How Do I Burn Out A Headlight On Purpose

Why does one headlight burn out before the other one if they are the same kind and put in at the same time?

obviously for the same reason bulbs in your house dont blow all at once, even though they are in the same light fixture. No two things are exactly alike. That light bulb has a wire inside it that electricity runs throug and heats up white hot. it's burning the wire, and the vacuum of the bulb prevents much of the combustion from taking place all at once. each bulb has it's own slight manufacturing differences, different vacuums, different level of shock recieved while driving, etc. It's not uncommon to have one bulb last twice as long as the other, and it's also not uncommon to have both burn out within 2 hours. Luck of the draw.

what pisses me off though is all the people I Mistake for a motorcycle and almost have head ons with at night, because their left headlight has been burned out ...since 1953!

check all your bulbs once a week, for christ's sake

Right headlight keeps burning out?

if you are touching the glass on a halogen sealed beam it will blow out very fast. if there is any moisture in that assembly, it will also blow very fast. you might try is to coat the o-ring on the bulb with vasaline to make it as close to air tight as you can.

Will moisture in headlight burn out hid bulb?

First hows the reflective part of headlight assembly, the chromed part. if not reflecting or peeled or lens cloudy light won't shine bright, You may want to consider replacing headlight assemblies especially with one leaking. They make brighter bulbs any parts store or big box store carry them, halogen blue or check wattage of your bulbs and get higher watt bulbs. HID kits would cost more than new units. Moisture won't blow bulb unless unit fills to bulb level with water. But moisture will ruin reflective backing.

My headlight bulb in my 94 Taurus keeps burning out, what should I do?

Buy replacement plastic part from FORD DEALER or scan junk yards for broken and junked TAURUS cars. Many bulbs break because the headlight has a small crack or hole that allows WATER to get in the light fixture. Other than that, a bad GROUND wire will cause this problem, too. POWER WASH engine with GUNK ORANGE< and focus on your laternator, battery cables, and starter. KEEP ENGINE BAY CLEAN! Check GROUND to alternatgor and clean with BATTERY POST CLEANER. Road salt causes SHORTS that can be invisibel to the eye. Check GROUND near head light as well. Go to AUTOZONE for a CHARGING SYSTEM test. If your VOLTAGE REGULATOR is going bad, it can undercharge or over charge, and blown BULBS are the firwst sign of charging issues. GOOD LUCK!!

Headlight wiring harness keeps burning out?

I have a 2006 subaru impreza. About a year ago, the headlight burnt out. I went to replace it and realized that it wasn't the headlight. It was the wiring harness/socket that had burnt up. So, I replaced it with a new harness. I used good waterproof connectors and all was well. This weekend, the light burnt out again. Once again, the bulb was fine. The harness was burnt up.

Why is it doing this? Is there an easy way to fix it? I'm getting worried because I'm running our of slack wire to keep doing this.

My driver-side headlight bulb burns out much faster than my other bulbs. Why is that?

All good answers here. My first thought was the same as Paul Montgomery’s: you have a leak in the housing somewhere …a common place is where the lens is glued to the housing …and moisture is getting in.I’m also a fan of the “touching the bulb” responses because the skin oils can cause issues with the bulb glass. Skin oil will supposedly create a hot spot on the glass of the of the bulb which will create a stress point and eventual cracking.Barring the “oil and water” issues there may be some kind of electrical issue and that would require some definite trouble shooting to get down to the cause; without troubleshooting all anyone can do is guess. And with this subject there are already some good answers.Does your car have an HID headlight system? The thought here is these special bulbs require a ballast (like a florescent light fixture) in order to function correctly. I’ve never owned a vehicle with this lighting system but apparently it is a bit more sophisticated than a regular incandescent system. I suspect the ballast plays a very important role in how the bulb functions and how long it lasts. What about LED bulbs? While these type bulbs (in any installation) use very little electricity it’s because they require so little electricity that issues can arise.

Car wash with a busted headlight - will it burn out the light?

as long as the light bulb is not cracked you wont hurt it of you wash it with then off ,only thing is you might get water in to the plug which will cause corrosion in the plug and as far as getting water in to the intake it wont happen unless u put the wond in to the intake tube and turn it on and spray in to the in take tube

Why do the headlight bulbs in my Honda Element keep burning out?

There are several reasons that headlight bulbs will fail prematurely. Usually the cause is improper installation, or moisture in the headlight assembly.

When you replace the light bulbs, you have to be very careful not to touch the glass surface of the bulb with your hands (or any bare skin) Oils from your hands or skin (which occur naturally) will stick to the bulb, and create a "hot spot" when the bulb is on, causing the bulb to fail early.

Any moisture in the headlight assembly will do the same. If there is moisture or water getting into the headlights, you will need to replace the headlight assemblies, seeing as they are almost impossible to reseal

When replacing the bulbs, it is a very good idea to wear gloves to avoid skin contact.
