How Do Change Mac Address

Is a MAC address changeable?

As the others have somewhat said, a NIC(Network Interface Card/Controller) has its MAC address supplied by the manufacturer of the chip as a Unique ID. This address is logged while you are connected to a network, and depending on your network's post connection logging, may be logged after you have disconnected from the network along with the sites you visited while attached to that network. It is in theory possible to track a MAC address to a specific person, HOWEVER it would only go to the last person who registered the device, or the first person to buy the device. For this reason MAC addresses are not widely used for tracking down a specific person and are only normally used post fact to confirm the connection between a cirtain person and their network activity. So is it possible to change your MAC Address, in theory, No. In practice what we can do is called ‘spoofing', this is done when a user defines a MAC address for a NIC and can be done a few different ways. The thing about ‘spoofing’, is that it is not actually changing the MAC address. So to answer your question, NO, you can not “change” your MAC Address, however you can fake it.

Is changing my MAC address safe?

The MAC address is a local-only address. It is not transmitted outside of the local network segment and it cannot be seen outside of the local network segment. This means, if you are on Wi-Fi, for example, that the MAC address is not sent outside of the Wi-Fi network. And nobody, no matter how they are connected, that is not on that Wi-Fi network can see your MAC address. There are perhaps two reasons for changing a MAC address. ISPs used to require that you connected to their modem with a single, known MAC address, This was designed to prevent the connection of any sort of router that would allow multiple devices to be connected to your Internet connection. Router manufacturers made it possible to set any MAC address in the router, defeating this “security” and revenue measure by ISPs.The other reason is on Wi-Fi networks it is possible to blacklist MAC addresses and whitelist them as well. If you are trying to connect to a network where the owner wants to keep you out, they may try doing this by blacklisting your MAC address or by whitelisting their devices exclusively. We will skip over the part about it being illegal to break into other people’s networks and how they have the right to keep you out. If you want in, you are going to have to use a MAC address that is whitelisted and hope both devices aren’t trying to be used at the same time.Basically, there is no other reason for changing a MAC address and doing so on a portable device (like a notebook computer) can result in a MAC address collision in the future. This will take you a long time to figure out - potentially a very long time. There would be nothing worse than being in a hotel, trying desperately to connect to their network so you can get some critical work done and being continually blocked because of a duplicate MAC address. No, it will not tell you what the problem is - it will just route all your packets somewhere else to be discarded. What are the chances of this happening? I have no idea, not very good. But it is one of those things that a 0.001% chance that prevents you from doing something critical is way, way too high.

How do I change the MAC address on my LG BD640?

Can the MAC address of my laptop change if I change the WiFi card?

Yes, but it is not a question of can it change, but more an absolute fact that it will change. Each Network Interface Card (NIC), no matter if it is Ethernet, wireless, or Bluetooth, will have a unique MAC address that separates it from every other network card in the world. If you change out your wireless NIC, you will then as a result, be changing the wireless MAC address of your laptop.Your Ethernet MAC address will remain unchanged as it is usually on a separate card within your machine.

Changing your Mac Address, what is illegal and what is not?

Basically I play this online game called Silkroad. They offer these "Free" surveys basically you do a survey, or sign up for a promotion type thing, you get in-game coins. Though after I was done doing it with my main account I wanted to use my "alt" account basically another account, so I changed my Mac address to do so.

I know changing your mac address is only illegal for the purpose of doing it. I mean I am simply just doing it so the promotions re pop up, its not like I am hacking into bank accounts or something lol.

With programs like TMAC and being able to log into my ISP and changing it there, it seems like I could be able to.

So I am not doing nothing...illegal am I? I hear its what you do that makes it illegal, Im just doing it for some online MMO lol. Not stealing internet or anything like that.

How to change MAC address of a Bluetooth Dongle?

Hiya! I have purchased 3 Bluetooth dongles in the past with no problems. They are high end dongles that each have their own unique MAC address, and are the same brand and model.

Last month I decided to buy a bunch of dongles from eBay. I bought 20 to be exact. They were a dollar a piece and free shipping from Hong Kong. Yea, I knew to at least expect garbage for that price, but it wasn't a lot of money so I figure I'd take the gamble. They are generic dime sized dongles. I wasn't too worried if they would of be horrible quality due to their price. Just ONE of my high end dongles costs MORE than 20 of these cheap ones combined.

However, I don't like putting all of my eggs in one basket, so I decided to buy a total of 20 dongles between 3 sellers just in case one seller had bad dongles, especially since they come from Hong Kong and takes 3 weeks for delivery.

I tested each and every one of them on my 1st laptop with my phone. Out of 20, only 1 ended up being bad. Not bad at all. They work wonderfully. Wireless range is about half to 3/4 of the high end dongles so that's not too bad. Well I have lots of PCs and laptops in my house. I decided to install the dongles all at once after testing each one, and something weird was happening. My blackberry was getting confused as to what device to connect to. The device names were all mixed up, I'd have connection failures, etc.

I decided to take a look at the MAC addresses of each device and noticed that they are all the same! Well actually, each sellers dongle had its own MAC address. Each seller's dongle were a little different from eachother. In other words, I have a total of 3 different mac addresses because each seller had their own generic brand/model of dongle. I am glad I decided to split my purchases between different sellers or else I would have ended up with 20 dongles with the exact same MAC address, which causes all sorts of crazy problems due to conflicts. The dongles work great on their own, but when trying to use 2 of the dongles from the same seller together, it doesn't work due to the same MAC address.

Is there any way to change a MAC address on these Bluetooth dongles/adapters?
