Its much worth it.

I lost my iPod about 6 months ago and still can't find it. I retraced all my steps, and I don't have an Apple ID, so iCloud and iTunes can't help me find it. I think it's dead. How can I find my lost iPod?

Unfortunately your recourse is the same as finding anything else that doesn't have lojack of any kind in it. If you had just misplaced it somewhere, it would have probably turned up by now. You can report it lost or stolen to Apple which will enable them to notify you if it ever turns up, but the odds are slim. Sadly, given that it's been 6 months, you're probably out of luck. Might be time to look into getting a new one.

If I restore a stolen iPod, can it be tracked or traced down?

If you restore any electronic device to its factory settings, ID's, credit card information, etc. is all wiped clean from the memory banks. However, each device also has its own serial number and Wi-FI address, it can be tracked using the serial number or wi-fi address as long as it is connected to the internet at the time. Otherwise you can PING its location which means it will try to guess its last known location when it was connected to the internet. If the original owner of the iPod either had GPS services or Find My Ipod. They can still track it to an extent. Since you restored it, they will only be able to track it to it's last known location unless they have the serial number (Which most people don't). If he is worried about someone seeing HIS information, then he doesn't have to worry because only Apple or Industry Distributed companies can see that when he buys apps or music and that's to verify it's his account. The original owner can't see his Apple ID, Cards, etc.
