion.
If you're religious you have no basis for claiming anything is moral, all you have is that some celestial father figure will punish you if you don't do what he says.”

Art: “There are 4 caves. Each has one caveman his mate, and a kid.
If you leave your cave to hunt, one of the other cave men may harm your family.
Two neighboring cavemen start grunting at each other and form a bond.
They realize that if one of them guards both families, the other can hunt for both.
Their families get to know each other, more bonds are formed.
A third caveman sees they have a good deal going on.
There are mammoths around, but one caveman can't take one down; two can.
So, while one watches all three families, the other two kill a mammoth.
Now they have plenty of food, so they are healthier than non-affiliated cavemen.

By trusting each other, and not killing or stealing from one another, they have an evolutionary advantage over others.
People had to be moral before religion.
You can't have a religion without a group, and you can't have a group without some form of civilized interaction.
Therefore, you don't need religion to have morals.

The end.”

Where do atheists get their morality?

This again? At the risk of being rude, did you take the time to read the hundreds if not thousands of time this question has been asked or are you just attempting to stir up Atheists?I will assume the former and give you a little quiz?1) who has stronger morals, the person who acts in a certain way out of fear of punishment or the person who acts the same way because they choose to?2) who has stronger morals, the person who believes his actions are being monitored by a god or the person who believes he alone is responsible for his actions?See simple quiz with simple answers.  I do not make moral decisions based on what some invisible being has instructed.  I do not believe in eternal retribution for my actions. Man made laws cannot establish morals. They can punish behaviors that are deemed unacceptable by the community but this doesn't change a person's morals.  There are too many examples of religious people acting with bad morals to list here but just pick up today's paper and see what I mean.  It is way too easy to act immorally when you believe that all you have to do is ask for your god's forgiveness and it will be okay.Atheist own their actions because we don't believe that there is any other choice.  We have no belief in a god that will provide us with an easy out.  Now I am not saying that all Atheist have the same moral code, some don't have any moral code at all. Atheist, like Theist, come in all flavors. The difference is we accept full responsibility for our moral actions.Next time you have a question about Atheists please check to see how many others have already asked the question and how many answers have been given. If you find that you still need further answers please state this right off.

Do Christians believe that atheists have no morals?

Many alcoholics believe that non-drinkers live boring lives without confidence or humor. Many psychedelic users believe that they have cornered the market on enlightenment and awareness, that the rest of us are squares who are missing out. Gamblers often believe that other people are cowardly, soft, and unwilling to wrestle with fate.Every vice develops a large body of justifications/excuses/lies to hold on to its current users and pull in new users. A non-drinker who is confident and funny is an obvious threat to the flattering lie, so they are to be denied and vilified (often at once). And once you’ve tricked yourself into thinking that the exclusive club grants confidence or enlightenment or whatever you can become complacent, like a man who stops running after crossing the finish line. And that’s why many alcoholics are oblivious to the fact that they are unfunny and pitiful embarrassments; many psychedelic users are among the least enlightened, most smug and empty-headed people on the planet. In this case, the cult ‘gives’ you your morality, allowing you to cast doubts on the morality of outsiders just because they’re not in the club. And faith allows for the same complacency with moral accomplishment, in which Christians can treat the poor, gays and non-Christians with apathy and hatred without guilt. The alarms of shame and self-awareness are suppressed by the vice, as alcohol convinces the belligerent alcoholic that he is funny and interesting. That’s why many Christians can so comfortably vote to take away services to the poor, support war, support torture, and support capital punishment … and then call atheists immoral. They’ve crossed the finish line of believing in Jesus and stopped trying, when actual morality has no finish line.
