How Do I Avoid Cutting Myself While Shaving My Legs

So.. I cut my ankle the other day while shaving my legs.. Help!?

I would consider myself a pro at shaving legs seeing as I've been doing it for years. But this past Saturday when I shaved them I cut my ankle badly. I had a big gash in my ankle and bled for a long time. I put some neosporin and a band aid on it and controlled the bleeding and tried to keep it sealed and stuff to heal.

Well now it has a scab and it itches like crazy. With all my other scabs I've ever had, and I've had a lot since I was a kid because I fall a lot, they have NEVER itched! I'm constantly scratching my ankle because it bothers me so much. No matter what I put on it I end up itching it and it becomes this big problem.

So do you think I could have an infection or something of the sort? Do any of you itch on your legs after you cut yourself? Anything would be greatly appreciated. I just need to know why my ankle is itching so badly.

Cut myself shaving will it scar?

Nope. Those aren't deep enough to cause serious damage. They heal pretty fast so you won't scar. It it is really deep like a hole then try prevent as much sun exposure as you can. The uneven exposure of old skin to new skin causes scarring. (ex: peeling off a bumber sticker from a car. the paint underneath is a different color than the rest.)

I accidently cut myself when shaving my legs?

When your skin is cut, it is in trauma. White blood cells immediately rush to the area where the trauma has occurred to encourage and speed healing...this is what causes the 'bump' you described.
This is a normal reaction to a shaving cut. Just continue applying Neosporin or another topical antibiotic gel, and keep fresh band-aids on the site of the cut.
If you want to avoid scarring after the cut has healed, wait until the wound has become a 'pinkish' color and the skin is totally closed. Then gently massage the site of the cut as often as you can each day for several (5-7) days. This encourages the re-growth of collagen in the skin, thereby reducing or eliminating scarring altogether!
In the future, just try to slow down when you are shaving and remember that you don't have to press hard, as long as you are using a razor that isn't ridiculously dull, you should be in good shape. And be extra careful around the knees! This is most women's problem area.
Good Luck!

How to prevent knicking myself while shaving,?

You're knicking and getting razor burn because the razor isn't sharp causing you to press down. Get a better quality razor. Yes, I know they are expensive, we all know that. But, unless you start waxing or epilating it's something you have to buy. I like Old Spice High Endurance 3 or 4 blade razors, they're cheap and sharp because they are meant for beards. Also, make sure it's just you using the razor. They can dull down quick with different people using it. Store it away from the shower, in a drawer with the cap back on or on a cloth. This way it will dry and not rust plus when the toilet is flushed air-borne fecal matter won't land on it.

I use a thin coating of "Beard Buster" shaving cream too. A little goes a long way and it's pretty cheap. (http://www.barbasol.com/product/sensitiv...

I have to stop cutting my legs when I shave, but how!?

when you say "up and down" do you mean you will shave both from the ankle up to the knee and from the knee down to the ankle? Because if so that could be your problem, never shave from the knee down, shave from the ankle up! Go against the hair :)

You could also try using baby oil instead of shaving cream, its very strange i know, but it leaves your legs very smooth and provides a good layer inbetween the razor and your skin to protect you. Another thing you could try is waxing instead of shaving, it hurts yes, but it lasts longer and wont leave you with cuts.

hope you figure something out! :)

I cut my knee shaving my legs and its bleeding very steady. The cut shaved a good section of my skin off.?

DO NOT put peroxide or alcohol or anything like that on it. Good rule of thumb I heard from my doctor: NEVER put on a would what you wouldn't put in your eyes. Just use warm, salted water to clean it off, then put pressure on it with a towel for a few minutes. Make sure the skin around it is dry before putting a bandage on it. And until it stops bleeding, keep your leg elevated, don't walk on it.

Shaving legs? Tips? Any one?

Hello,
I once used neturagena razors and they made my legs burn really bad. The best ones I have found and have never cut myself once and have always had a smooth shave (somtimes even without shaving cream) are the Venus razors.
They are a bit pricey, but well worth it.
They last a long time and they really give a close smooth shave each and every time.
I suggest you use shaving cream. Any kind works. A more inexpensive kind is mens shaving cream. Womens tend to be more pricey with the fancy smells/colors.
Ive also noticed that keeping your legs frequently moiste by always putting lotion/cremes on them after you shave. The next time you shave, your legs will still have moisture and will make the shaving process much more smoother and pleasant.
Rubbing baby oil on your legs will also give you a very smooth shave, but will shorten the life span of your razor by making it very blunt.
Remember not to start shaving as soon as you jump into the shower..let your body intake some steam and get soft before you start lathering the shaving cream on.
Shave in slow short strokes from bottom to top.
Rinse, and go over your legs once more but using different directions of strokes.
Good Luck and Happy shaving :)

Yes. Practice very carefully going strictly vertical. Never let it go horizontal. I will blow up my mouth with air in my mouth to stretch the skin. in the more difficult spots or try to angle to keep the skin as stretched as possible. Also, invest in a better razor. Im not sure if you use this brand, but Gillette is very low quality, so stay away from their products.

Cut leg with razor on accident while shaving?

That happens. Umm yah the bleeding doesnt stop. You could put polysporin on it.

If you don't have a styptic pencil on hand, rub a tiny dab of your normal antiperspirant on the cut. After you apply it, a little bead of blood may well up, but once you wipe it away the antiperspirant will stop all further bleeding.

Urine contains uric acid, which is a natural healing substance. For centuries, an old-fashioned remedy to stop blood loss due to an injury was to introduce human urine to the injured area. Uric acid coagulates blood.

Apply a small amount of Vaseline to a shaving cut and it will stop the bleeding

If you take an ice cube and rub it over the surrounding area, it will stop the bleeding almost immediately. The coolness of the ice will cause your capillaries to constrict cutting off the blood supply to the cut. It'll also wake you up in the morning!

Dry coffee grinds coagulate blood very quickly. This is the method used by migrant workers when picking the fruit. It was a cheap way of stopping bloody cuts, but with the price of coffee now a day, I don't see them using this method often.

Put a few drops of nasal spray on a tissue and dab it on the cut. The nasal spray constricts the blood vessel and stops the bleeding. It works like a charm.

I cut my leg while shaving and it's REALLY bad?

I'm guessing you have a 1-2 blade razor. Get a 5 blade razor, I got venus embrace and even when I apply pressure to it, I don't get cut

I remember when I was 12 I had these cheap pink razors ith 1 blade, and I had a cut of... about 2 inches long. It wasn't too deep either so I'm guessing we had pretty much the same cut LOL

Do NOT use alcool, for years I thought alcohol was good for that and the burning sensation killed all the bacterias, but actually it just burns the skin tissue

First, clean it with clear water and a bit of soap. Do it very gently. Use any gentle antiseptic to disinfect it. Chlorhexidine is good.

Then, put bandages on the still bleeding parts. If the blood has dried, just leave it like that. Don't pick on it. I know it's hard to resist, but just leave it naturally fall off or else it will bleed again.

It'll end up disappearing, don't worry. Even after it has closen off, you'll still be able to see it. Like that very thin looking skin. I had that for a good 7 months but finally it became completely normal. I can't even remember where it was

edit: scratch that, actually I just looked and I can only see it if I look as close as 10cm. Further than that, it looks healed. So you'll be fine

Stitches will be very appearant. I don't think razors make that deep cuts so you won't need them.
